I enjoyed it. Very well done.

@Lusoka Thank you for leaving a review to my first mod ever. If you liked "the Wine Merchant's basement", be sure to check out "the awakening of Taarnab" too.
Lusoka Apr 11, 2021 @ 11:56am
Maybe I missed a sword at the start, but since I only had a dagger, upgraded to spear later, I was mostly the whiff master and was mostly obnoxious for a good portion of the beginning. Once I got a sword, it was fine. Most of the time after that was just looking for secrets, which obviously can take a long time scanning each wall. Pits seemed to always have nothing, which isn't a fault of design, just a possible reward from most other mods/main game. Gotta check it!

Honestly, despite the fact that after a bit you can run into a good sword, I'd probably just go monk next time just for a better early game, unless there was some sort of sword lying around somewhere at the start.

Was good though.

Took me three tries to beat the final boss, a fitting challange to this great adventure.

@Saizig If you liked the wine merchant's basement, be sure to check out "the awakening of Taarnab", another mod I made.
Saizig Nov 2, 2020 @ 1:34pm
Excellent work, Mahric! This was a lot of fun. A neat story and some fun puzzles and secrets. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a good adventure.
p_vastardis Apr 25, 2020 @ 12:04am
i played it and its mainly puzzle related rather than fighting, which is good and less boring. But leveling system is bad, it creates powerful characters too fast untill the middle of the game with no reason. So 3,5 out of 5 stars. Finally the story is a bid boring but gameplay is ok
Nyrella Aug 28, 2019 @ 12:56am
Just finished it, with 2 bottles ;)
Great mode! I really enjoyed it!
Bravo!!

@mudgrubber1 Thank you, awesome you liked it. Maybe you want to try my 2nd mod too, called "The Awakening ofTaarnab"
mudgrubber1 Jun 16, 2018 @ 10:31pm
I really enjoyed this mod. Puzzles were thought-provoking but not difficult. Even if one is prepared that final battle can still be tough. Great mod!
Mahric  [author] Apr 18, 2018 @ 10:56am
@selmi Thank you, this is the reason why i make mods! If you liked this one, be sure to try "The Awakening of Taarnab", the second mod I made.
selmi Apr 18, 2018 @ 4:20am
this was best mod i have seen so far. lot of unexpected turns and still very playable without need to search for help in forums or google. great work!
Mahric  [author] Apr 16, 2018 @ 7:12am
@brewer5753 Thanks, glad you liked it! If you liked this mod, be sure to try "The Awakening of Taarnab". It has a nice story, lots of unique puzzles too!

GREAT GAME, could have been even better if you had full crew in party. but very good loved it. thanks for your hard work on this game
Mahric  [author] Jan 19, 2018 @ 9:58am
@Ian_Fitz

There is exactly one spot where there is no daemon at the north, south, east and west. You might start by trying to stand there for a while.
Oh, and a while longer.
Pro tip: and even longer than you think is needed. No, really!
fish Jan 15, 2018 @ 4:13pm
how do i complete the puzzle escape my gaze until rewarded
Xello May 20, 2017 @ 3:25am
Very good. Good enough to make me write a comment, which I never do!
Mahric  [author] Feb 12, 2017 @ 8:53am
@Not Caesar Zeppeli follow these steps to solve the puzzle:
- Look for the mark on the wall and only step into portals with that mark
- when you see the text "but the innocent have nothing to fear" (or something like that) take the stairs up
- Press the secret button on the left wall and pick up the golden dragon
- Then go down again. Follow the mark until you read the text "takes off in the sky"
- Go up the stairs and stand on the pressure plate. A secret door will open and you're done.

