@vampiresbane thanks for pointing that out. I may get around to playing with the display values/colours of some of the metals in the future. I was working on another mod that altered some color palettes but it never quite worked correctly.

I'll take a look at the thread you recommended, and if you do make a guide or want to contribute to the mod with regards to the colour I'll make sure you get the credit.

The other option is to make a standalone mod that fixes the colors of some of these metals (some are so rare that I doubt people ever make even a single bar of them, which is probably why they don't have a unique or correct color palette)

I came up with a fix sort of. It requires altering a lot of vanilla files. I may write a guide on how to do it, but this thread gives the gist of the results. Short version, it's not this mod's fault that black bronze does not display, it's a vanilla issue.

@Propagating I found a graphics issue. Black bronze sprites when worn are not black. More of a gold color.

This mod works really well. Imo it should be implemented in vanilla.

Convenient.

Honestly, the majority of the buff here is in blunt weapons and ammo. Edged weapons should use steel, same with armor, it's just better. If you don't have steel, Black Bronze is better than bronze, nickel silver might be okay as well.

How good are most of these metals as armor? Black bronze would be interesting to make as a "Black Knight" getup.

I know solid density affects how well blunt weapons do, but for weapons that need to hold an edge like swords, spears and stuff, how well do most of these do compared to iron or bronze? I don't know how to measure if a material is good for sharp weapons without making the weapons.

@Johnny John Johnson

Yes, it should absolutely support mods that add weapons/armor/ammo/pickaxes/ranged weapons. The way the game assigns a material to a category is on the material config, not the weapon. So as long as someone made something part of the 'weapon' category with the right tag, then it will support this mod.

Does this combine with mods that unlock exotic weapons like mauls or scimitars for crafting with dwarves?

Finally I can have my platinum warhammers. SMASH

Lead Bolts puncture literally anything and as a junk material you'd be silly not to use them.

Just a note to anyone who is wondering about the actual effects of enabling making weaponry out of alternative metals: In general, most metals will pale in comparison to equivalent weapons made from iron/copper/steel, but in the case of warhammers and maces, weight/density is one of the most important factors, making a lead/gold/platinum warhammer/mace one of the absolute best materials to make one out of.

I don't know of a way to add any mod to an existing world since they are enabled at world gen.
Iron 22. dec. 2022 kl. 9:40
Does this require a brand dew world to be generated, or can it be applied to existing saves

The mod doesn't change material properties, it only enables crafting from those materials by adding the following tags to the objects:

[ITEMS_WEAPON]
[ITEMS_AMMO]
[ITEMS_WEAPON_RANGED]
[ITEMS_DIGGER]
[ITEMS_ARMOR]

Your dwarves could have just gotten unlucky, armor doesn't guarantee success, it just makes them less likely to die from tripping over a rock.

2 mace-dwarfs+shileds in ≡[Steel]≡ eqp.very easy failed in fight vs
1 doomed human spearman+shield in full «[Black bronze]» eqp

All was a competent in their combat skills, traits also was the same strong/tough am i do somthing wrong or black bronze is somehow > steel? Or its just doomed enemies is OP in sinister regions?
Or its can be a bug caused by mod?

Ah, very fair.

The issue with the first version of the mod caused the affected metals to change at world gen, and caused some very odd behaviour in those worlds because the metals could not be used for anything, andtheir material properties were messed up. This basically broke forgotten beasts and titans made of various metals.

That's why I recommended deleting the 1.0 version of the mod manually as well as the save. It's a non-issue moving forward, but for the few users that had 1.0 , it's best to have it uninstalled.

You can make mods update properly in-game by increasing the numeric version to a higher number, e.g. 1 to 2. There's no need to delete installed mods.
