Just press ESC go to the mod screen and force update from there. Restart. Done. Please dont complicate things when there is no need and dont tell people to waste time expecting in that precise moment steam miracously update it that is never gonna happen.

But yes. It appears the author has abandoned this mod. It still works, but you just have to know how to deal with the infinite loop (which really isn't infinite if you follow my tips below). Once you know how to get out of this loop, this mod will still work just fine

to fix the infinite reboot loop. Here's several things that can work

1) NEVER press restart. Hit ESC to clear the restart window
2) Exit the game manually and give steam a chance to download the mods. The restart button doesn't give steam a chance to do this
3) restart the game after steam downloads the mods

or

1) never press restart. Hit ESC
2) go into the mod list
3) click force update on any mod stuck in that reboot loop. They should be marked in yellow
4) Hit continue vs restart on the pop ups
5) When done, exit the game manually, and let steam update things
6) restart the game

or

In some RARE cases a mod will error out and can't be updated if it's too old and the update process can't update it (this can also happen if there's a mod conflict). In this case, press ESC vs restart, and manually go in and delete the offensive mod and restart the game. Once things are stable, reinstall the mod.

Doing one of the above ALWAYS gets me out of that reboot loop and get my mods updated

Im using like 40 mods. Only in one of em "Ronivan's legacy" i have the problem of the infinite restart msg probably because the mod is so huge that it goes crazy. I just press ESC, go to the mods screen and click on force update. No more update msgs.

yep, something changed with steam api and now the mod update-loops and corrupts mod configurations

Can't recommend any longer.
Leads to restart-loops (YES EVEN WITHOUT ONE DRIVE - dont even try to claim thats the issue. I dont use one drive).
Dev has not been active the entire 2025, not even on GitHub.

Used to love this mod but i've had to switch to others as this no longer updates mods, gets stuck in a loop telling me the mods don't work thus i've gotta go into the mods.json file to reset the status from Status 3 to Status 1 only to have this mod ignore that, get stuck in a loop & not download or update things. And no it's not related to OneDrive like some have said cuz i don't have my Documents folder added to OneDrive. I also get the error of mods not able to install cuz it's run out of memory which it hasn't.

BTW, uninstalling the game is NOT what I'm talking about.
It's they 'Klei' folder inside 'Documents'.

For anyone having the looping update issue, it's most probably related to permission issues that's preventing the game from writing to disk. After spending a lot of time trying to fix the permissions, I just saved a backup and deleted the folder. Steam will create the folder again and then, for me, the issue was fixed.

how is anyone getting these mods to work none of them show up ingame at all. Whats the point of the workshop.

This mod causes an infinite loop of start (mod is getting updatet, start again, mod is getting updatet, start again,..) This happened five times now.

Mod forced me to unsub it as it continuously restarted ONI. after removing it the mod that had an update finally installed. Seems an oversight to force a restart before the mod requiring an update could update. is this required to be in a specific order like at the bottom or something?

For everyone wondering, this mod is not down, just look on GitHub. It seems the creator only updates there or updates in long intervals

Needs some form of rollback, especially if you go back a version when the game updates. Mod Updater seems to "brute force" mods to update (unless you disable auto-update outright), doesn't ask you for confirmation whether you actually want to continue without updating. Runs the risk of a bad dev update breaking things as mods update in response to become compatible again, only for everything to end up broken. Some mods update slower than others, some depend on others to properly work... yeah. I wanted to go back to the Dec Update prior to the Bionic Update (which already got a hotfix, possibly another to come again), loaded the game and Mod Updater has already gone and jumped the gun and is now asking for a restart at Klei's "Are you sure you wanna play this outdated version?" screen. Not ideal for Mod Updater to be doing that. Thankfully the mods installed (the ones that updated and the ones that didn't) seem fine with the Bionics update not breaking anything in spectacular fashion.

It was a great mod a while ago, but now it just deletes all mods and reinstalls them on each game launch, which also means it clears all configuration and you have to re-do it every time... Sorry, but that's not usable anymore.

That's a dumb reason to not recommend it. Steam is SUPPOSED to auto-update mod itself. This mod exist simply because that fails so miserably sometimes.

The mod works great! It updates nicely. BUT it broke my save. To be clear, the mod that was updated broke my save, but because it was auto updated, i had a hard time finding the mod causing the problem. I had to disable all mods and enable one by one to find the problem.

Even though this mod works great, i can not recommend using this for this reason.

This mod is making things worse. Uninstall if you value your sanity.

might not be mod updater related, but in the player.log file I find many "Steam failed to download mod - Skipping installing mod"

Something goes wrong today. I restarted a saved game from day before, get a long list of changed mods and a lot of not found mods. I exit the game to menu and check the mod list, and the missing mods are listed there (I only checked 5 of them and they are all still on the workshop and subscribed)
