Allfather Jan 24, 2022 @ 12:39pm

Endovelicus Dec 21, 2018 @ 1:24pm
I do not know why but, I just bought ToB, and I went to play wessex, and the units are in yellow and white, and when I trigger this mod, the shields turn white with some grays, and the white and red units , I do not understand anything
Dizzy Ioeuy Dec 17, 2018 @ 10:52am
Argh! Between this and the variation pack colorful shields... they are both so good!!!! Hard choices!
CrazyLigma Dec 1, 2018 @ 8:57pm
it doesnt work for me, the other mods i have at for the family tree and a skill point for when you level up. Ive tried it on the East Angles, but many its only for certain factions? idk but I'd like to know. Thanks
Huitzilopochtli Oct 27, 2018 @ 10:11pm
I love those delicious colorful shields.
Thank you for this beautiful mod.
Johny_Nawalony Oct 22, 2018 @ 1:23pm
Breepzz, heraldry wasn't a thing in the viking age so everyone painted their shields as they liked
Breepzz Sep 26, 2018 @ 2:27am
It s very good work. But I cannot play this because men at arms paint on their shield their lord colors. And with that we have the exactly same shield than ennemi in front in some case... Sad. Royal guard need to have same shield colors.

UPDATE!!!
Man of Creed Sep 5, 2018 @ 4:40pm
update pls
dontfearme22  [author] Sep 3, 2018 @ 9:43pm
it only conflicts with mods that change the unit definitions @Lawrence [29th Ret.]
Gegenpress Aug 30, 2018 @ 3:01pm
Looks like it was conflicting with Crucible of Kings. Weird.
Gegenpress Aug 30, 2018 @ 2:43pm
Tried using this mod with out of date mods enabled, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Don't have other reskins being used.
dontfearme22  [author] Aug 29, 2018 @ 10:35pm
@Tomcarb19 yes you can still use it, you just need to enable outdated mods in your mod manager. It does still work, I guarantee it (being a purely graphical mod, updates dont normally affect it).
st.aloysius Aug 29, 2018 @ 7:16pm
is there any update? since we have blood dlc and allegiance updated, i can't use it
Tomcarb19 Aug 29, 2018 @ 6:57pm
i cant use it, a yellow sign appears in my mod manager
Catfish Aug 29, 2018 @ 3:11pm
I really like how varied and colorful the shields are now.

Do you have any plans on recoloring and adding more variation to the units too? The units look a little too drab at the moment imo but these new shields really make them pop - especially because the colors are so varied.
Toasterfire Aug 29, 2018 @ 10:39am
If only this and Robbstark's variatiosn were compatible :/
dontfearme22  [author] Jul 29, 2018 @ 9:12pm
"This mod is organized to allow easier modding of the ToB shield designs. I encourage anyone wishing to attempt their own reskin work for ToB to use and reuse my data and textures. All you need to do is provide credit somewhere to me and my work." :P
Lord Castellan Majorian Jul 29, 2018 @ 5:35pm
You mind if I use these patterns in my mod?
SIX Jun 3, 2018 @ 2:03pm
The mod swaps round shields to kit ones for dyflin mailed axe warrior.
Can i have my round shield back :)
Papagaio sem asa Jun 3, 2018 @ 1:53pm
too bad it doesn't work with other reskin mods, I really apreciate that my nobles aren't walking around pantless =/
Ligma Bababooey Jun 2, 2018 @ 6:09pm
any plans for armour, helmets reskin ?
SIX May 31, 2018 @ 8:06pm
Awesome shields it goes very well with ToB
dontfearme22  [author] May 24, 2018 @ 5:22pm
@Mr. Picklecopper maybe, I'm not very good at db modifications - im sure there will be a good one out soon you can use from someone else.
Wouldn't've'd May 24, 2018 @ 5:21pm
Do you think you can do a faction unlock mod? like for the danelaw or the viking sea kings?
UCAV May 24, 2018 @ 9:03am
Thank you again for the effort to make this game visualy more historical and attractive. I'm looking forward to your work in ToB. For now this is the best mod for ToB.
Vandeco May 22, 2018 @ 4:45pm
@dontfearme22 Ah, ToB sure could use some other graphical tweaks such as these! Best of luck in all your projects, mate!
dontfearme22  [author] May 22, 2018 @ 4:21pm
@Vandeco This was a side-project to my main work as a developer on the MK1212 mod for Attila, and other projects. I will be working privately on that and other things, possibly some for ToB like this one. Glad you enjoy it!
Vandeco May 22, 2018 @ 3:03pm
@dontfearme22 Thank you very much for this awesome work! I sure enjoy it alot. Do you intend on modding other stuff now or are you going to take a break?
dontfearme22  [author] May 22, 2018 @ 2:41pm
Aside from the small shields, wood shields, and clonoura shields (Which I currently do not intend on modifying), this mod is basically done for now. I'm satisfied with it so far and I hope everyone else is. I'll cease updates here unless for bugfixes or some future burst of inspiration hits me.
dontfearme22  [author] May 21, 2018 @ 9:47pm
@King Vlad the Rad Dad if I do, it will be a seperate mod, that way you can have both the vanilla outfits and custom ones according to preference.
King Vlad The Rad Chad May 21, 2018 @ 8:12pm
Will ye be making more variation for the soldiers that would be compatible with this mod? In a manner thats historical like this mod?
dontfearme22  [author] May 20, 2018 @ 10:07pm
Scottish shields added, round and square
dontfearme22  [author] May 20, 2018 @ 3:11pm
Added new Norman round shields and some new kite shields with bayeaux tapestry inspired designs.
UCAV May 20, 2018 @ 3:00pm
Well, you have been busy today. Nice shields for the Norge!
(Advertisement) USE THIS MOD! :steamhappy:
dontfearme22  [author] May 20, 2018 @ 9:29am
@kelt545 I'm not modifying abilities in any way, and don't intend to. That way this mod is compatible with mods that do add abilities (I currently use SFO).

