Honestly, I might just remove full free play because it can lead to this kind of confusion.
My brother and I have some videos on his channel, AgilitySnips.
Glad you are enjoying!
Also, I think I've been watching your play-through of the Normandy campaign on YouTube. Was that you? Great stuff. I realized I was making some mistakes: not keeping my CO in LOS with other HQs on the CO TAC radio network, and not placing terrain behind newly-placed terrain cards to make sure there isn't higher terrain behind the revealed card.
Anyway, thank you for a beautiful module. I'm finishing up my first game with it today.
2. That cube is there for you to advance. The module doesn't know when you are done with a specific function. Just there to help you.
3. A lot of objects are "state-based". If you hover over and see something like (1/2), then you can click the right mouse button, find States and see the different options.
4. Manual for TTS?
1. Does the module save my game in progress automatically? I can't find a save-game button.
2. Does the little red cube on the Sequence of Play ever advance automatically? I thought it might, for example when I hit "clean up," but it didn't.
3. The action menu fold-out on the lower-left of the table shows half the action menu. I can't quite figure out how to flip it. "Flip" doesn't seem to work; nor does toggle state.
4. Finally, is there a manual or documentation or help file?
Many thanks for a great module.
However, I can 't find VOF Automatic Weapons counters. I believe there is a stack of Pending Fire -3 counters in their place. I've tried looking through the bags and can't find them.
I agree on the immersion fluff Sprogz mentioned: The weird language (and I have been in the miliary, ages ago) of the phases doesn't help with immersion. naming your leaders would help very much.
Close to starting that campaign in Korea that I have been waiting for for so long now... :D
However, we can add the Field Manuals to the mod/free play options to assist a player wanting to work through them. In the meantime, any player can add the field manual by starting a game, selecting Object and search for PDF - drop a PDF object, pick the PDF and import as a local file.
But until they, choose a Freeplay and you can set it up yourself just like if at a table. For example, if using Normandy terrain/units, pick Normandy Freeplay. If the mission with the helicopter assault, pick Vietnam freeplay.
As the game progresses, it really helps immersion for me when the units are led by "named" HQs and they take on a personality of their own.
With that said it would be nice on the campaign log to have a small box next to the HQs to be able to enter something like this. I am seeing if adding it in the HQ's description beneath their unit name (veterancy) text works for now. It seems to be just right for adding a name which can be seen by hovering over the unit.
A QoL improvement I'd like to see is to be able to assign a colour to each platoon for the purposes of easier tracking (on the terrain map) of which attachments are assigned to which platoons.
At the moment I'm group-selecting each platoon and their attachments and right-click Color Tint-ing them (so the unit counters all get the same coloured-border), so 1st PLT is Green, 2nd PLT is Yellow and 3rd PLT Red (to match the smoke I give them).
I did the same thing in the VASSAL mod and it saves having to move my eyes away from the action on the terrain map to the campaign log to see which units are attached to which platoons. FoF is such a workout for the brain that every little reduction in distraction helps.
Maybe a colour picker next to the PLT HQ or on the dotted line above each PLT HQ that leads down to each platoon on the campaign log to enable quickly choosing a colour for them.
I've been using Colin's amazing VASSAL mod so far but as we all know, the VASSAL UI isn't for everyone.
Looking forward to giving this mod a go while I wait for my Fields of Fire Deluxe to be shipped; probably got a few weeks yet before it reaches my hands, so plenty of time to try this mod.
Small typo found on the Quality of Life card; "One feature that is not obvioous..."
