Also it does need deformation mod as without it the contraption will not load in.

Yeah so actually impossible, no matter what you use. Due to jank in the game regarding high powered engines no matter what you do if the person is under the main lazer and the lazer is close he will die even with the entire space inbetween filled with several layers of frozen blocks. The only way to do this is to offset the person to the right or left of the main laser but then destructible blocks will be destroyed. If a destructible block can live 99.9% of the time it means the character can live without any protection.

Also I dont think you actually need the deformation mod for it. I just made it with the deformation mod, but the entire structure doesn't have any modded parts.

Yes, the structure has to be destructible.
