After citadel got destroyed their commanding chips in heads got dammaged so they get their free will back, or simly rebels stealed combine uniforms

Overwatch soldiers have no cognitive functions in HL2. HLA combine were capable of thought and had limited free will but not enough to defect.

dedrabbits, the memory cleansing is good, but not perfect. If some memories are not affected or removed by brainwashing, combine soldiers can still remember past experinces. As a result, the combine soldier might become docile to the resistance and may try to live a normal life. Then, all it takes is a bit of persuation and allas...a combine defect. Definently not happening to Elites or anything higher in the ranks though

@La grotte Johnny, Sadly that can't happen due to the surgery the overwatch soldiers get, the process brainwashes them and removes a lot of parts of they're brain that make them human. However metro-cops could join up with the resistance science they have no cybernetic enhancements.

This is what happens if the combines realize what they're doing is wrong and decides to get revenge on the emperor of the combine empire by joining the rebels or if they remember who are they since they were people

This makes me want to join The Combine only to retreat to the Rebels.

I can only see rebel Combine infantry being plausible if they're converted humans who had a malfunction in their mind control, the rebels found a way to reprogram/restore Combine soldiers they've captured or they're just rebels who simply stole and repainted the uniforms.
