Thanks my guy lost a small amount of health in battle and he got a bad negative trait. He's faced 3-1 odds on multiple occasion completed objectives on his own before and i got no positive traits and he did all that without a scratch before. Now that get got hit once after like 8 missions hes scared of spiders or some shit now.

I mean, it's a mod. "This seems unnecessary" is a silly thing to say for a mod. If you don't want it, don't use it.

I have an idea for a spin-off game based on @Arkhangel comments. You are a recruiter and HR manager for XCOM. Your job is to find, filter and recruit suitable candidates and make sure they go on the right missions according to their skills and try to bond them as quickly and effectively as possible. The recruits can (and WILL) lie about their history, their phobias and not being faceless. It's basically Papers, Please only in XCOM and you send a lot of condolences letters to the fallens' families. You're basically Bredford's Bredford but without DLC mission.

I'm honestly okay with keeping the normal names because it really humanizes your troops. they're literally getting PTSD, which you do need to send them to the Infirmary to get counselling for. they kinda deserve given the hell we can put them through (not to mention that poor bastard who, say, just lost an arm and needed a Cybernetic one due to a screwup on your last mission)

@Invertin: that said, while people do suffer from these in real life, they technically would be pretty negative in a combat situation, but that's also why any corps of soldiers that actually has people with phobias tends to have them archived, so they can avoid putting them in those situations to the best of their abilities. A good showing of why this is important is in Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles when Isabel "Dizzy" Flores lies on her form to join the Mobile Infantry about having Claustrophobia....which of course led to her freaking out and passing out in a Bug tunnel and nearly getting the squad killed.

t's not that having a phobia in and of itself is a bad thing. it's more the fact that forcing someone with a Phobia into situations that set it off is bad (which honestly means it's YOUR fault as the Commander if you put them in that position)

Honestly I like this idea a lot. Using certain disorders and stuff as a negative trait in a videogame can make them seem trivial or unimportant, and is exactly as "unnecessary" as not using them, this way it's JUST a negative trait in a videogame with no need for real-world context.
