Should be stronger than the Spartans by at least a good margin. Even during the Macedonian wars these hoplites performed well against Sarissa pikes

Master.Shredder 29. feb. 2020 kl. 3:44
Hilarious that people tried to revise history over these guys being gay. Homosexuality for greeks was also philosophical, they believe dominating a woman was for lesser men, less masculine. Dominating another man took real masculinity.

Also Solon has nothing to do with this. Plutarch says that Goridas picked 150 MALE COUPLES regardless of their class based solely on their ability. He uses the word erastês meaning "lovers", Athenaeus also uses that word, not friends. lol

Polyaenus said men devoted to each other through love.

There's no wiggle room here, they were hella gay.
Space Wizard 15. okt. 2019 kl. 16:41

@Helicopter "It may be hard to understand from a modern perspective"...so very true...in fact it's the hardest thing nowdays...people try to interpretate the past with modern standards...the conclusion is more ignorance, historical alternation/inaccuracies and stereotypes..."Gay relationships were a very common thing in Ancient Greece" to this one even though I agree I would recommend to provide sources because the other side of the coin tells us a different story. Check out Solon's laws for homosexuality...if we want to approach this matter we 'd better study Aristotle's view of friendship and above all the status of women in ancient Greece. Homosexuality was present in Persia as well. The Greeks however found a way to make homosexuals one of the best fighting machines ever...nowdays most of homosexuals are slaves to their pleasures and lavish tastes :steamhappy:

The ancient Greek elite were famously fond of same sex relationships between men, especially among soldiers. The Spartans integrated this concept into their training program, where young recruits would be taken as lovers (or probably raped in some cases) by their trainers. Many Greeks attributed greater cohesion between hoplites that were lovers, which is probably where the idea for the Sacred Band came from.
Alexander The Greek 2. sep. 2017 kl. 10:01
I did but they don't agree with you at least the most of them.
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 2. sep. 2017 kl. 9:25
It's not a matter of opinion. Facts are facts, go and research them for yourself.
Alexander The Greek 2. sep. 2017 kl. 8:33
Sorry for the mad but It is so strange. Ok, keep your opinion but the most people disagree with you.
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 31. aug. 2017 kl. 18:53
I am not mad - these are the facts, your disagreement doesn't change that. Facts don't care about your feelings. Gay relationships were a very common thing in Ancient Greece, especially amongst soldiers. It may be hard to understand from a modern perspective, but remember that this is a very different culture from the modern day.
Alexander The Greek 28. aug. 2017 kl. 22:24
I like your unit but I disagree with your description
Alexander The Greek 28. aug. 2017 kl. 22:21
So, You tell me some of the best warriors of Greece were gay? You are mad but it is just a mod after all. At least, remove their beards so seem more gay xd.
Abbe1st 6. apr. 2015 kl. 6:12
Thanks!
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 5. apr. 2015 kl. 21:29
sure, you can use it.
Abbe1st 4. apr. 2015 kl. 16:03
Fixed it by adding them to Athens myself XD Still an awesome mod!!! With your permission I would like to use it in my "Athens unit bundle mod". Is that okay?
Abbe1st 29. mar. 2015 kl. 11:44
Great mod, The Sacred Band of Thebes were awesome! Sadly I cannot find them in custom battle at all. Any idea why? Thanks
EviLyanna 20. mar. 2015 kl. 20:35
They only defeated the spartans right flank because the spartans were 12 men deep and the thebans were 50 men deep. but the decisive factor was that the thebas flank the spartiates with thier cavalry. ..

instead of using the traditional greek formation thebans used a diagonal (stairs) formation. the focus all of their troops to deal with the spartiates thus the won a decisive victory. :)

So my point is these unit is OP haha. :)
Alexander The Greek 9. jan. 2015 kl. 12:02
Damm, they weren't couples LOL!!!
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 29. dec. 2014 kl. 22:03
If you want to make them bodyguards, it's easy to edit it yourself, just add them to commander units category using Pack File Manager. I've decided to be historically accurate and not make them a bodyguard.
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 29. dec. 2014 kl. 22:01
They are not a bodyguard or command unit, they are an elite combat unit. I'm not doing that.
Bob 28. dec. 2014 kl. 10:16
Make them bodyguard for generals so we can have them earlier please
ToonTotalWar 28. dec. 2014 kl. 4:06

Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 28. dec. 2014 kl. 3:57

ToonTotalWar 28. dec. 2014 kl. 1:23
I like the colours you have used for the units, are you going to include the faction colours change?
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 27. dec. 2014 kl. 22:53
sure, that's fine.
ToonTotalWar 27. dec. 2014 kl. 17:17

W3LTUS 27. dec. 2014 kl. 2:31
Very nice work but this not a general unit
Christopher-Eduardo 25. dec. 2014 kl. 16:34
They are so gay. Good mod, thank you.
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 22. dec. 2014 kl. 22:06
Picked Hoplites would generally be richest and best armed, they fill that spot already.
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 22. dec. 2014 kl. 22:06
perhaps Elis could have XP bonus upon recruitment?
I_am_a_Son_of_Hades 22. dec. 2014 kl. 5:56
In regards to the aditional units: some elite Cavelry for Thessaly, and for Thebes, both have many mentions in Thucydides. More mercanaries, possibly hoplites, specifically from Syracuse and Italy cos they playes a massive role and i was upset they were not part of the map at all, and some from the other major greek ploies (Messalia, the Bosporous, Cyprus, Cyrene) and other major players, Egypt and Carthage mainly, just to represent their involvement. Perhaps a larger roster for the Athenian navy, so they really can be dominant at sea, and the same for Korinth and Korkyra as they were the major navel powers. Perhaps a unit for all the greeks of noble hoplites, (or the higher social classes) because it was considered more honourable to be a hoplite than in the cavelry.
Andreas of Sparta 22. dec. 2014 kl. 2:22
Perhaps Elian Hoplites and Elian Hippeis for Elis???Elis was one very rich and powerfull city because of the Olympic Games...they had good cavalry[most of the Greeks except Thessalians and Macedon later didnt use to much cavalry...]and very good tradition to Hoplites....
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 21. dec. 2014 kl. 22:25
people can suggest a historical unit which they would like to see in WoS, I agree that the roster is too small, especially mercenaries.
Andreas of Sparta 21. dec. 2014 kl. 11:02
very good work!!!Hope to add more units and for other factions of WOS cause its a problem that all they have small rosters...i would like to see 1-2 special units for every faction of WOS....
I_am_a_Son_of_Hades 21. dec. 2014 kl. 3:50
That does make sence, and from the description never expected it to be recruitable fist turn. It would be possible for it to have happened at late in the war, i.e. the ionian war or Siccilian expedition
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 20. dec. 2014 kl. 19:28
it's only a late game unit
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 20. dec. 2014 kl. 19:28
sure, it was formed in 378 BCE, but I made it only recruitable in level 4, it takes some time and research to get them.
I_am_a_Son_of_Hades 20. dec. 2014 kl. 10:51
Whilst i love the addition and will use cos is awsome. But historically the Sacred Band came about when poleis (city states) began to have profeshional armies, after the Pellopanesian War to rival the amount of Greek Hoplite mecenaries which increased after several generations had grown up all over the greek world only knowing war. Not that it matters as i will still use, could you do the same for other factions? :)
Red Warlord  [ophavsmand] 19. dec. 2014 kl. 21:21
It did not have it's current connotation back then, it was seen as entirely normal, even expected.
