I just plop normal cargo hubs and use shipping paths to bring the ships to the desired area. There cargo hubs trade with each other, not as effective as barges but something is better than nothing.

I would literally pay real dollars if someone would fix this mod. One of my favorite cities was sort of built around it (i know, I know...) and I can't really open it or the cargo traffic carnage will slowly eat my city. Do I try to find someone on Reddit?

For those of you who are still in C:S 1 and haven't given up the hope:

I found a workaround for cities that rely on barges (i.e. island maps). I subscribed to these mods:

(Vehicle Selector) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2882769913
(River Cargo Harbor) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=878692125

The second one isn't actually needed but looks like and fits into the space of the barge harbors. It is actually a regular but smaller harbor. Important: You have to replace the ferry lines with regular ship paths then plop this or another harbor so that it connects to ONLY THIS SHIP PATH (otherwise it might spawn import or export vessels). Using vehicle selector, you can now force this harbor to be restricted to barges.

While the regular harbor (and the river cargo harbor respectively) do not feature a built in warehouse, the connection does work and I have once again barges travelling between my islands.

WORKS, but only for POSTAL. After having this installed and built out in my game for months, I was excited to see my first barge today! It seems only postal trucks utilized the barge link. I guess the rest of the cargo used the available rail link. There is no road connections.
When I severed the rail connection to test, I still got only postal trucks are using barges
Excited to see this mod work regardless :)

Barges mod has no harmful issues, just it is not functioning after the last game patch, which has reorganized the cargo of CS1. I did not remove Barges from the Treasure & Hunt compatible modlist.

I have implemented a couple of Cargo stations for barges, so I would not remove the mod.

this has sadly broken since last patches according to a compatibility report - shame - touch wood its fixed but then again cities II is coming so might be less mods working anyway as people move to that soon

From what I've heard, it's not a "tweak" that this mod needs. Apparently, whatever changes they made to "cargo" vehicles in one of the last vanilla updates broke several things, even some vanilla game behavior. @BP's last word on the matter is below, awaiting a game fix for the game patch.

I do hope they include some sort of small-scale cargo solution in C:S2, as some of the maps seen have many islands, and cargo harbors are big and expensive while cargo train stations require rail and otherwise road, winding over all (or, I suppose, under) those lovely vistas.

So much nicer to have a small low-cost barge/ferry (if ferries carried cargo trucks - hint, hint) pier, with the barges carrying intra-city and export cargo to the "mainland".

Thanks to BloodyPenguin for providing a glimpse of "what could be", if they only choose to implement it.

This mod is causing failure to load exit code 4294967295 errors when launching the game. Such a pity, it has so much promise.

It would be great if this mod could be fixed as I really enjoyed watching the barges move around my city. I tried to replace with vanilla cargo + workshop assets to recreate the feel but I can't get vanilla harbours to connect in my narrow waterways. Looks like I'll just have to add in some prop barges and hope this mod gets fixed :)

Odd, the mod works completely fine for me although now Skyve reports it needs to be excluded.

The mod does not work.
And it's still listed as compatible in the Hubs & Transport compatible mod list and in Skyve. That should definitely be corrected. That's why there is the compatible mod list and the compatibility report in Skyve.

@StayHungryStayFoolish Near where I grew up, there are many small communities without road access; barges and push boats move cargo, along with ships.

But it's a mod, and mods aren't guaranteed to be forever. Was fun while it lasted. But if the only kind of game possible going forward is "big giant city" builds -- well, that's why I stopped playing some years ago. I have no skyscrapers on my maps, and neither did my home city. It's not my thang... :-)

@StayHungryStayFoolish I'd heard of cargo routes, but thought they applied to cargo ships. Those harbors are far more expensive and larger than barges and the ships don't work in canals (like the one my barges [used to] use to get around the dam).

I see Barge->Cargo Ship as Cargo Truck->Train/Ship. They were ways to get smaller (1k-5k) waterfront population centers to have cargo connections, especially to export:
Truck->Barge->Truck->Train/Ship(Export).

Ah, well, we'll see. I guess I'm an oddity that I like this game, but not big cities. My last (and now unworkable) map had no population centers over about 20k, many under 5k.

For now, I'm back to playing Foundation. Nice change from C:S, in that you place buildings and the villagers make the paths between them (as opposed to placing roads and buildings appear).

Gentle people, it would appear that the broken Cargo Trains/Station(s) and Cargo Ferries (Barges) problem is not getting fixed ? ! Unfortunately.
I imagine CO's focus is on printing new money i.e. City:Skylines 2.
Well now that being the case they're not getting my money any time soon. A number of the DLC's I purchased were really only for the 1 thing they contained i.e. Ferries and Bicycles/Cycling and Trams etc,,,

@StayHungryStayFoolish I'm hoping against hope that "barges" or similar are included in C:S2, especially after seeing the archipelago map in the recent video. I'd hate to ruin that map with a maze of bridges!

CO has changed the cargo mechanism so they could help us if they are interested in this issue. I would not remove the Barges mod from the Hubs & Transport compatible modlist.

Since recently it stopped working. No barge spawning even after deleting and reconnecting existing ferry paths, which worked before. Any idea?

barges are not spawning, I am tired of having problems because of barges. I love them so much but this is not reliable, I already lost 2 big cities because of it, I will unsubscribe.

All of my Barge assets failed on most recent start. Seems safe to say this isnt getting fixed. I am ripping them out and unsubscribing.

In the videos released so far, iterations of transport types have not (iirc) mentioned water transport besides Passenger/Cargo Ships. I can't recall hearing about Ferries, though I presume they'll be there.

So: Could Barges be the first "must have" mod for C:S2???

I hope something like the barges exist in CS2, I just saw this the other day when browsing for mods and thought that looks handy, but saw it was also non functional.

@Ned Kelly The Barges mod does not seem to be working properly, but some users were reporting that redoing the line would make the barges spawn again.

Your cargo/passenger trains have nothing to do with the Barges mod. Please follow the Treasure & Hunt compatible modlist.

Dear All, I hope this is an apprprite forum. Neither the Cargo Train/Train Stations nor the Cargo Ferries/Barges work ! From what I've been able to read/ascertain is it's due to an in game code change by Colosol Order not the modder(s) ?? Do I continue to waste hours and hours over days and days or shall I just wait ? till what happens ? Much appreciated !

@StayHungryStayFoolish My recollection is that the barges worked fine -- *until* you restarted the game, and then some harbors just wouldn't send barges. Deleting/replacing the ferry path segment attached to the harbor would resolve that, at least till the next game load.

Current situation is (reportedly due to a game change) they just don't spawn barges ever.

@Snowwie Have you any more details about how you got your barges to work? I've had no luck with your described method.

In a new game, I had two simple barge harbors; neither generated barges. Taking your suggestion, I replaced one, then both, with Westhafen Lagerhalle harbors. Still no barges. I'm confident the ferry paths are working: I added two ferry stops and a depot, and drew a ferry path through the path the barges should take; that works. I've also checked with TMCE's "Path Debugging", and there's a consistent goods path with the ferry path and harbors.

One of the harbors is a remote village with no rail/road access and an overflow of Goods, so it's not that there's nothing to transfer.

So, sadly, still no barges for me.

This mod still works fine, even the Skyve says it's broken. You only have to make sure you use both harbors to make it work. Put at least ONE "Westhafen Lagerhalle" and connect that to a "Simple Barge Harbor" and this mod still works perfectly fine. You can add more Simple Barge Harbors to the line to distribute the goods. This mod is not broken, but you need this little detail about using BOTH these buildings.
