yeah, that's been an issue with a number of shipset mods, defaulting to biological vs mechanical. idk what was doing it, though. so was planning to look after work-- though, to be fair, this SHOULD be a biological one, really. just need to work it out a bit.

as of the last update (4.0.2) this mod starts in the biological area of the shipsets (new split - mechanical (requires alloys for upkeep) biological (requires food). Thought you should know

lol, my issue has always been that where they add more weapons slots i've always been one to think that actual weapon slots for a ship should reflect that actual ship.

vorlon and shadows both have basically one weapon port, and though you can slot a few in that one spot (like 1 large, 2 medium firing from the same place) I've always been more in favor of instead keeping slots more limited and increasing rate of fire and power for those slots.

earth force for instance, has a lot of different ship designs and models and you could easily fill up all those new ship sizes with designs, but it's not like every empire is gonna be the same. and if they are then to me it's kind of boring. everyone just has access to the same things, no advantages or disadvantages.

*the caveat, if I can i'd like to find a way to condition it on if you have the dlc. so that those who don't can still use the same mod. but for those who do, they will use them as organic ships

Now that we're getting biological ships, do you have any plans to adapt the Vorlon shipset to make it biological? It would be cool to see Vorlon cruisers grow larger and evolve to become battleships the way that the show hinted at them doing.

there honestly aren't a lot of models for vorlon.

and really I've been leaning in the opposite direction, to match ship sections with cannon weapons as closely as i can. for vorlon that would mean just a few forward facing energy weapons, but likely something like increased fire rate to compensate.

oh, god. the AI is killing me on that, lol. bogged down in getting the AI to actually use things properly.

also doesn't help that paradox itself broke things-- the AI/auto builder for ships no longer uses aux components. which is pretty frustrating for a mod that uses a lot of aux components.

have been looking over new content to see if anything would be impacted, but nothing i see would. mostly I think it's all the race mods that are going to be broken for a while. but, this and other shipsets should be fine. so hasn't been my top priority (unless there's an issue)

shouldn't be any conflicts with recent updates, which is why I've been a bit slow to update. though, if I'm wrong on that let me know if there's something wrong and I can update. I've been a bit distracted trying to get new megas to freaking build modules and buildings. so haven't been paying too much attention.

the mod itself is more about diversity: each empire potentially using different weapons and defense/support techs-- each with unique graphics and sound-- favoring different ship sizes and mixes of fleet. so not only does each empire feel more unique, but you are less sure about going to war with other empires (what weapons are they using? will my ships hold up well against them? what about their defenses?).

But, I wanted it to be usable with shipset mods. so I've been building in comparability patches for mine and others. it also led me to add whitestar ships to vorlon for the mod, so early on when you're using semi-organic armor you're using whitestar. and then as you progress you'll unlock full organic ships (vorlon ships).

it's all very involved, lol... but, slowly making progress. hoping to have it up in the next few months as a v1.

Ahh! If you need help working out lore things I'd be super down, but otherwise I look forward to seeing it. I've basically been working on a "DIY conversion" with zero coding (as I have no idea). Making a list with myriad mods that taken together work extremely well. I've made....a lot of custom civs, and been trying to best represent alpha/beta canon. I've made the Vorlons (and the Walkers, ish) an FE, and tried to get the Shadows as close to a crisis as I can.

not this shipset specifically, no.

it's a much larger mod I've been working on that adds a lot of techs for B5, star trek, star wars, and that old game master of orion-- all down mutually exclusive tech paths (tied to shipset, so you'll get the cannon weapons/techs of the shipset you're using). as part of that I resized and re-balanced ships, adding a lot of new hulls and ship sizes. both so size comparisons better reflect cannon size differences, and so ships better match their cannon weapons and such.

it made sense, as part of that, to give new techs to the fallen empires-- and I wanted to diversify their ship look and feel while I was at it. so plan is to add vorlon and shadow maybe as new fallen empires, one militarist and the other authoritarian (b/c lets face it, the vorlons were pretty authoritarian).

the issue, b/c this is something I'm doing atm, is that FE have fewer ships and different ship sizes than normal empires. so the easiest way would be to re-write the gfx file in the ship graphics folder so that it refers to your model and not the vanilla model.

though, just doing that the weapons wouldn't fire from right spot and such.

While I'm here, would you happen to know how to make a fallen empire use this shipset? I'm using an origin mod to have Vorlons as an FE, but they default to the FE shipset. I assume it'd involve labelling some ship models as the unique FE classes. e.g. "battlecruiser".

so i didn't have same issue, BUT that could just be because I have a premade species that already uses vorlon shipset, so it's forcing it to appear. idk.

a possible solution though, I just combined the earth force and vorlon shipsets into one mod and set it to only be visible to firends (and sent friend request). so try this mod, which just combines the two. and maybe just combining them together will help. idk. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2990751743

is this with the new version? i saw that they'd had new content released since I took a break, but didn't think it'd be anything that would interfere with shipset mods.

at any rate, I'm on day 2 of a 5 day break from work, so after I rest today I was planning on getting back into modding here. I can check to see if things are working and all that.

your issue though, it sounds like you're saying the game is crashing at startup?

Eh, work has just sucked lately-- a lot of late nights and weekend work (including this weekend). So just been taking a break until this stupid busy period ends. Hard to get in the mood or concentrate when I'm answering teams messages every 5min, even on a Saturday.
