Also thanks Ajey for the mod itself.
yeah i knew how to change it too, but i did not have time to provide an additional version of this mod (i am busy with my main mods related to ACG). thanks for letting other people know about it though. if you want, feel free to upload your thinner version of Aesthetic Borders if you feel like you want to share it with the community. this is a very tiny mod and there are no issues with permissions if you want to change and upload it to the workshop (unlike ACG where additional permissions would be needed because it's a huge mod project that involved other people's permissions).
I was able to make the border thinner. thank you.
@Luckxy I also think the default paradox borders are a bit too chunky as well, It's a single line change to the border shader file if you want to manually tweak this mod to have thinner borders. After downloading this mod, you need to change the file: steam/steamapps/workshop/content/281990/1716939558/gfx/FX/border.shader - and add a "/ 2" to line 190 so that it looks like this:
float vEdgeWidth = 0.025f + 0.35f * vCamDistFactor / 2;
If you save the changed file then reload, you can have thin borders and this mod's colours at the same time. If this mod ever gets updated it will need doing another time.
yeah it's possible but i don't have time to provide an additional version of this mod because i am busy with working on my main mod (ACG). besides i also do like to keep this mod unchanged because i like it the way it is. i hope for your understanding
yes this mod should still work even though i did not update the version of it
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/stellaris-strike-craft-graphical-bug.1526982/ ***
comments are still allowed but i think the syntax was changed over time for shader files. i just updated the mod for changing the syntax comments when i realized i don't need them anymore anyway. so i just removed them. have fun!
A reminder:
Please remove the first 4 lines in gfx/FX/border.shader
These four
// AJ Changes: Line 196: "const float vEdgeSharpness = 20.0f" statt "const float vEdgeSharpness = 100.0f"
// AJ Changes: Line 195 habe ich wieder zu vanilla zurückgeändert: "float vEdgeWidth = 0.025f + 0.35f * vCamDistFactor * 1.6" statt "float vEdgeWidth = 0.025f + 0.35f * vCamDistFactor"
// AJ Changes: Line 207: "float4 vColor = vAlphaEdge * PrimaryColor + ( 1 - vAlphaEdge ) * PrimaryColor" statt "float4 vColor = vAlphaEdge * PrimaryColor + ( 1 - vAlphaEdge ) * SecondaryColor"
// AJ Changes: Line 235: "vColor.a *= 0" statt "vColor.a *= 0.2f"
Stellaris doesn't know how to parse them. I guess comments are not allowed in this filetype or they require a different syntax.
that "cheat" was an unintended consequence of the nemesis update which changed a graphical shader file. so old code which was implemented into this mod leaded to your observation. i just updated this mod. so right now there is no cheat option available anymore ;) - have fun!
If you have low intel the area of other empires is obscured the further you get from their capital, with this mod it is not.
Screenshots for comparison:

I don't really mind that. You've done the impossible and created a cheat that works in Ironman games, but I thought I'd report it.
I've traced back some of the entries in the error.log to your mod. Your mod did not cause the crash, but I still thought I'll let you know about what I've found.
These are the last couple of lines from my error.log:
https://pastebin.com/X7zgNqpw
And the persistent.cpp seems to stumble over your comments in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\281990\1716939558\gfx\FX\border.shader
I guess comments are not allowed in this file. Just letting you know, since these four lines may lead to some unexpected behaviour if they are parsed instead of being treated as comments.
i am happy if it's working for you now - have fun! :)
this mod should still work just fine :)
regarding two color empire variant: in vanilla each empire has two colors on the galaxy map (related to flag colors) => so sometimes empires have blue + pink => like their empire is filled with blue and their borders are pink => just an example. i thought that's ugly and so i only made empires have the primary color => so borders + color that fills their empires on galaxy map are the same and only one color => see images attached
regarding PINS: 2nd picture of mod description shows a PIN of vanilla => just below the vanilla text => a PIN is the line and point connected to a star to make it more two dimensional but it looks ugly in my opinion so i removed them
yea the other variants of this mod published by me are also compatible with the current version of stellaris even though i did not update the number. just ignore the warning if you want to use them.
regarding screenshots: i already added a lot of screenshots + describing if they are coming from the mod or vanilla. if those screenshots are not enough then please just try it out and look what you like best. all my border graphics mod + submods are save game compatible and iron man compatible and super easy to turn on and off during a game.
And are the Two Color Empire Variant of this mod compatible with 2.7+ ? Can you add screenshots to both Two Color Empire Variant of this mod that shows what are those PINS and difference between this mod and those two mods?
Can you make version with thinner borders?
Thx.
this mod should be compatible with 2.5
1. go to Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris
2. delete everything in this folder except "save games"
3. restart stellaris
=> you will have to reactivate your mods again but the game and mods should work properly again***
it's a key feature of this mod to remove the "two" color experience => see mod's description => features => "border color and empire color = primary color"
if you also use the recommended mods - especially spectra flag color mod - then you will have a lot of different colors in game (even without two colors)
and if thats not enough for you and if you prefer to have two colors you can simply use the "two color variant" of this mod (also mentioned in the mod description => just click on the link)
I hope that helps :)
I appreciate that you don't like the star pins, but for me, it is easier to tell what is inside the borders with the pins. Could we possibly have a Two Color Border w/Star Pins mod, please?
