Land Geography Changed

Just so you know, it seems like if you play multiplayer with this mod + a land realm with the trait from Giant Kings "Lands of Myrridia" the game crashes on startup.

There are almost no mountains in the "tropics," but everything is the same in the "endless fields" :с
Tobold  [author] Aug 13 @ 4:19am
Checked after release of the Archon Prophecy DLC, running with all DLCs. My mod is still working as intended. If you select a realm with the Land geography trait, with my mod you end up with fewer mountains, and more lakes.
Only minor change from before is that previously without the mod the Land geography had no lakes at all, and now it can have one or two lakes as part of special geographic regions.

Hello, I just acquired Season 1 and when launching an old save, I have a message error asking to upgrade this Mod to v.0.6.6
It does not seem to prevent from playing.

I have a small suggestion - consider renaming the generation ruleset to something like ‘Land Remastered’ or ‘Land Alternative’ to allow players to also choose the vanilla Land option. :moxes:
Grathocke Nov 10, 2024 @ 10:20am
@Tobold Yep. I've got rivers and lakes. Sometimes more, sometimes not as many. I really appreciate you giving us this mod.
Tobold  [author] Nov 10, 2024 @ 8:16am
No update needed, the mod is still working. Use the CTRL-ALT-C cheat menu and the cheat code BARENTZ to see the whole map. Without the mod there would be absolutely no lakes on the "land" map. With the mod there are now lakes (and considerably fewer mountains, of course).
Guvenoren Nov 10, 2024 @ 8:06am
Needs update?
Grathocke Jul 17, 2024 @ 11:13am
Never mind. It's back now.
Grathocke Jul 17, 2024 @ 11:08am
@Tobold Are you in the process of updating this mod? It shows that I'm subscribed, but it is completely missing from my installed mods and playlist. I've tried several times unsubscribing and resubscribing but it is persistently MIA.
CreeperDelta Jul 9, 2024 @ 5:48pm
Is there anyway you can make a mod for region names, such as for valleys, mountains, and forests? AOW Planetfall had random region names but this doesn't.
Dragon May 5, 2024 @ 7:03pm
Hello , I seem to be having an issue with the Empire skill tree where when I select Basic Seafaring my u\nits some how cannot go into the water, I was wondering if it had something to do with this mod or a compatibility issue with the Landscape Overhaul mod? Great mod btw
Wandering Mania Mar 30, 2024 @ 2:03am
Welp, yeah the mod is working, as there is lakes. But I have got to be the most unlucky SOB on this rock; As even after the 'official patch' a few months back, that was suppose to reduce the amount of mountains, and this mod added on top of that. My map still looks like this:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3206197549

God do I miss the sliders that just let you set mountains to 0 in Planetfall.
Tobold  [author] Mar 30, 2024 @ 12:35am
There are 2 ways to check whether the mod works: First is to check if you see any lakes. The unmodded land map has no water at all, only with the mod do you get lakes. The second method is to use the CTRL-ALT-C cheat menu and the cheat code BERENTZ to see the whole map. If you do it with and without the mod, the difference should be obvious.

And yes, you can still get unlucky and have a lot of mountains around your starting position.
Wandering Mania Mar 29, 2024 @ 11:18pm
And are you sure this still works at all? Because I load a purely land map, and I see this:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3206065654

Or is it that I'm just the 'unluckiest SOB' that always seems to roll the highest possible amount of mountains?
Wandering Mania Mar 29, 2024 @ 3:32pm
Does this work with the 'Divide' map type as well?
Or is there a special mod for that map type?
Hraagh Mar 14, 2024 @ 11:49am
Our coop game broke with the latest aow4 patch :(
Tobold  [author] Mar 10, 2024 @ 3:46am
The mod doesn't affect rivers at all.
Feztis Mar 10, 2024 @ 3:23am
Just to clarify, despite the map generating with lakes it doesn't generate any rivers right?
Zaeron Feb 29, 2024 @ 1:48pm
Yeah sorry Tobold, you and Eeo are correct - I did have a weird one off bug where it generated both further away than normal and uncleared, but I haven't been able to replicate that issue with or without your mod enabled. Sorry for wasting your time, and thank you for the mod :)
Blood Feb 28, 2024 @ 10:16pm
Alright, must be something else then. Thanks for responding.
Tobold  [author] Feb 28, 2024 @ 10:03pm
This mod should not affect free city spawning at all. It also should be compatible with realm traits that lower free city frequency, like “low population”.
Blood Feb 28, 2024 @ 8:40pm
Does this mod effect free city spawning at all? Curious, since Primal Update, Ive noticed my maps have been having insane amounts of them and I'm not sure if its just the game or a map config mod breaking it potentially.
Tobold  [author] Feb 27, 2024 @ 11:13pm
Checked compatibility with the Primal Fury DLC and Wolf patch. Mod is still working.

Checked that Wonder Architects, as Eeo said, produces a wonder that is not necessarily directly adjacent to the city, with and without the mod. With and without the mod that wonder can be added to the city without having to clear it, as soon as the province adjacent to it is settled.
Eeo Feb 27, 2024 @ 12:52pm
@Zaeron - The distance for Wonder Architects is just 'nearby'. It can be as many as 4 spaces away, though that rarely happens. It SHOULD be pre-cleared regardless though, so that might be worth looking into.
Zaeron Feb 24, 2024 @ 5:37pm
Pretty sure this mod is breaking the Wonder Architects trait. Wonders are spawning more than 1 tile away and they are not spawning pre-cleared.
Tobold  [author] Feb 18, 2024 @ 1:11pm
It doesn't replace the lakes. There is a function in the game with which the random map generator can replace lakes by either mountains or lava. This mod switches that function off for the Land geography. Different secondary traits give different percentages of mountains, but these percentages are always calculated *without* the mountains transformed from lakes.
Baleur Feb 17, 2024 @ 8:13am
If one uses the highlands world modifier, does it properly add more mountains and if so does that "replace" some of the lakes?
Tobold  [author] Feb 14, 2024 @ 12:13am
There appears to be a lower limit to the percentage of provinces that are uninhabitable. When I lower the percentage of lakes and mountains by too much, uninhabitable grassland provinces appear, which can't be built on. And I have no idea on how to turn those off, sorry.

