there is real world version of swarmer missiles, the british Starstreak as well as mirv warhead, but those both are semi swarm where they fire as a single missile and split closer to the target

@QualityPen On the whole I agree with you. Although, there several technologies that are kinda like swarming missiles. The payload of many nuclear systems (ICBMS) have multiple warheads meaning that the last stage of flight has several equal payloads flying at the target. While the initial launch is a single missile, the enemy is indeed faced with a barrage of missiles.

Most modern swarming of missiles is usually conducted using a combination of systems. A few days a go a Storm Shadow hit a Russian ammo depot. However, it has been launched in combination with other more visible missiles as to detract the attention of missile defense systems. So the enemy does see a swarm of missiles and has to react to that.

@DmitriyAgra As far as I know, there is no such thing as modern swarming missiles, of any sort. There are multiple launch rocket systems and there are turreted close-in point defense missiles like Sea Sparrow, but neither of these are anything like the swarm missiles in this game.

It's easier to make a missile stealthier or faster to penetrate air defenses than it is to make a swarm of small missiles with the same range and performance of a larger missile. America uses the semi-stealthy Long Range Anti Ship Missile (LRASM) and Russia uses the hypersonic Zircon. Nobody uses swarm missiles.

great mod, noticed that it conflicts extensively with refined weapons. if its placed below then it destroys all weapon stats (0 range 1 dmg) if its placed above then there are no VLS models, just the vanilla missile racks

Honestly, no. That's a innovative mod, but I found out that mod doesn't go well with many shipsets, like Aquatics or Lithoids. And I don't like any mods that adds new components.

Yes that's really true.
And for now, by the recent change in the hull/armor regeneration mechanism [forum.paradoxplaza.com], ASB distorts battles, with regeneration in a tremendous rate, overwhelming the dps at all.
I basically against the change, but for now anyway, I cannot recommend ASB anymore. ASB ironman is fine.

The problem is that the shipset mod you're using doesn't set the proper turret positions. Please check it out.

I am not sure if its NSC2 or some other mod but for my own ships the missiles come out of the sun. as in the missiles spawn in the sun or at least the middle of the star system then track towards the target.

Love this idea, vertical launch systems make more sense to me. Forward facing or even side facing missile tubes run the risk of direct hits, while top mounted can be more protected. I know these are not an actual game mechanic, but still nice to have some visual changes.

What you concern is correct and good point. I made some test before I upload this mod, and concluded that the effect is only on GFX, and the true missile object trajectory was just a line. And PD/FLAK were also able to shoot down the missiles at their 'rising' stages.
BTW, I'm a kind of balance modder , so if that was a problem I wouldn't have made this mod. Anyway, I do thank you very much for your concern.

Just tried this with Wayfarer missiles from Sensible Late-Game Tech and the VTO seems to work correctly already -- maybe that mod uses vanilla components which are already enhanced?

Attack Moon ("lunar battery") missiles did not VTO, though. They seem to use a "swarmer"-style model.

For those wondering. It does bode well with BSW3/ASB Combined. And if you're using ESC components and anything that adds add extra components/slots to ships. It will still work like a charm, as long as this mod is loaded after BSW3/ASB/ESC/ (Any other ship modifying mod).

All in all, this a superb mod and fell in love with it! :scWitch:

This looks awesome, cant wait to build fleets full of macross style missle spam.

Does this effect PD effectiveness in any way? Does the new angle of attack make it harder for PD weapons to intercept missiles?

It's incredible how the stellaris team decided on the derpiest cartoonish models for space warships. Specifically wrt weapon size relative to spaceship. The surface area footprint of the missile turret is so much greater than the launch tube turrets in the game.
