Beautifully-made room, with compelling puzzles and a handful of creative red herrings thrown in to lead us astray.

Like others, I would recommend a soundtrack to enhance the atmosphere and experience. I was also confused for some time over the vagueness of the potion clues; I assume that was the point. I would suggest changing one of the ingredient names to 'Peppermint Flavoring' or 'Peppermint Schnapps'. I had to look up the answer to 'Drops of water, undead's bane', it didn't even occur to me that there would be a process to it. And I suppose I should pick up a book more, I had to look up the definition of acridity. Finally, I didn't know where to put the sword after releasing it from the stone.

However, as most of these issues existed between keyboard and chair, kudos to the creator for making a real headscratcher of an escape room. I had a great time!

Peppermint is not sweet, what in god's name are you eating? Try tasting peppermint oil and see if it tastes like candy.

Very nice room, I liked the theme and the style of puzzles. I wish the final puzzle were a bit more complicated.
The zodiac puzzle was tricky, I didn't immediately co-related the colors with the books and ended up brute forcing the zodiac puzzle by combining the cards while they were laying on the floor. I was thinking that there should be a mirror or a way to rotate the wheel on the floor. It was only after matching the lines that I noticed what they formed. Was going for a pentagram in the beginning.

Anyway, cool room. Congrats.

A very nice take on the escape room from Geek & Sundry's 'Escape! w/ Janet Varney'. I immediately got it when you used the same potion recipe that they had trouble figuring out

Hey guys, thank you all for your comments I'm really glad people are liking the room :) I've especially taken into account people's comments about the potion and I intend to go in and change some of the ingredients and perhaps come up with a different riddle that is less vague and requires less ingredients.

I'm extremely busy at the moment as I'm a teacher in the UK and I'm helping kids get ready for the exams.

Once again thank you all so much, I had no idea this would become as subscribed to as it has and I greatly appreciate all of your support and tips. Next room coming to a Steam workshop near you in the near future! :)

The magnifying glass got stuck under the altar and we couldnt retrieve it, but it is an interesting map!

Yeah, I was stumped for sweet (pumpkin juice? peppermint? Rose petals?) and acrid which google says means "bitter or pungent". Bile is (apparently) bitter, alkaline. Vinegar is sour, acidic, the exact opposite. There being so many ingredients, I couldn't tell which step was incorrect. Here's me wondering if troll snot is sweet or bitter.

The "full" animation made me think I was getting the sweet line wrong. Turns out I had one too many ingredients because I thought the water line was two separate ingredients.

Damn - the mirror was sitting on top of the chest when I inserted the sword and fell behind it.
I removed the sword but the chest did not close so I could not get it.

I enjoyed the room, well made and a nice atmosphere. A Soundtrack would go a long way towards making it even better.

Some issues:
Peppermint is not really sweet unless sugar is added. Pumpkin juice is, though.
Essence of spider's feast (fly blood) is on the list, but not in the walkthrough.
The telescope can be opened by clicking on the lens cover without solving the lock.
Entering letters in the spellbook is quite fidgety. I really wish they were a little bigger.

Hey mirandamnb17, thank you for the feedback. This wasn't a bug I could recreate in the editor nor in my playing of the room. Feel free to send me a private message to see if I can deduce the issue :)

Thank you so much danidiva and sdbpost for the feedback and I'm really happy you liked it :)

I kept getting glitches when attempting to mix the potions. I would click once to put the item in the pot and it would fill the pot up all the way.

thank you for updating it! I only had to try two combinations before getting it :-) great fun room!

Still was stuck on the last two ingredients, particularly the next to last, until checking your message. Otherwise a great room!

Hey everyone, thank you so much for your comments. I've updated the room by changing some of the ingredient names, ideally making it less ambiguous. I've also fixed the walk-through for real this time. I was unaware that the game truncates lines that are too long, as such I've split some lines up using ellipses. Thank you again for your kindness and your feedback, I've definitely learned a lot from this and I'm looking forward to making more rooms :steamhappy:

For anyone who also struggling with the potion order:

1-Ground Humerus
2-Phoenix Tears
3-Coagulated Fly blood
4-Holy Water
5-Octopus ink
6-Sloth
7-Peppermint
8-Vinegar
danidiva Apr 8, 2023 @ 7:45am
same, got stuck on the potions. My issue is the ambiguity of the clues. I tried probably 15 different permutations before giving up. I also don't think the hint is right, bc they are supposed to be top to bottom - that would mean Holy Water is the answer to the essence of a spider's feast (#3) rather than drops of water, undead's bane (#4). So assuming the dev missed ingredient #3, the only 2 that would work (IMHO) are Tarantula's Venom, or Coagulated Fly Blood.

But also, ingredient #7 could be the wine or eggnog, and ingredient #8 could be vinegar or sardines, or like literally anything else. Again, too many of the available ingredients could match the clue leaving way too many permutations to test. I don't mind a little ambiguity, and trying to figure out maybe 1 or 2 ingredients but until I clicked the hint, I wouldn't have thought of octopus ink for deep blackened sea night's stain.

Otherwise, this is an very well designed room!

I like this idea, although I got stuck at the potions (couldn't seem to get the last three right).

I think that the in-game walkthrough hasn't been fully fixed: It's a bug with the new hint system itself where a hint can't be too long otherwise it cuts off.
The potion ingredients hint either needs less words or to be split into 2+ hints.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I've updated the room with your recommendations. Really appreciate your help and kindness :steamhappy:

Great job! Perhaps our conversation below will 'fix' the problem for most folks (although the walkthru should be corrected) LOL. Can't wait to see your next creation:steamthumbsup::eskey:
ezKill42 Apr 3, 2023 @ 10:36am
Ah, so...First: card placement not really a prob, the darkness was. Somehow it's brighter now and just fine! 2nd: It might be good to communicate somehow (maybe with just a sound) that the handle is ready &/or have a simpler reset mechanism (other than putting 8 and then using handle). BUT, the real problem is in your walkthru when you press escape. It only lists five ingredients! (I woulda been better off not giving up so soon on the potion puzzle:steamfacepalm:) Now I go back and see if I can complete. Thanx
Doosran  [author] Apr 3, 2023 @ 9:25am
Thank you for your comment ezKill42 :steamhappy: I'll definitely have a re-think of the card placements and make the books static, one of my friends did do a max exodus of them into the bin when they first played it XD As for the bellows, it only works once 8 ingredients have been put into the cauldron, that's something I should definitely make more clear :)
ezKill42 Apr 1, 2023 @ 9:59pm
I'm intrigued but keep getting stuck. 1st time: was my fault - just couldn't find that last card. If you made them easier to see it wouldn't make me feel bad:) 2nd time: Your bellows appears broke. At no time did I see it active - the handle never works. Also: I wouldn't be unhappy if you made the books on the bookshelf static - too many things are pickable:) I look forward to my 3rd try:steamhappy:
