In vanilla, Overwatch should set AP to zero immediately after choosing it, but with this mod, mercs retain all their AP after setting up overwatch. This really breaks the game, especially with Raven that gives Marked status on overwatch.

So I end up just constantly setting overwatch with Raven for free, mark enemies, get cheap kills using other mercs, then cancel and and reset the overwatch again and again. All in the same turn.

The version on Nexus is more recent at the moment (3rd August 2025: v 6.11).

Yep. And it ignores Rato's Stance mechanic, basically granting free Shooting Stance (not to mention the fact that it makes Omryn's skill endlessly reusable)

It seems the mod changes it so that overwatch still has one shot even if the merc has 0 AP left at the end of the turn. Can this be changed?

Mod author is very reactive on nexusmods. If you notice bugs please consider reporting them on the nexus so we can all contribute to improve this wonderful mod :)

I downgraded the mod to the previous version (4.4)

I went to nexxus and donwloaded the previous version from April 2025, unsubcribed the workshop one and manuaky instaled the one that I've got from nexxus and everything is back to normal.

Not using ratos nor tac AI and still was having hung ups as soon as a third party ally set an overwatch.

It didn't work. A mod option is just an option. You cannot count too much on it.

However, I DID manage to rescue my saved game by reloading the legacy RATO's GBO-patching version of Smart Overwatch. Everything back to normal.

Yeah, I believe the latest version of SO is conflicting with TACTICAL AI PROJECT. The save-corrupting issue generally came up when a third-party friendly unit (not player's mercs) set up an overwatch that happened to cover the step position of my merc. I will try to remove the latest option and see if it can temporarily bypass the issue.

@Malaktica: you were using TACTICAL AI PROJECT also? or even without it, your game gets hung up?

Disabling Smart Overwatch fixes this issue for me. Sad, because its such an important mod. Please fix!

@Malaktica The game gets hung up after turn2-4 for me, especially on big fights. Passing the turn does nothing. Characters don't move or respond. Going to try another playthough without Smart OW and see if it helps. Using rato's mods as well.

there is an issue with your mod and TACTICAL AI PROJECT, this mod made AI to use overwatch very often and not sure how but at some point my character can&t take any actions and cannot move, it's like the game is stuck.. passing the turn do nothing... Could you fix it or maybe add an option to disable this option for the AI?

there is an updated version on nexus that explicitly calls out it was patched for compatibility with Ratos GBO :party:

Can confirm, OW is now broken if you use Rato's GBO 3 together with this. OW "max attacks" always stay at 0, making overwatch effectively nonfunctional.

The overwatch function is not activated, compatibility has been lost

I use only TOG + Assets. I think, the button for leaving the overwatch-stance breaks the ai.

What other mods do you use?

BTW I am not the maintainer, I just re-upload from nexus so better report there.

I uploaded newest nexus version

after some time mod broke my game, enemies witch was under overwatch stops moving at all during enemy relocation phasse. I needet to completly delete mod and game works fine now.

For those hitting that message.

It sounds more ominous than it really is.

Go to mods menu in game. Re-enable Smart Overwatch.

Message will still happen once but goes away after following load.

Cheers to Lucjan for making it possible. I don't use Nexus so much but I'm still digging this mod. My mercs stopped shooting rocks and I no longer have to outsmart the overwatch mechanic to not shoot rocks. That alone is a godsend.

In the newest nexus update the mod id was changed, you need to enable it in the mod menu and it should work, loading will give you warning but it will be there

For some reason the mod stopped working - when I try to load a save made a few days ago, I get a message that Smart Overwatch is missing or outdated. I tried unsubscribing and subscribing again - didn't help

Hard to say it worked for me 1 week ago and I use both of those mods too. Try just this one and go from there.

Hello! Doesn't work for me, assault rifles in Overwatch always fire in bursts, even if the shooting is set to single shots. Of the global mods, I have Rato's Gameplay Balance and Overhaul 3 and TOG installed. What could be the reason?

cool thig that this mod is also on steam now. i had this already since a long time (got it frm nexus) and i dont want to play without it anymore. one of the best mini mods ^^

It seems to be working like a charm. The best part is, my mercs stopped shooting walls and rocks when a hand starts to come around that wall or rock.

It was a bit annoying having to figure out how to game the game just so my mercs would stop shooting inanimate objects. And certain situations just meant you shouldn't even set up any overwatches (sad face). Like if they could pop -up- from behind a rock. My mercs always shot the rock. So, it's a complete waste of time to even set the vanilla overwatches in some cases. This mod seems to takes all that frustration away. Thank you.

I'm sorry, everything worked. It's just that I foolishly overlooked the Hide icons option in the settings menu.

You can change the default overwatch action for each weapon when available. (Single shots, bursts, full auto)

Can you explain more what these red symbols except target means?

It never worked for me, even on one rifle a glitch appeared, that is, an overwatch that does not exist. It doesn't work, probably because of BCE GUNS

Same for me. I uninstalled nexus version, installed this and now neither of them is working. It shows in the menu but I can´t see the overwatch icon at all.

Edit: after unsubscribing, restarting the game multiple times and reinstalling the nexus version, it´s working again.

For some reason this one wont work for me. Fixed it by manually installing it from nexusmods :/
