Adoption Options

tried this mod in an existing game so didn't have access to game rules, but I added the shared fertility for cultural tenet. The option is there to find a donor for adoption but my wife considers this a betrayal of our marriage vows or something and I'll be hit with a -30 opinion for like 20 years for doing it. Found it odd that this was going to happen even by presenting the suggestion to her. My other option is the orphanage adoption, not tried that one yet.

If people want, they can let me know and I can start leaving the translations to whichever mod they want (using AI)
AlfaRojo Nov 1 @ 3:44pm
I did the translation of the mod from English to Spanish, it's on this GitHub ( https://github.com/Alfarojo25/Traduccion-Mod-Adoption-Options-CK3 ) , you could extract it for your mod and update it

@SalahadDin reading is a valuable life school. I highly recommend it

I've been working on an overhaul of the mod. I was hoping to get it out before AUH, but unfortunately I have not had the time. As AUH is likely to break a lot of my mods and I still have to finish the updates I have planned for adoption legitimacy, orphanages, and adventure adoptions (plus more traditions and tenets affecting adoptions); so this mod will likely take some time after AUH releases to be updated. Sorry for the inconvenience in advance
SalahadDin Oct 29 @ 6:40am
I love this mod so much. Could the you update it to version 1.8?
pengoyo  [author] Oct 23 @ 12:22pm
@RainbowYeti Thanks, and that's a feature I've been meaning to add (also useful for my own debugging). I'm thinking of adding it to the memory system
RainbowYeti Oct 23 @ 10:06am
@pengoyo take your time, also just a thought but could you add in a section to see who the original parents are for an adopted child pls?

@RainbowYeti Thanks, I'll look into it
RainbowYeti Sep 25 @ 5:40pm
hey, you may have overlooked this but when i adopt a child within my dynasty, her liege isn't me but her original liege so she actually got betrothed to someone without me knowing, shows me n my wife as her parents tho
Royal Coyote Sep 21 @ 3:43am
Ill test for sure

The chinese language is disabled

@Royal Coyote I do not know, though this mod does not change the core tenant file, so I'd hazard to guess they are compatible
Royal Coyote Sep 20 @ 8:44pm
Does this conflict with tenants expanded and such
pengoyo  [author] Jul 14 @ 12:43pm
@the Duke of Hickster I'm not familiar with the mod, so if someone else has made a compatch for the mods, it's best to contact them. If you have a specific conflict point I might be able to help, but no promises as some compatibility difficulties cannot be fixed on my end. Also you could try changing the load order to see if that helps with compatibility
the Duke of Hickster Jul 13 @ 9:01am
Hello, currently having compatibility issues with RUI:Unofficial (and Rank&File.) I thought that AO had been compatched with RUI but something changed. Anyways, hoping to see compatibility with RUI please. Adoption Options is basically the one mod I cannot play without now haha
pengoyo  [author] Jul 7 @ 12:09pm
@finallyciv Thanks so much, I'll definitely link it
finallyciv Jul 7 @ 6:17am
I have translated your mod into German (AI assisted) and added the localization to my translation mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3355568022

Of course, you can extract the files and add them to your own mod, or include a link to the mod in your description — or do neither. As you wish!

@pengoyo ah I see, havnt played for a couple of months so I was definitely misremembering it, thank you, makes total sense :)
pengoyo  [author] Jun 25 @ 10:34pm
@Lemon It has been that way since Adventures came out. It's partially because the mod works under different rules than the base game for adoption. But also because Adventures don't have their own adoption criteria currently
Lemon Jun 22 @ 1:28pm
I think the mod didn't use to restrict this interaction for landless adventurers before Khans of the Steppe came out, but I am not sure if I'm misremembering this, since I usually use A New Sensible family to generate some siblings for my character, so it might not have come up at all.
Lemon Jun 22 @ 1:28pm
Hey, when playing as landless in vanilla you can adopt any camp follower as successor regardless of their age and gender for 150 prestige (they start a new cadet branch in your dynasty). With the mod active this interaction seems to be restricted to whatever your religion allows, which can be a bit inconvenient if you haven't yet started your own religion (I prefer not to use the game rule to make the player starting religion more lenient on adoptions). Just wanting to ask if this is an intentional change or a consequence of the mod messing with adoptions in general.

Steps to reproduce: start as a landless adventurer with and without the mod active, use the character interaction "adopt as successor" on one of your starting camp followers to test. I used Ash'ari for testing this but shouldn't matter which you use.
pengoyo  [author] Jun 18 @ 10:30am
@Quaaaid Thanks! Yes, I do want to give adventures something like it, but with their own twist. I just haven't had time to build a new mechanic
Quaaaid Jun 17 @ 2:52pm
Fantastic mod, thank you! Would it be possible to allow Adventurers to visit the orphanages?
pengoyo  [author] Jun 13 @ 10:11am
@mlgprocupcake I can see about enabling something, though no promises as it directly clashes with how the doctrines work. Though do note, that the AI already does prefer to adopt nobles and specifically family when possible, just like in Rome (though how the game works, it is hard to balance this with the use of the Visit Orphanage decision). Also note, while Romans did definitely prefer to adopt those of the same social status, Romans could and did sometimes adopt non-nobles (even slaves)
mlgprocupcake Jun 12 @ 1:20pm
can you add a setting where only highborns can be adopted as was the case in rome? thanks
pengoyo  [author] Jun 8 @ 6:11pm
The "You are busy finding someone to adopt" seems to be caused by the using the Find Character to Adopt button in the character window; then that adoption window being closed without triggering the window closing code. If you have any information on what you did leading up to the bug that would be helpful.

