Rome 1 population mechanics are still they best in the series.

groowth is too strong. i was gaining 50k+ people per turn in a small town. something way off.

and the cost of building is too high. i think you need to water down the effects.

i am hoping this make a drastically harder experience. following with keen interest!:lunar2020halodragon:

quick question, will this work without MTU? I use CGI without MTU in my current playthrus, which is a more vanilla game. i think this should still work right? otherwize ill make a non MTU compatible version.

let me know

Wow, that sounds good. I will give it a try, but won't lie I am worried for balance.

So how exactly will the AI be adapted into this new system? I definitely applaud you overhauling the really bland population mechanic, but I'd say this is quite a radical change especially in terms of how the AI can cope with this. From my own tests here and there, I definitely see the AI really falling short to the point it makes a Legendary difficulty run, not feel like a Legendary difficulty run.

In my own overhaul mod, I also made some QoL changes, more minor than here, and even the AI had a tough time adapting to the change. I kinda ended up having to give the AI more cheats than they already get, to get them to act more competently with the new minor changes. Will there be some fixes with AI behavior to keep up with the overhaul in the future?

I played a campaign with this mod. I found the early game really rewarding, since it made the game harder without cheating. However I found the late game easier, since the AI didn't know how to adapt and many AI factions fell 'by them selves' to Revolts, Yellow Turbans, looters etc. The AI couldn't cope with the new system in the long term imo. :)

@DatWeebComingInHot, is this mod compatible with TROM + TUP?

Are the other mods you made a compatible versions? are they different?

Updated the startpos and made MTU compatible, place it under Better Population in the load order

@Kansala migration is a bit difficult to pay with since it only works in 1000s. Currently in the 194 start date (my balance reference given its the best campaign IMO) has a very well developed north, with population being so high they get cut off by city level limits. This will be changed when I get to editing startpos.

@Orendiz yeah the cost multiplier is not optimal given I've just multiplied time and costs by a certain number (I think 5). Though I plan to revise the startpos so some cities like Chang'an are actually already built up to a level 8-9 city, with high level infrastructure. The goal is not to make the player spend half their income on development, but for the player to use the military to capture centers of population which provide income. The goal is to instill the mindset that some places are simply not worth investing in, and expansion to populous regions is a must. Though some tweaking with prices and build times will be done

Hi! This looks really promising. But would you consider this change to migration, where it is active but towards the economic centres. Which would make the historically important areas like the north actually important and the vast unused land in the south less useful.
Gman9090 Jul 2, 2023 @ 6:09pm
This sounds very promising, can't wait to see where it goes! Keep up the good work!
Orendiz Jul 1, 2023 @ 7:23am
my main problem so far is how expensive everything is and how much time it takes to build. When you start the game you cant progress ur basic quests like upgrading a town etc becouse the only building you can build takes 9 turns to build.

Sounds really promising

This your 1st mod ever? This is impressive if so. I just uploaded my 1st two mods ever about 10 days ago lol.

I haven't tried this out yet but looks like a game changer :)
