Yeah, that's just a thing the game does. All suspension/piston objects will orientate themselves the same way, you just don't notice it with the base game stuff because they're so close to be symmetrical.
But as stated, you can get around this with the Weld Tool.

They work amazing! Just playing around with then,, they look amazing and function well too..!
..Thing is.. The torsion suspenison seems to want to point in a single direction when placed directly into your creations.. It works by welding tho
