What is this model even for? as far as I know there's not any ways to see your own player model so.. what's this used for.?

Pretty sure the original model is outright the one from HL1, just with the chrome texture applied as a flat texture across the entire thing. Don't know if this preserves the HL1 animations as well

This technically affects the "playermodel" used in-game HOWEVER since you're never meant to actually SEE said model, Valve never bothered to texture it much less animate it, that's why it looks stiff as a brick and so untextured in the images.