That said I have added a potential fix for it to the mod (though cannot confirm as I cannot reproduce the bug). Additionally the bug can now be cleared by going to the in game pause menu (just that act of opening the in game pause menu is now enough to clear the bug)
ZipperGore Jun 7 @ 7:10pm
Somehow missed the latest messages. It fixes itself after accessing marriage menu in Divine Intervention cheat mod.
ZipperGore Jun 7 @ 2:35pm
I have the same "You are busy finding someone to adopt" problem, Can't betroth or marry anyone. I just misclicked the adoption button, didn't see any event, 5 years has passed.
@pengoyo yeah i think i mightve done that, anyways ive already managed to fix it with an cheat mod, i read that its also a basegame issue so ig they gotta fix that soon lol.
pengoyo  [author] May 27 @ 1:37pm
@Didi Mocó Do you have any information on what happened leading up to that? Did you somehow abort an Visit an Orphanage Decision? Note it will time out in 5 years time
yo, i think the mod is a bit broken, i cant select anything else playing as temujin, it keeps saying "you are too busy finding someone to adopt"
pengoyo  [author] May 7 @ 10:47am
@finallyciv I'll check, but no promises (though I always welcome people to create compatch mods between my mods and others)

@-EoT.KurLumiN As already mentioned, an updated is in the works
-EoT.KurLumiN May 7 @ 6:18am
is it possible to update the mod to 1.16.1
finallyciv May 4 @ 1:15am
@pengoyo, could you please make your great mod compatible with the In My Humble Opinion mod?
pengoyo  [author] Apr 29 @ 8:48pm
@JayJ No worries, an update is in the works. Note performance should be better if all adoptions are disabled (or just playing a game with few faith/cultures that are able to adopt). Though personally, I don't have any performance problems, and I only have a somewhat decent computer. I don't know of any title granting problems, but if they are reported to me I can try to solve them
pengoyo  [author] Apr 29 @ 8:42pm
@ancientlover712 Sorry, I do not play the AGOT mod, so I do not know how compatible the mod is
JayJ Apr 28 @ 2:59pm
Hi pengoyo thank you for your quick answer! I appreciate it. The only reason why I am asking really is to limit potential game issues as I saw others reporting that there are issues with the current mod version ranging from titles not being granted to performance issues which is why I thought a light version might be a good idea. But again thanks for your honest and fast response! Please let us know when you had the time to update the mod especially with the new version just being released today! :).
ancientlover712 Apr 28 @ 9:51am
Yay, I've been waiting for this to update! I play AGOT primarily and I've been wanting to add this to my playlist, but there was an issue where it would break up dragonrider bonds with their dragons and they would be treated like courtiers. Will that still be an issue?
pengoyo  [author] Apr 28 @ 9:00am
@Jayj Sorry, but no. The shared fertility and the other adoptions use many of the same mechanics and interfaces. So splitting them would require duplicating and maintaining most of the mod twice, which is too much work (and little would be gained into terms of compatibility). If you don't want the other adoptions, you can use the game rule to disable adoptions (it does not affect shared fertility).
JayJ Apr 28 @ 8:14am
Hi, thank you for this mod it's an amazing addition! Do you have or would you be able to share a version that just includes the Shared Fertility feature for same sex couples? So without the other additional adoption options? This would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time 🙂
pengoyo  [author] Apr 7 @ 12:29pm
@Saltfish Sounds good, I can take a look at the code.

I've thought about a list of all children, but it's a lot of code and performance cost for something for something that rarely matters and that ultimately is showing something the game no longer actually respects (after they've died there is no passing of the titles through that character). Plus a lot of edge cases have to be ironed out to prevent bugs (lists changing due to birth, adoption, exposing secret children, etc). And it's only something that temporarily works, as on the death of the character holding the list, it would all disappear (and global lists just increase the performance costs). Not saying I'll never look into improving it. But there are definitely system more in need of improvement with a much larger effect on the game
Saltfish Apr 6 @ 5:03pm
about counting children in UI, a list tracking all children/adopted children/dead adopted children will work;
about tracking the dead, there is a cursed wizardry using story as a dict to do so, but I'm not sure if it will cause a performance issue
Saltfish Apr 6 @ 1:21pm
(but the marriage type icons, as there is no capsulation for them, I have to copy related script to show them)
Saltfish Apr 6 @ 1:15pm
yeah it is a single file and basically no need to update
pengoyo  [author] Apr 6 @ 11:14am
@Saltfish Thanks, but I do not use RUI:Character or know how it works, so it would be better to keep it separate (unless it just requires just a couple lines of code that I'm unlikely to need to update)
pengoyo  [author] Apr 6 @ 11:08am
@Saltfish It's because I ran into a host of problems when trying to display character windows with multiple non-adopted children, multiple alive adopted children, and multiple dead adopted children. But getting one dead adopted child to show I could do while avoiding those problems (problems with the expand window logic and portraits displaying properly). There probably is a way to get it to work on the gui side, but it has never been high priority for me (especially as dead characters cannot have lists and ultimately I want a system that works after everyone involved is dead)
Saltfish Apr 6 @ 4:23am
I've made a compatch for this mod and RUI:Character Unofficial, would you like to integrate it?
Saltfish Apr 6 @ 3:23am
and a whole list for all adoptive children no matter alive or dead is easier to track in script
Saltfish Apr 6 @ 2:12am
dead adoptive child is a variable, but a character can have mutiple adoptive children if I didn't misunderstand the script?
a list is better if so, otherwise it only record latest dead one.
