Aaaah, I guess I am too dumb to understand that part, thanks mate! :-)
Mad Hatter  [author] Sep 2, 2023 @ 3:08am
the texture files need to be named
madhatter_map1.tga madhatter_map2.tga madhatter_map3.tga madhatter_map4.tga

exactly like that all lower case.

I must be doing something wrong. Adjusted the images to 2048 by 2048 pixels and saved as .tga file. Replaced the files in the right directory but yet when I want to use the overlay in TF2, I only get a purple image? What am I doing wrong?

Hi Brelbc - to be honest I don't remember I originally published this in 2019. I suspect not. I think you would need a lot more than 4 graphic files to cover a megalomaniac map .
brelbc Jun 8, 2022 @ 12:54pm
Great mod. Is it also possible to use it on hegalomaniac maps or is it limited to Very Large Size?
ArKo Jul 31, 2021 @ 2:28am
would it be possible that the overlay can render transparent ?
just making the .tga having transparency doesn't render ingame.
Oswyn May 7, 2021 @ 12:25pm
Would it be possible to script it so the overlay is painted onto the map automatically, might only work with black/white image
Chrisly Feb 1, 2021 @ 10:19am
I have four overlays available in the game. Is there any way I can add more overlays to my card?
If yes how?
Mad Hatter  [author] Jan 23, 2021 @ 5:23pm
Hi @Lahonna - the short answer is no - what I tend to do is after placing the map drop a marker like a tree or group of trees at a/each corner to help me put it back in the same place.
Chrisly Jan 23, 2021 @ 11:18am
Is there a way to put the overlay back in the exact same place once you've removed it?
Exo_Atami_122 Nov 22, 2020 @ 4:07am
I was having a hard time fin:steamhappy:ding the icon to delete the map but I think I might have found an easier way.
When you want to delete it just go to "Configure" and reduce both scales (major and minor) to zero. That will shrink the map to a minimum but most important it will shrink it centered on the icon! Now just buldoze away!! :steamhappy:
Mad Hatter  [author] Jul 4, 2020 @ 12:34pm
It can be a pain to find the icon after you click on the bulldozer - sometimes its way up in the air. Try zooming all the way out and use the F key to flatten out and Q&E look around.
wabbithunta Jul 4, 2020 @ 12:18pm
Can you explain how to delete the overlay after it's been used?
Also it [the overlay] doesn't fit on a Huge 1:1 map, it's not large enough.
I've tried using the delete tool [bulldozer] and it doesn't work, or have I missed something else
Primello May 22, 2020 @ 9:11am
The overlay is to smal for the ecperimental map size 1:1 -.- Riesig ist not 1:1 its to small....
Jedidiah May 20, 2020 @ 3:27pm
I seem to be having the same problem as Taicheehang. The overlays aren't covering the entire map. Originally I was trying to recreate a 1:1 scale map on Huge size (20 km x 20 km). That's when I noticed the problem. So I tried to load a medium size map and used one of the stock overlays that are included (map 4 to be exact). Same problem, it only covers a fraction of the map. I messed with the configure settings before placing the overlay, such as upping the size to huge and megalomaniac, which still weren't big enough to cover my medium size map. I also tried using photoshop to alter the size of the images but that had no effect. Not sure what else could be the problem. I'd love to use this mod if I can get it to work!

Hi Archimon - I added your suggested changes.
Mad Hatter  [author] Apr 8, 2020 @ 12:48am
Hi Archimon - yes :)
Archimon Apr 7, 2020 @ 2:59pm
Hi Mad Hatter, I have a slightly optimized version of your overlay mod, can we talk about it?
Taicheehang Mar 25, 2020 @ 3:15am
It can't overlay the whole map, and it needs simplify.
Road Kill Bill Feb 13, 2020 @ 5:59am
Yes, this works fine especially when the terrain is flat. I tested it on a tiny map 4 x 4 KM with elevations between 5 and 80 Mtrs and the overlay matched the terrain (although it was fiddly to line it up. I'd put markers on my terrain map where a bridge should be and used this to position the overlay.

