I also wanted to make the western hive support the player more, but they have a bad habit of healing everyone who is unconscious, even your enemies. I tested both in the past, and it was... inconvenient.

Is it possible you have a mod pack that includes this without your knowledge?
As for the other question, in my dialogue fix I linked on this page (which I assume you're seeing dialogue from) I mostly decided on a whim to allow trade for southern hive players. A part of me felt it would be funny for the traders to think they've finally made their aggressive cousins agree to a bargain.
Making the retaliation raid leave without triggering the next one can be tricky. You'd have to find a way to make them go home without actually defeating them. Otherwise, though, you should also be fine if you import your save to keep your relations.
