Very fun mod, any chance you could change the confederacy's primary species to Kaleesh? Or even droids? Least favorite part of the playthrough is the fact that Nemodians start out as your primary species.

@Ract I figured it out. Looks like its the Kalees_portraits.txt file, you need to put in automaton_hulk_01 everywhere in there. I replaced all the kaleesh portraits and renamed them just to be grievous, and I put the automaton_hulk_01 everywhere it said kaleesh_male or something and it worked flawlessly even after game start. If you havent messed with the main game and your mod like I have, try this step for me and see if it's a permenant fix because I can't fix my game anymore.

@cyanide god damm bro yea im not the best when it comes to coding so this mod is made using hevely edited pre-existing codes from other mods stitched together like some Frankenstein mod im gonna try and fix that in the future

Start a game as the confed
click begin on the first prompt
~ for console put in debugtooltip and hover over the human leader
get the id near the bottom of the list of stats of the leader
save the game and find where your save file went
open the archived save file with either 7zip or winrar or something like that
drag out gamestate and meta
edit gamestate in Notepad++
control+F then put in the human leaders id
find the right traits and country=0
change the "portrait=" line from kaleesh or neimoidian to automaton_hulk_01
save the file
click both gamestate and meta
add them to archive with 7zip
name the save whatever you want but end it with .sav
archive format zip
compression level 3- fast
compression method * deflate
parameters: tc=off
save it and load up stellaris, save file should be there, load up the game and grievous should be there to stay. Haven't tested it yet without my meddling around in the code so it may or may not work sorry

When you begin the game, it's changing automaton_hulk_01 into kaleesh in the portrait line of the gamestate file. Other empires have their custom leaders that work so there is some conflict in the codes somewhere. Steps I do to fix it is:

Okay so it might have taken years off my life but I did it. So when you click start game or begin or whatever, the game is changing the portrait to the empires species (Neimoidians) and trying to find a portrait called "Kaleesh" in there (which there is none so it makes it a bald human). I'll have to do more testing to see if everything I did before today was arbitrary or not but it finally worked. I'll get back with steps to replicate and maybe you could somehow implement them into the mods files to somehow make it work Idk how modding works.

It's almost as if the portrait in the main menu and the portrait in the actual game are different.

Hey! Amazing mod but recently every time I start a game as the CIS and load into the map, the General is not his cyborg self, he's still Kaleesh. Is this a bug or is that supposed to happen? Thanks

@Trump no it just requires New Dawn your issue is most likely the New Dawn county mod overwriting my mod try launching the game with only my mod and New Dawn enabled

for some reason whenever I load the game with this, his portrait isn't as it should be, looks hella scuffed, looks fine when pre loading but then looks like a scuffed 'normal' Kaleesh portrait.