I would really wish for Triumph to add sliders to the random map generation. Writing a mod for every possible percentage of lakes and mountains that somebody might wish to play is frankly impossible.
syn77379 Jan 20, 2024 @ 8:52pm
@Tobold Would you consider a version of this without the lakes as well? i'd like to try a very open desert map, with few mountains and forests, and little to no water.
Tobold  [author] Jan 12, 2024 @ 2:15am
@Annex The overall percentage of mountains is influenced both by the basic geography type, in this case “Land”, and by additional realm traits, e.g. Overgrown. My recommendation would be to use the cheat menu (CTRL-ALT-C) with the Berentz cheat code to unveil the whole map. Do that with and without the mod, and with and without additional realm traits, until you find a combination that works for you.
❗️❗️ Annex ❗️❗ Jan 10, 2024 @ 12:31pm
Any trick to getting this to work? Land always gets me tons of mountains as always
HarryB Dec 30, 2023 @ 6:52am
Just wanted to give you a thumbs up, I really like this mod and since I've found it, I use it for all my games.
NoxNillZero Dec 30, 2023 @ 6:37am
thanks for this, i found it silly the land option generated so many mountains, quite the opposite of its description =P
Tobold  [author] Dec 30, 2023 @ 6:26am
It swaps out *some* of the mountains for lakes, but removes others. So lakes plus mountains with mod is lower than mountains without mod.
LiTe Dec 29, 2023 @ 10:39am
Does this swap out some of the mountains for the lakes? It seems like if you pretend that the lakes are mountains you get roughly the same as unmoded.
Mal Dec 20, 2023 @ 12:38pm
Merry xmas to you too and thanks. So odd adding mountains to overgrown. Was expecting trees and such.
Tobold  [author] Dec 20, 2023 @ 11:20am
For Mal, and everybody else who thought there are still too many mountains with this mod, I added another Mod to my workshop called Overgrown without Mountains. If you use both this mod and that one, you can create a Land map with absolutely no mountains at all.

Merry Christmas to all of you!
Mal Dec 20, 2023 @ 11:16am
Ah, will try fields then. Tomorrow.
Tobold  [author] Dec 20, 2023 @ 8:52am
@Mal: I looked it up: The "Overgrown Realm" adds 30% Highlands and 30% Mountains to a map. That is the reason for the mountains you are seeing, the second trait overwrites the defaults of the Land geography trait. Try without any second trait, or something like Endless Fields. Map size doesn't affect mountain percentages, I tried at different sizes from medium to very large.
Mal Dec 20, 2023 @ 6:44am
That might just be it. Im playing on very large and you on large?
Mal Dec 20, 2023 @ 6:38am
It was the biggest map i could, overgrown and then blank, blank and then crystals, no cities, and infestation regen.
Tobold  [author] Dec 20, 2023 @ 5:12am
@joel.west There aren't any graphics or other files in this mod that would explain why. The only thing the mod does is to modify the file RMG_Definitions_Strategic.rpk. As far as I know, the game produces a copy of that file for that purpose. But the file is only 162 kb, so I don't know where the rest is coming from.
joel.west Dec 19, 2023 @ 9:17pm
I noticed today that after the golem game update my game save file is 4x bigger than it would be with 76 added mods compared to the 24 basic mods I 'must have' to play the game

your mod did not add all of that but to a two player small map save file it adds 350 kb. that may not sound like much but prior to the golem update this is more than 1.5x the 220 kb entire save file size for a two player small map game

please post if you can figure out how to fix this. until then I am tempted to turn off this mod (along with other save file space hogs). which is a shame since this mod on land terrain setting reduces the amount of mts and adds inland lakes
Tobold  [author] Dec 19, 2023 @ 1:26pm
So, here are my screenshots. Without the mod, I get maps like this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3118056260
With my mod, I get maps like this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3118057628 , or the thumbnail. There are mountains, but a lot fewer than without the mod, and there are lakes, which aren't present without the mod.
I can see on your screenshot that the mod is working, because you have lakes on it. So I suspect that it is another realm trait choice or mod that produces this situation. Did you for example select "Highlands" as the second choice? Or some other realm trait that might have an influence on geography?
Mal Dec 17, 2023 @ 2:20pm
Sorry for the delay, had already uninstalled and moved on hehe. Did a reinstall and this is from the game start of the other one. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3116602030
Tobold  [author] Dec 16, 2023 @ 4:57am
@Mal: Could you do me a favor a try something? CRTL-ALT-C in the game opens the console, and the BARENTZ cheat code shows the whole map. A screenshot of the whole map would show whether the mod isn't working, or you just got unlucky with the remaining fewer mountains just being in your corner randomly.
Mal Dec 13, 2023 @ 8:20am
Ah well. Started a new Large Land Map. This is the first thing i always see when doing that. 3 effin mountains taking up 50% of the area at my starting city leaving 0 room for expansion and ill eat my hat theres mountains everywhere as i would have kept playing. Sorry man, aint workin'. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3113118308

If this works... prepare to get weekly loveletters xD
Ohwen Dec 8, 2023 @ 12:35am
Thank you. Those mountains were a pain in the ass