@UCAV thanks for the compliments! I entirely agree.
UCAV May 19, 2018 @ 10:35pm
Dear dontfearme22, I like the new toned-down colouring I just saw on the field, thank you!; Colourfull, but in line with the vanilla game. Strange CA didn't implement these realistic shields, but they like to give factions a specific colouring and by this not giving credit to the vibe of the era. So make this mod not a dark gothic color (as suggested) because early medievals would not understand this. You are on a good path. As for the cloathing; it will come, just something I and I guess also you would like to see. I only hope that your shields will be used. The shields are wonderfull. Btw. This week Netflix put season 2 of Last Kingdom online in my region; shields there are in line in what I see in your mod. No grey (gothic) shields for the normans or any uniform color anybody, but many colours. Anyways nice timing for this season and game!
dontfearme22  [author] May 19, 2018 @ 8:54pm
First set of color tweaks added, expect several more as I refine the texture sets.
Cold Lama 248 May 19, 2018 @ 5:13pm
can we get darker color gothic and lather babby!
dontfearme22  [author] May 19, 2018 @ 1:53pm
@the total war kid aka twk This is exactly why my next update is going to be a general color tweak. In my first set of textures I was more focused on capturing the appearance of reenactors, which often use color schemes that would be unfeasible in the period, than actual period soldiers. So if you can tolerate another few days of scooby doo color schemes ill post a update that should help things.

@UCAV Uniform coloring, if I do tackle it, will be as a seperate mod. It makes more sense to me that way.
Ostaglia May 19, 2018 @ 10:37am
You should make a ver without purple since no one could afford it back then.
UCAV May 18, 2018 @ 4:34pm
Good Show! Looks so much better this way, more realistic. And for your colours, After reading the reviews I expected the CA colouring, but it is ok, maybe a bit toned down couldn't harm for the mood of the game, but brighter colours may be not such a bad thing. What we need now is more colouring of the troops. ...sometimes we have think bad of the so-called Dark Ages, esp. the time before 1200 AD, as if it were the most sober times in our history. But they used a lot of colours; like the Romans did in their temples and statues, etc. Modern series about Vikings are now dark and grey, like in the vanila game. Not so true. So good mod.
Jazzu May 18, 2018 @ 1:04pm
Okay, thanks for the answer, and hurray for updates. Looking to see where this goes.
dontfearme22  [author] May 18, 2018 @ 11:21am
Irish and Welsh shields added - next update will be general graphical tweaks and then the Scots.
dontfearme22  [author] May 18, 2018 @ 8:04am
@Jazzu The colors are (currently) brighter than they probably were historically, but many of the simpler patterns are well corroborated by period art. Many of the more complex ones are based on secondary illustrations and textual references. The norman and saxon shields are probably the most accurate simply because thats where the best sources are, followed by the norse shields, and then the irish / welsh shields are largely based on illustrations, not period art.

When the scottish shields are done, they will probably be decently accurate, since there is a decent amount of period art for pictish shield designs.

Certainly the heterogenous appearance is more authentic than the uniformed masses of shields we see in the vanilla version.
Jazzu May 18, 2018 @ 12:28am
Not that it really matters to me enjoying the mod, but I am curious. How historically accurate is this? I know you said you went off of art/reenactments, but I was curious all the same.
dontfearme22  [author] May 17, 2018 @ 10:56pm
New Irish patterns: https://i.imgur.com/IawgP7o.jpg

Alongside the Welsh and Irish shields, i'll be doing a few tweaks to tone down of the weirder color combinations in my original shield sets. I think, after working around on this mod, that a lot of the colors would look better if they were more muted.

Little preview: https://i.imgur.com/EOunKZk.jpg

Welsh shield patterns - I'm using a lot of Romano-British symbols here to fit with the image of the Welsh as the 'heirs' of the Roman tradition in Britain, plus some reinterpreting of welsh national symbols in roman styles.
dontfearme22  [author] May 17, 2018 @ 3:28pm
@[ROC] Erwin Ah, shoulda guessed - I'm going to focus on my mod for now and I can always explore submods for compatabilities sake down the road. Its a lot of work and given we are both going to be updating well past this point it would be a wasted endeavor to put in a lot of manhours for a mod version that could be outdated before I even release it. I can see the appeal though.
