i dont know if its because of this mod but ever since i downloaded it, my game has been running a lot slower and crashing. maybe its uncompatible with some other mods. does anyone know if there is a feature which can anylize which mods are causing problems?

I also am wondering about the relevance of this mod given the console changes... I do use it still though to cut far away down to much blur. Or so I think. Do I dare touch it instead of trying to fix it if it doesn't appear broken..? Decisions decisions...

Ideas about the down loading... If you are using the Steam Workshop from inside the game window, it is a possible cause to your woes. I haven't had it work proper yet. Just today it stalls on 1 of 7... So I go to Steam to see what's what after closing the game.

Well. I have all 7 downloaded. They are already there. It wasn't stalled, it was done. Don't know what the mod window in the game was on, but I'd like some... ?B)

I have had big problems with lag even do i have a very good computer. It seems like i have solved the problem in 2 differrent steps. 1. I use this mod and it helped at least to make the game playable. I would say it run 95 % perfect after this mod on my megalomaniac map game. 2. I have adjusted my FPS on my graphic card AMD Radeon RX 6800XT. It orginally was 60 FPS and adjusted it to 120, later to 180 as a test without seeing difference from 120. The game now run 99.9% perfect and i have 28000 inhabitants,540 trains, close to 1000 trucks and trams combined.

You can use it with the most recent version no problem. However, try not to use bridge mods, or disable presets in settings.
As for my fixes, I uploaded them to my GitLab, and sent a message with full description to @okeating a few days ago. I suppose they are busy, or maybe just missed the notification.

I made a massive fix for this mod. If not by line count, but certainly by impact. It should fix all the issues this mod had caused. It also slightly changes the scale factor behavior.
It probably isn't right for me to publish it, even with full credit written everywhere, because the main idea is the same. So I guess I could send you my version somehow for you to update this mod?

Had some problems before with low fps and no way to play humongous maps ...
After found your mod, I play those huge maps not only without any low fps, but most of the time I play at highest fast-forward speed :

There is an issue with the rendering of Trees, I have noticed this too. It seems as if the initial modifications do not apply, then on (re) loading a save in the same game instance appears to result in it "remembering" the previous setting. I don't know why this is and may be a bug in the underlying TPF2 code.

If you experience crashes please give a snippet of your logs otherwise I have no hope of being able to fix.

Are you still supporting this mod? It seems that it has some incompatibility with the new version off the game and the changes in memory management introduced.

With your mod active I got better FPS and less stutter, but the game crashes sometimes when moving too far or too fast around the map. The game freezes, then consume all available ram and gets locked. Only way to leave is terminating the process.

@author: I have the same system you have. Of course I'm using your mod which helps a bit.
I also have a mega size map game, with at least 100 cities and 845 vehicles. Great game, lot going on, zillions of passengers, but also very slow and laggy. To me you're an authority if it comes to performance, since you've done research and made a mod. Do you think there is a way to make the game run smooth again? Buy more RAM perhaps? Something else? (with optimal state as it is as the start of a new game)

Is there any way to increase the render distance of trees?

Even at the highest settings, trees do not render apart from directly below the camera when zoomed out, leading to loads of pop-in. Even if they just rendered at minimal LOD without shadows that'd be preferable, even with some FPS loss.

This is a great mod, but does it maybe have some config files that might have more granular options than the mod settings in game?

this mod is literally a godsend. I get something like a 50fps improvement with this mod installed. I CAN PLAY WITH THE GRASS TURNED ON NOW!

Doesnt work for me. I can start the game, but all buttons in the main-menu are grey. I cant click any button, also the "Exit"-Button! I need to close the game via tast-manager!
After deleting this mod evrything is fine again.

what an amazing script! when i rotated the camera to a fully horizontal perspective in my extra large and built up map, my fps dropped to 15 previously, now they are at 80-90. graphics card usage was low before and is now slightly higher, seems like the game now makes better use of my gpu.

Is there a way to produce a usefull log for you?
I got the odd problem that the game "pauses" every no wand then, like when its doing an autosave. Everything stops moving and responding for a few seconds. This happens aproximatly every 2 to 6 minutes.

Great work, mate. Using this mod I almost get double (20 -> 40 FPS) FPS in my heavily built map.
Might I just suggest renaming the mod to something like "Performance Tuning / FPS Booster" or "Performance Tuning / More FPS".

I was looking for something like this for a long time but couldn't find anything. Most people looking for something like this will search for "FPS Boost" Mods or something like that.
"Performance tuning" is a rather specific phrase which makes the mod hard to be found on the Steam Workshop.

Vanilla settings on this mod, actually increased my gpu usage a slight amount. No notice in reduction of cpu or gpu usage.

idk whether its my savegame or the mod. but when I enable it, it will crash randomly out of the blue. when I disable it, everything seems fine. From stdout.txt it throws the following:

@okeating when I activate this mod, trees are not being rendered anymore when I zoom out. The forests become brown patches of ground. Is this the way you meant the mod to behave? I would like to keep seeing the trees, which of the settings could be responsible for this?

I've solved the Problem, in additional with NEP Mod there was a crash, when I set the NEP to load position 1 it works fine :)

If you are experiencing a game crash then please could you provide a list of mods you are trying to load with? It is very likely caused by an interaction with another mod and I can only fix if I can reproduce the problem.

With your mod my savegame keep crashing every time external window tries to pop up (save notification, vehicle info, etc.). Is this problem coming from my side, or there is any incompatibilities? The only performance-affecting things i loaded is NEP2, closer render distance for objects to not to clip up ten meters away from camera, and your mod that is last in load order . Anyway, even with this little problem (that costs me around 20mins to load save again lol) i noticed great performance boost, so great job!

Works quite well, especially on huge endgame-maps. A little CPU-induced stutter remains, but overall the game runs much smoother... (for specs see my profile). I can only recommend this mod.

This mod is a must if youre running big/experimental maps and going FAR into the future. My northeast corridor map worked alright before but with this mod, the NYC area with 7 seperate cities runs much much better.

Die Sichtweiten ist auf Kartengrößen wie Größenwahn sehr störend und spart bei mir nur 20GB RAM ein von 112 GB bei normalen laden. Werde Sichtweiten größer 10 km probieren. Systeme die Ausreichend Speicher haben sind 20 GB Ersparnis nicht relevant, wer 256 GB RAM installiert hat. Die Prozessorleistung ist schon da eine Einsparungen von über 50% möglich. Bei einen i9-10980 XE ohne dieses Programm CPU-Last von 59% wird mit auf 26% reduziert. Allerdings sind das Extreme Karten mit 1007 Mods aktiviert und nicht für jeden Rechner geeignet. Durch die anderen Parameter lässt sich das bestimmt auch noch für solche Karten anpassen.

I have been stuck running TPF2 on a otherwise fairly good system but have a potato for a video card. For the past 2 years I have been stuck playing small maps and learned to be cautious about loading mods. But, now, with you tweaks to the game's graphical engine I am playing large maps, something I never thought this Geforce GT 730 could handle. Thank-you is a pale thanks, you deserve much better thanks than words alone.