Just a note for those who are still not quite sure how to use this Mod. First try it out with the default maps until you are used to it. Download the Mod (Obviously). In Map creation make sure the mod is active. Go to assets and find "OVERLAY". Menu pops up where you select size and Map 1 to 4 etc . Use ,< and .> to lower/raise overlay and click to apply.
To use your own maps Create TGA file 2048 x 2048 pixels and rename to replace madhatter_map1 (2,3, and 4) in your directory. My directory ends in 1939067713/res/textures
doom_juan Jan 25, 2020 @ 8:43am
Sadly this keeps crashing every time I try and remove the overlay.

Thanks a lot, i have founded on a unix box on:
/home/<user>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/workshop/content/<steam-user-number>/1939067713/res/textures/
The folder .local is hidden. If you press Ctrl + H this becomes visible.
Mad Hatter  [author] Jan 17, 2020 @ 6:49pm
Hi dicker Pinguin
That's where they are stored by default on a PC.
I have no idea where steam sticks its workshop files on a unix box.

The files you are looking for are named 'madhatter_map1.tga' - and 2 and 3 and 4 they will all be together so if you find one you will find them all.
Hope that helps.
dicker Pinguin Jan 17, 2020 @ 12:40pm
Where and in which file format are your own maps stored? The path given in the description does not exist for me and I do not find any comparable.
shaunus82 Jan 11, 2020 @ 4:25am
Thanks for your reply. I had a feeling I would be able to move it up and down with "."",", or Page Up, Page Down, as I have mapped mine to. Not sure if it would help with the map I'm currently making, as it is very hilly, but I hope you have luck with getting the mod to follow the terrain. That would be awesome.
Mad Hatter  [author] Jan 10, 2020 @ 5:31am
Unfotrunately I still haven't found a way to make the map roll over the landscape.
Because the map is just an asset (like say a bench or a building) you can decide when you put it down to set the height using the '.' ',' keys. And then delete it and place again at a different height. - Not ideal - but at the moment that's the best I can offer.
shaunus82 Jan 8, 2020 @ 8:09am
I'm very interested in using this mod to accurately place towns & roads on a 1:1 Real Scale map that I'm making, but it is a very hilly map. Is it possible to raise/lower the map overlay?
baracus37 Dec 19, 2019 @ 1:07pm
HI; thanks a lot. Works just fine now. An improved version with terrain faces would be greatly appreciated ;)
Harag Dec 19, 2019 @ 10:34am
Ahh. makes sense now I see the description, great tool. Thanks.
Mad Hatter  [author] Dec 18, 2019 @ 4:56pm
Oops - deleted the description
Harag Dec 18, 2019 @ 12:31pm
Erm, I'm confused, what is this? description doesn't really say.
Mad Hatter  [author] Dec 18, 2019 @ 12:15pm
Hi baracus37, Fixed - however very odd as it was working for me.
baracus37 Dec 18, 2019 @ 8:54am
thank your for this awesome mod, but unfortunately it is not working for me. As soon as I click on it in the Map editor I get a Lua error:

Key:ConstructWithModules.config.game
errors: res/scripts/init.lua:64 creating globals by assignment is not allowed (variable was map)
Did you forget to add "local" before your variable?

However I am not certain on how to use this mod. Maybe I am doing something wrong. Could you maybe explain in abit more detail how to use this mod? Maybe even a short tutorial video? That would be appreciated!
Skunk Monkey Dec 17, 2019 @ 11:05am
Yes! This is something I've been waiting for. I was hoping for something that could be height adjusted after placing, but this can work. Used to use something like this in the Trainz sims.
n00t_NAFO Dec 17, 2019 @ 10:52am
Great idea, hope one day it will be fully functional with terrain
