also it is basically the most simple solution because the more elaborate it gets the more clangy and spaceprogrammy my ships get ^^

Good news everybody i have a new concept that allows me to steer even the biggest ships altough i yet have to implement it on a ship without ruining its looks completly but it should not prove to difficult

If one big rudder is too hard to steer, try and make a twin rudder boat, also try changing where the rudder is in relevance to the COM, i haven't, made any ships myself so i don't know if either will help but it is what i would try.

some of my newer creatiions actully fall in the realms of fantasy aswell so my opinion is actully quite hypocritical ^^

Bigger rudders need more power to steer but some steering would be nice after all ^^ also thank you sail64 i do have grudges about ships in video games aswell but i wouldn't claim my ships are accurate at all as most dimensions are off but i do try to capture the looks of these ships ^^

Try a bigger rudder for steering. But if you think these size ships turned quickly you are wrong :D

That is a beautiful piece of work my friend. Looks better than a lot of the soi-disant 'professional game designers' work. As a sailor and maritime historian, a lot of what they represent as sailing ships are pure cr_p.

mount a steering wheel horizontally :)

i will update this ship once i find a way of steering that doesen't include a million remote controle rope drums or immediate disintegration ^^

ah, ok then

tried it but steering is still rather difficult so i decided to keep the 24 punders on the gun decks and the 12 pounders on the spar deck as i thought it looked better

one thing that might improve agility of the ship, is to make the cannon size get smaller as you went up in decks, as in real life, heaviest cannons would be towards the bottom of the ship, so you could do (from top to bottom) is 6 pdr, 12 pdr and 24 pdr.
