Would you mind if I made a patch for this and Mhramnaroth to make them use the fungoid and mammalian phenotypes, respectively? It would just be a patch for people who wanted it that they could load alongside this mod.

I'm actually uninstalling this mod BECAUSE it doesn't put the new species in the fungoid class with the other fungoids. To me that is an indication the mod is poorly made; "All seems to run fine but the error log throws a new errors I have not figured out yet." - that's not exactly an encouraging sign.

I think the best solution is to make a new mod with the fungoid race in the fungoid class, and let people migrate from this mod to that mod.

I mean fair, but so does almost every major Stellaris update so you could time it to coincide with one of them.

@ Gloria Minge: Have you looked in the error.log or other log files in documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\logs ? Usually that tells you where things go wrong.

I don't consider myself a good coder, these two portrait mods are litteraly the only thing I've ever coded and put on the internet, I only got half a clue what I'm doing. I know however that there is a community on discord that is helping modders out, the stellaris modding den, if I'm not mistaken. They might be able to help out.

Good point. Those fungoid specific traits have been added somewhere along the line, and I've never thought of making the Mucor compatible. I'll look into it, but I'm actually working on a new race as well.

Having abandoned the work around route for 3.7, I would like to add one last feedback :
If at all possible (I couldn't get it to work myself so maybe it's not), I think it would be nice to have those little guys considered as actual Fungoids since right now as their own "Mucor" species, we can't select some species specific traits such as Budding, etc..

So, to add to my previous message, being VERY stubborn in my idea to make this mod work with achievements, I first tried to merge the mod files with the game files (with no knowledge about how the file structure works), adding the corresponding entries in all the Fungoid files.
I just wanted to know if it would make a difference for the game if this mod was a choice listed in this category, but unfortunately, I couldn't get it to show up.
I then tried to rename the respective files of an existing Fungoid so that it would load the assets of this mod, which worked great after fixing the scaling, achievements are available.

So in short, it is possible, but to the extend of my attempts, it is very messy, will most likely not survive any game update, and comes at the cost of sacrifying another spieces.
Still worth it for me!

Damn, a bit frustrated that these amazing looking little guys are not achievement friendly as I enjoy completing them.
I'm surprised a cosmetic type of mod like this one is not compatible.

You know, despite all the very technical mods like Gigaengineering and NSC, this mod has to be my favourite out of the whole workshop. I don't know why, but this portrait is just awesome!

Hi Bralbaard, would you be ok if I included this mod in my patch that condenses all portraits mods in vanilla's species_classes? Your mod would be a requirement for my patch and users would have to subscribe to your mod. Just dropping by to say I really love those portraits.
It's refreshing to have someone create a xeno that looks somewhat humanoid while totally fungal/shroomy and very alien at the same time.
I'm definitely gonna inspire myself from this for my paper sci-fi RPG, your blessing would make it all the better~

I don't wish to impose, so I'll keep my personal suggestion brief, but it would be very interesting to see a species that's highly alien, and based on something like Cnidarians. Like a blossoming grotesque anemone with tendrils that flop about as it moves. Or a creaking mass of spindly coral! best of luck in the future! :steamthumbsup:

I've uploaded a new version that should fix the names for random empires (assuming I understood the problem correctly, because it's hard to test something that's random).

@Quibquib: Good suggestions! for my next species I'm focusing on something else, but I want to do something cute like the sugar glider, it will likely turn out to be a bit more alien than that though.

It currently has a category of it's own and I was unaware it needs preset species names, I thought those were randomly generated. I'll try to find out where and how to set those.

Looks fantastic, I love the design! Hope you make more in the future. Just two questions. Does this portrait come in the fungoid category or does it have its' own? if it's the latter then does it come with preset species names? If not, can it show up as a randomly-generated AI empire? I want to make sure before I add another mod resulting in more random unnamed empires.

@Grendain, that name is actually not introduced by the mod, but just the name of the empire I was playing when taking the screenshot.
I actually play them as xenophile materialists currently. I know the game uses infestation for exterminators, but it is somewhat fitting for fungi in a broader context.
