Someone never played SMAC? Heresy! Also, having been a hardcore SMAC player/modder (yeah, you could hack the hell out of that game... ah, text-file-based parameters!), I sinceryly hope this runs on Rising Tide, now.

@mike4314 ...never played SMAC, huh?

Ugh. I just updated the mod recently, and there's a weird bug with the upload process that never causes it to upload the description properly for this ONE faction of mine. Sorry, didn't realize the description has been missing for so long.

A Greek city state with a spanish name...makes sense?

Nice, but it is a bit OP. Maybe weaken the XP from 20 to 10.

THIS IS! SPARTA!

I think a bonus similar to that of Japan in Civ 5 would be better suited for this civ, as they would probably be more aggressive than defensive.

@sean: Thanks for the kind words! More than happy to help.

@Volver: Is this coming after the recent buff I gave them? They now receive prototypes of ANY military unit upon researching it, so long as they can build it at the time of research. This means, with planning, a free CNDR, Lev Tank, or even a Xeno-titan so long as a city meets the requirement. I definitely agree that the previous trait wasn't powerful enough, but I hesistate to make them any more powerful.

As for how appropriate their other bonuses are, I am a little on the fence. I think you have good points. I was trying to go for a "survivalist" them with the city defense, but I do agree the game does lack very offense oriented factions. I'll put more thought into my interpretation of the faction on this round of rebalancing.

@lilgamefreek: Thanks for the reply! You don't owe me anything. I thought you'd like to know in case you heard other reports. I will try them again sometime soon. Thanks for the great mods :-)

I think these guys could stand to be buffed though. A 15% infrastructure nerf is VERY strong. Their military advantages aren't enough to compensate. The promotion they start with can be earned through just a few tangles with aliens, and 10 city strength is less than any defensive building. Plus these guys would presumably want to be on the offensive anyway, so fortress-cities really shouldn't be necessary.

For a combat buff I was thinking something along the lines of Civ V's Heroic Epic, +x% stacking with other promotions. Or the Japan trait of always fighting as if at full strength... that seems almost equally suitable to Sparta. And instead of city defenses give them a yield from killing enemy faction units (make the alien-farming policy global for them maybe, or energy, which would help mitigate the production penalty).

I'd love to see these guys made into true warmongers, a la the Civ V Mongols or Japan. That's something the game presently lacks utterly.

@sean: The new update completely reimplements the faction's trait. It's more dynamic and i tested it extensively. I never encountered your bug, but hopefully you'll stop encountering it with this update as well.

That's really bizarre. I'll take a look at some of my code work to see if there might be anything, but I have high doubts it's origins lie with this faction in particular. Thanks for the heads up. I'll get back to you by the end of the week.

Thanks for the mod. I like it and have played some of your other ones.

I'm having a major problem with this one, but it may be because of the other mods I'm running. Sometimes when I bring a new city online (in this game, one that was given to made peace and one I built) the capital switches to that city :-(

Cool, if there's more than one then different options and stuff is always good.
lilgamefreek  [author] Nov 11, 2014 @ 3:28am
Albie_123 mod uses the portraits from the civ5 mod if I remember correctly. I don't know if they're all shared, but I suspect so. I'm leaving mine the way it is for maximum diversity. That way users have maximum choice in the matter.
Mana Nov 11, 2014 @ 2:24am
I'd recommend you update the image icons. There was a similar mod to civ 5 and I know it used Morgan Freeman as Morgan and Michelle Rodriguez as Santiago.
lilgamefreek  [author] Nov 8, 2014 @ 3:50am
Haha, steam completely trashed my descriptions a few times, so it's a combination of rush copy pasting and panic editing. Thanks for picking it out! As you can see from the screens, the info is right in game at least.
sunloverdenver Nov 8, 2014 @ 2:35am
Ah, just a few comments here: "Play as Colonel Corazón Santaigo, leader of the Lord's Believers" - #1, it's Santiago, not Santaigo, and #2, Miriam Godwinson was the leader of the Lord's Believers - not Col. Santiago. It's weird your actual mod name is listed as Spartan Federation, but in your description is listed as Lord's Believers.

Sorry to completely trash your mod with this news, but facts straight from the get-go makes for a better mod, neh? I'm sure you can make the necessary corrections. ^_^

Mostly interesting implementtions of lal's and yang's traits. Also the trouble of NAUTILUS PIRATES YARGH. No idea how I'll do that faction any justice.
Gh0st_Note- Nov 7, 2014 @ 11:56pm
No problem! Glad to hear you plan on continuing to convert moree factions. :) Which factions are you having difficulty thinking of how to implement?
lilgamefreek  [author] Nov 7, 2014 @ 5:17pm
Note there was an issue with the mod name in a recent update, that caused the mod to fail to install. If the fix is not updating for you,

1.) go to the folder Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth\MODS and delete any files related to Gaia's Stepdaughters.

2.) go to the folder Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth\cache and delete the CivBEModsDatabase

@ GODLIKE!: Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you're enjoying them. I'm certainly planning to get around to all of the human factions, though some are proving to be headscratchers in terms of implementation. I just uploaded the Believers and Gaians today!
Gh0st_Note- Nov 4, 2014 @ 10:56pm
I really like your vision so far on the SMAC to B.E. conversion of SMAC factions. Hope you plan on completing all 7 of them and potentially delving into the Alien Crossfire factions as well. Keep up the good work.
