This guy has the best ideas, but can't seem to take them into completion. I can relate...

I don't see my dwarf holding his cold iron pickaxe, glitch?
Benstorm 6 JUN 2023 a las 13:33

@Lowoon Harm
No, cold iron might melt if it's too close to a fire. Orichalcum also isn't magma safe, but mithril is. Cold iron's ease of forging and moderate value make it pretty good for crafts, though.
Lowoon Harm 14 FEB 2023 a las 8:48
quick question: is cold iron (or anny of these metals) magma-safe? (i'm guessing not?) got a lot of cold iron, and i'm wondering if i can build my corkscrews for the lava pumpstack out of it.

Aaaah. Ok tyvm!

@Shayle Thorne
Yeah, the new metals aren't based on ores so they don't show up in the ore finder. They are generally found anywhere, however. Ironically, you can search for orichalcum because the slag is considered an ore even though it doesn't exist naturally.

Ive been trying to use this with all your other mods, and some UI mods. It works... as in it loads... but I cant see any new metals when embarking. Is that normal?

@Imlsna
Interesting, I've heard it's not super impactful but I've also heard that slade blunt weapons are still disproportionately effective thanks to their density. Grey adamant is nearly that dense, so I presumed it would have similar effects. If there's another factor, I could adjust for that, though having it be primarily used to make absurdly lethal traps is still acceptable, as it's not exactly a common alloy.
lmlsna 4 FEB 2023 a las 12:22
Unfortunately, super-high densities don't actually do a whole lot for blunt weapons, according to both my testing and the momentum formula for attacks provided by the DF wiki. This is due to a steep diminishing of returns: the effect on attack momentum from increasing density from 100 to 1,000 is vastly more significant than the effect of increasing density from 1,000 to even something as high as 100,000,000. There is a place where high density really shines though, and that is with traps: where weight is the only variable in determining attack momentum.

Oh, thanks! I'll fix that asap.

Also the skill is "EXTRACT_STRAND" not "STRAND_EXTRACTOR" for the THREAD_ORICHALCUM reaction.

@KM.One
It's slag is technically considered an ore, so if you search for it you'll get no results but it's automatically added to the search options.

Hi, great mod. I was just wondering why Orichalcum shows up as a metal under the "find embark location"? It looks like you can only make it, so it should not be naturally generated.
