i think the author originally had it as a pathfinder module of some kind by the same name as well.
this is the first reboot of it that adds animations to those who never had them

Alien Suns is an impressive portrait mod from many years ago. It stuck with a lot of people because the offered selection actually had genuine variety and otherworldly creatures that felt actually alien and unique. The author is long since missing and moved on in their life so we try to keep it alive.

i haven't seen any incompatibles with other portrait mods myself. Try loading just Alien Suns and this mod to check for incompatibilities.

Rediscovered is loaded after the original alien suns mod. Should it be the other way around?

The only thing I can think of if it isn't a load order issue is that I have some mods enabled (that I made) which add new portraits. The mods add portraits to new classes, so don't modify the portrait categories already in the game, but could it still be a compatibility concern?

No red error - just a yellow "Out of date" alert.

is there a red error next to alien suns in your load order? i have had this issue a few times where alien suns seems to download without a descriptor file for some reason

I've got both this mod and the original alien suns enabled - but only a few portraits from the mod are appearing, with many other portraits just resembling duplicates of vanilla portraits in the incorrect categories (fungoid in the molluscoid section for example).

Yeah, the original plan was to get into contact with the original mod creator: S.C. Watson, and get animated portraits of all the outer rim stuff done. but he never contacted me. I had some of the portraits animated for a while for use with friends while i waited. recently i just bit the bullet since i have tired several ways of contacting him and got no response. i still have 3 portraits left to animate. But right now i am actually working on a mod i can properly call my own. it's nearing completion, hope you guys like ship sets!

Well done on the animations - on seeing this I assumed it was just another one of those 'update' mods where someone makes a few minor text changes (like just changing the version number) but you've really built upon the previous mod and added some unique value of your own here.
