1) I like simultaneous action selection as opposed to having to wait for each other player in sequence to decide if they should spend a card. Though, now that I write this, planning everything in one go is likely more inducing of analysis paralysis and thus time-consuming than having players doing it in turn order. So maybe the *time* argument is bad. Regardless, I like simultaneous action selection because of...

2) ...the mind games of trying to predict what or how far the other players are moving phase markers so that I can plan what I should move. This adds strategy to an otherwise quite chaotic game.

But as long as you're having fun with the game I'm happy and you should house rule any way works best for you. Thanks for the comment! It made me at least stop and consider if the Stop cards are still carrying their weight.
FurbyFubar  [author] Sep 10, 2021 @ 8:59am
@KaoruHare The Stop cards are only needed if you are worried about your opponents changing how many cards they'd spend to move phases when they see how many cards the other players are spending. Currently doing so would be cheating.

Of course, if you house rule to change it there are ways to remove the Stop cards while still having the rules be robust (though different). Either by spending one card at a time (or pass) until everyone around the table have passed (or maybe everyone have passed in a row). Or by giving the last player (as decided by the first player marker) anadvantage by having each player in order spend all the cards they want *after* seeing what the players before them have moved.

While I'm always a fan of getting rid of components, since it makes games cheaper to print, ie easier to get published, the Stop cards are likely to stay for now, for two reasons.

I absolutely love this game! My boyfriend and I play it pretty often because it's one of his favorites. I think the only thing we don't really touch is the stop cards. We pretty much just wild out with the phase order movement. Otherwise, this game is great and I love introducing new people to it.

Just fonud this game recently. Great balance and replayability. Very fun.

More minor fixes since the last update had accidentally reverted some cards to an older version. Thanks for the award-logos to those who have given them, much appreciated! Also thanks to everyone who's added Mad Science to your collections and/or favorites!

Fixed bug where some cards got a black black while seen in a player's hand.

Small update tweaking the two scheme cards that attack an opponent's research cards, making them less likely to completely destroy a player's labs.
FurbyFubar  [author] Apr 11, 2020 @ 12:44pm
Updated the game with Hench-Droids. Additional setup rule: Each player starts with a Hench-Droids card in play!

Jimbo and Blad Skydancer: Oh, so sorry! Ran out of space at Dropbox and the rules were purged in an attempt to being able to keep using it for another game project. Didn't think that they were linked from here as well. The rules can now be found at fubargames DOT se SLASH madsciencerules.pdf

I also took the time to add in some comments in yellow about what's different when playing on Tabletop Simulator as opposed to playing the game with my real life prototype.
Blade Skydancer Aug 4, 2017 @ 8:25pm
The rules need to be reuploaded.
Jimbo_85 Jul 25, 2017 @ 6:06pm

amrojjeh: Thanks for the heads up, must have messed up in the latest update and somehow cleared the rules field. Link to pdf rules now in the rules-section and in the notepad. Sorry about that.
Guardit Nov 6, 2015 @ 7:13pm

FurbyFubar  [author] Sep 1, 2015 @ 1:31pm
Working on a big update. New card frame and going to test some changed rules. Of the base set I've just rendered a little over half the cards. Can't say exactly when I can start testing again, but should be in a few days. What I can say is that after these changes I will need a lot of testing...

Eddy._. Aug 26, 2015 @ 5:31pm
I just played my first round and I must say this game is good and has big chances.
FurbyFubar  [author] Aug 25, 2015 @ 5:45pm
The poker table would give much less space for people to play their cards compared to the table I'm currently using.
Diceyed [Liam] Aug 25, 2015 @ 2:22pm
why not just use the poker table instead?
FurbyFubar  [author] Aug 25, 2015 @ 4:00am
Yeah, looks like either custom boards have gotten better since I first tried them or I didn't get their full functionality when I first tried them out. Also, without a custom table the board gets edges, meaning the die won't keep rolling off. Will have to re-size a bunch of things to make this fit though since the large rectangle table is not the same size as the custom rectangle...
Diceyed [Liam] Aug 24, 2015 @ 11:25am
Sorry, no real luck. but i got some sujections that might help.

