PS: it also allows the event to conditionally play alternate BGMs when entering the map

One way to handle transfer is to do the fading yourself:

On the exit event do the fade out.

On the new map add an autorun event that fades in then erases itself (with erase event). The result is an autorun that triggers once whenever the map is started, which is exactly what is needed here.

I found it's sometimes also good to also manage the BGM in the same manner (if you do so turn the automatic BGM in the map properties off). It allows things like slowing down the fadeout of the old map's BGM if there's going to be a pause in the next map appearing (such as when transfering to a map that activates MGC's Mode 7 scripts)

When the is screen faded out/in in the above manner (with paired exit/enter events) it also allows setting up things like rotation, color tints, etc in advance of the map fading in (you don't see a 'normal' map fade and having the effects apply visibly afterwards).

How do I launch Tutorial Town v1.02? I subscribed and opened the RPG-Maker, but I can't find this game.
fullbustermel Jun 15, 2015 @ 5:10pm
There was nothing in the script or file when i tried to launch

Hullo, I got 3 linked way to learn RPGMaker Vx Ace upon my profile in no peculiar preference order (Perhaps from recenter to first I found useful ;) ) And Tutorial Town is one of them.

Except, since I use now my profile to copy-paste my references... I was hoping to find your Tutorial Town's YouTube channel link in your description.

Excellent as a companion to Redweaver's Youtube Tutorial Town series. However, playing through the game I found impossible without cheating, and I would suggest liberally applying what you have learned about RPGMakerVXAce to help yourself through the entire game.

Nice way to teach the basics of rpg maker

For some reason screen fades and transfers don't get along. So, to fix it, I moved the fadein to a parallel processing event that was looking for the First Day Done switch to be on and then I made sure that switch was on before the transfer event. Problem solved!

Hello. Did someone have the same problem, as I do?
The first playday, when "mom" calls you home in the evening. The screen just turns black after that. I thought, "maybe I'm sleeping or something". But then I tried to move and stumbled accross something. When I pressed "Z", it activated the dialog. So, the game continues, but the screen remains black, and I can't do anything about it. But I can open the menu, and I see it. But nothing around.

Yes it's true, I browse the workshop on a LTE connection which is capped at 20GB/month so I have adblock installed on my browser to prevent any workshop images from loading. Far too many are unoptimized for the web.

Updated the thumbnail, its now only a couple hundred Kb.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. I've been wanting to make my own RPG for ages, and as user friendly as RM is, I still felt quite lost about most of the program. You made a great tutorial for beginners like myself. With any luck, once I get the hang of this program, I can finally start making my stories come to life, and it will be thanks in part to you!

@Zl_Zépedrinho when you are on the editor press CTRL+M to open project manager and you should see all of your subscriptions.

Where can I find your game to play? I dont know where steam workshop saves the things that I download
Redweaver_420  [author] May 2, 2014 @ 6:27am
https://www.youtube.com/user/Redweaver/featured

You can also search "tutorial town" to find the episodes. And the subscribe button will download the editor file and autoupdate it if I make any changes. Thank you very much for your support!
PraiseTuna May 1, 2014 @ 5:13pm
Also I forgot to mention what does the "Subscribe" button do in context to being in steam workshop? Does it just inform me whenever the auther realease another pack or what? because if so I would be glad to subscribe because the video has already been very helpful and I would like to show any support that I can.
PraiseTuna May 1, 2014 @ 5:08pm
anyone know how to get to the youtube channle to watch all the other videos? Or what it's name is? Also I'm only about 15~ minutes into the video but I've already learned more in that amount of time then I ever did looking at the in game tutorials or any other links so, thank you.

Pretty sweet Tutorial game.
Steboost Apr 20, 2014 @ 1:25am
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this. I`m slowly working my way through the videos (only on pt4 atm) It`s awesome to have such a good newbie friendly guide into such a complex creative tool, I finally started adding little differences while I build along as I go from total novice to understanding how different features work. Always wanted to make a game, finally getting to it.THANK YOU. :ralphhurt:

Sweet! Your youtube tutorial series was how I learned to use this program in the first place - nice work!
Marquise* Mar 17, 2014 @ 5:14pm
Thank you. Not only now I could peek into your game but I must had spent 5 hours on it. XD

A lot of finesse and subtilities in it. I suspect you like Red Dwarf ;) (that and a Game of Stools)

It is promissing; you did a lot of things I would had simply put an X on it because I would had tought it too complicated. Now... To find a certain mountain with that lance or listen 5 more hours of making-of? (jk, love both)
Redweaver_420  [author] Mar 15, 2014 @ 3:35pm
There shouldn't be any scripts in the file. I removed them.
Marquise* Mar 14, 2014 @ 9:22pm
Sorry, I go to file, I do manage projects, I load Tutorial town but when I click the playtesting icon in the toolbar I get;

Script 'Yanfly Ace Class System' line 761: NameError occured.

undefined method `add_formation_command' for class `Window_MenuCommand'

Otherwise I'm enjoying the YouTube videos and eye here and there the structure of the game. I might try easy things before asking hard ones for the games in my head. ;) I have a 2D animation background and lots of ideas, scripts and stories on my shelves and drawers. At least an easy game maker keeps me in check upon what to do with them. (I'll tackle graphics another day)

DankusFrankus Mar 10, 2014 @ 3:20pm
For those of you wondering how to play it: 1) Go to File 2) Manage Projects 3) Load Tutorial Town
segatron Mar 7, 2014 @ 1:53pm
As a guy starting from absolute zero experience, I thank you for this.
Rycoria Mar 7, 2014 @ 11:37am
Woo!
Redweaver_420  [author] Mar 6, 2014 @ 10:23am
I wish these comments had a reply button. @The Doctor, if you ever come back to check this out: Just click subscribe. The file should download for you, then you should be able to open it and playtest it like any other project. If you can't open it with the editor for some reason, then find where it downloaded to and click the dragon icon Game.Exe and it should launch for you.
Great Aether! Mar 6, 2014 @ 8:05am
Currently watching your Tutorial Town youtube videos. You're quite easily the best teacher I've found for this software. Great help.
Spoof Mar 5, 2014 @ 8:15pm
Looks sweet.
Red Miata Mar 5, 2014 @ 5:48pm
How do I play this?
Arathorne2 Mar 4, 2014 @ 8:57pm
I learned a lot playing through the tutorial town adventure. It was awesome comparing what you did in RPG Maker with playtesting.
DCPower13 Mar 2, 2014 @ 5:40pm
Thanks, works great now.
BrightGirl Feb 28, 2014 @ 8:57am
Hi, Redweaver, Your Tutorial Town tutorial on You-Tube is fantastic, and want to tell you thanks. I trully appreciate the time and effort it must have taken to put that tutorial together. I now feel more confident about creating my own RPG, thanks to you:) You are the man!
Redweaver_420  [author] Feb 28, 2014 @ 8:31am
Please don't forget to click that thumbs up if you enjoyed the game!
Redweaver_420  [author] Feb 28, 2014 @ 6:31am
Oh, dang....I forgot I was toying with those before I put it up. Thank you for finding that, I'll fix it IMMEDIATELY.
DCPower13 Feb 26, 2014 @ 11:22pm
I gave it a shot but the game refused to launch with a script error on line 761 Yanfly Ace Class System. I have no idea how to fix it since I'm a novice!