1. remove all the rules and Put it on the tablet item, you can actually have it so the players can (on loading the game) agree to go to the website. but it will reduce the need for the rule cards.

2. instead of loading a custom table, just croped the game board, and upload it as a custom board. this will use up a LOT less space and reduce the errors.

Other then those, my friend still got crashed out due to the 88 cards for some reason.
FurbyFubar  [author] Aug 24, 2015 @ 7:06am
Thock and William.G: I just updated the workshop file, hopefully to fix both your problems.

The rules are now a bit less high resolution meaning they will probably load, but the text is harder to read. Since this is annoying I've also put them on dropbox at {tinyurl DOT com SLASH madsciencerules} and added the link to the notepad.

Some of the game cards in the deck were also higher resolution than I'd intended, so all card files are now at the same (lower) resolution.

Also, since the latest update to Tabletop Simulator added a bug where custom tables won't load for people entering the room after the table was loaded, I've added the link to the custom table in the notepad so that the host can reload it without reloading the whole mod (and resetting the game).

Thock, you're the second person I hear that from. Might be that the images are too high rez. Try starting TTS to a higher quality? Otherwise you have the rules here for the time being until I can put up a pdf somewhere. http://i.imgur.com/Mx0JyCV.jpg and http://i.imgur.com/k1J6ffD.jpg
Thock Aug 24, 2015 @ 6:04am
Small but big issue. Rules are not loading :(
Diceyed [Liam] Aug 23, 2015 @ 8:07pm
well from what we can tell it looks like its the 88 deck that is causeing him to crash.
FurbyFubar  [author] Aug 23, 2015 @ 7:45pm
William.G would love to try to help but have no idea what could be causing it. If he'd be willing to test out entering and crashing a few times, try removing one thing at a time that could be causing it? Like delete the rules, see if it loads for him. If not, delete the tokens, and so on...

The playtesters I've had have not had crash issues that I've noticed. (But then again, if someone enters the room and crashes to desktop it would probably look very much looking like someone entering and just exiting.)
Diceyed [Liam] Aug 23, 2015 @ 5:07pm
for some reason, my friends copy of Tabletop crashes when he trys to enter a room with this game.
comrader3d Aug 22, 2015 @ 6:51pm
Sharks with lasers and Alien Ninjas from the future, how can you not have fun with this.
bady89 Aug 22, 2015 @ 1:58pm
Good Game :) !
Beta The Wolfo Aug 21, 2015 @ 9:18pm
10/10 would play again. :steamhappy:
Ghostface Aug 21, 2015 @ 5:15pm
Awesome game wth lots of variety. No two games would play out the same. The balancing is there and the creator has really set out an immersive game for the whole family. Gather some friends and join up with FurbyFubar for a good time. I would love to see some expansions, including different alien races, planets, or even evil mutated unicorns with jet packs. Great Job and Great Mod!
Gogodr Aug 20, 2015 @ 7:28pm
Super fun to play in groups of 3 and +, silly names and all :3
Jakethesnake Aug 20, 2015 @ 2:40pm
One of the most creative and well-balanced games I've played. It's a lot to take in at first, however once the game gets going it's a neck-and-neck race to raise your dominion, thwart your 'friends' and rule the world! (more importantly: nab those t-shirts!)
Wacky fun!
Bonk! Aug 20, 2015 @ 1:02pm
Game is fun, the theme is neat, had a playthrough with the creator and a group, creator was very friendly and it was an enjoyable playthrough.
Scooter Aug 19, 2015 @ 8:53am
This game is very fun (unless you ninjas get murdered by pirates) and I was lucky enough to be a playtester! 10/10
DrCapon Aug 18, 2015 @ 6:48pm
I won by kidnapping the statue of liberty and assaulting the world with my robotic squid army. 10/10