If you take a wrong turn you'll be teleported to a decoy spot, but after a bit you'll start at the beginning again.
Mahric  [author] Feb 12, 2017 @ 8:45am
@Nyrella Nope, sorry.
Fluid Druid Jan 21, 2017 @ 11:37pm
How do I complete the puzzle where it starts off at "Where the dragon flies, he leaves his mark... Follow him!"
Nyrella Jan 15, 2017 @ 10:03am
@mahric: thanks for the answar but i meant: i have 2 more corpses (bones). it is possible to resurrecht them too, and have so 6 chars? crystals don't work ;)
Mahric  [author] Jan 14, 2017 @ 12:19am
@Nyrella If you have at least one living character you can go to a blue healing crystal and touch it to resurrect your corpses. If you have no living team members then the only thing you can do is to reload a previous save. If you don't have one, let me know and I will provide you with one.
Mahric  [author] Jan 14, 2017 @ 12:16am
@Stainless Well you actually can't finish the last room. After all are you really Malbona's heraldm or did you just wanted to get some wine?
baboon Jan 3, 2017 @ 9:21am
Mahric, hello!
Thank you for such interesting mod! But could you give me a little tip please - how to complete last test of Malbona? (5x5 pit-room, lights)
Nyrella Jan 1, 2017 @ 10:49am
i have 2 corpses, how can the come to life? :/

@Magnesium Fluoride
Thanks, glad you liked it! If you liked this mod, be sure to try "The Awakening of Taarnab".
It has a nice story, lots of new puzzles too!
Magnesium Fluoride Jun 28, 2015 @ 9:15pm
Really enjoyed the dungeon. The puzzles were well designed. My favorite being the "Gaze avoiding" puzzle. The story was pretty good and the difficulty was appropriate.

Shocked that the wine was actually included in the mod as an easter egg!
feerieland Apr 20, 2015 @ 10:06am
Just finished it, congratulation to the author it was a great experience and a nice story. Not too easy and not to hard, the puzzles are just fine for me, maybe a little more of creatures would have been appreciate. Anyway I highly recommand this mod and i'll try your others mods with pleasure

Hope you don't mind, if I just put the link here. :)
talesfrom-hell.blogspot.cz/2015/03/wine-merchants-basement-jack-style.html
And I'll be sure to check the awakening of taarnab probably this weekend. :) Thanks for the tip.
Mahric  [author] Mar 25, 2015 @ 9:18am
Sure, no problem at all. Don't hesitate to post it and send me a link.

If you finished this mod and liked it, be sure to give "the awakening of taarnab" a go, another mod I made. :)
a.elfwind Mar 21, 2015 @ 1:01pm
Yeah, I definitely enjoyed the story. Actually, i enjoyed it so much I turned it into fanfiction. :D Hope that's okay with you? I made sure to put your name in the disclaimer.
Mahric  [author] Mar 19, 2015 @ 12:31pm
I didn't know it was possible, thanks for the heads up.

But I don't think you'll break anything, maybe the fights will be a bit easier. This mod is a lot about the story, and you can enjoy it at any level. Have fun!
a.elfwind Mar 19, 2015 @ 12:24pm
I actually think it's a glitch of sorts, because I accidentally imported a party before I remembered that this had predetermined characters and I already started the game. And well, the party I imported had unasigned skill points and I think that those carried over to the mod...
Is that even possible?
Mahric  [author] Feb 24, 2015 @ 7:53am
I've had other complain that malbona was too hard, needing lots of attempts. Guess you're good at analysing what happens around you (or just very lucky :) )
a.elfwind Feb 21, 2015 @ 8:47am
It took me less than a minute to defeat Malbona in the boss fight. Is that just me or did it happen to anyone else?
Puzzlefuzz Dec 26, 2014 @ 3:15am
The first mod I have played, and I must say I am delighted about the passion and skill put into the creation of this adventure. A very surprising plot twist was added about 2/3 through the game too, very well done!
Jathy Dec 18, 2014 @ 3:50am
Very well done, I enjoyed playing it alot. The story is suspenseful.
Highly recommended.
Aliceria Dec 8, 2014 @ 8:13am
That Dungeon was well Made and enjoyable. The Story was OK. better than some others Custom Dugenos ;) A (resolving) Ending wold have don well but i think it fits in concept.

Well where is my Wine
BC Oct 22, 2014 @ 8:31am
Aside from the incredibly stupid dialogue, this mod was pretty enjoyable.
Although I was surprised that Malbona "The 12 y/o Edgelord" didn't have a monologue at the end.
Oh and rehashing a puzzle (4 description matching items) in a short dungeon is pretty lazy.
Mahric  [author] Sep 21, 2014 @ 3:12am
If you liked this mod, make sure you check out my other one, called the Awakening of Taarnab.
CrackSmokingWarlock Sep 20, 2014 @ 1:35pm
Absolutely fantastic mod. The only possible complaint I could make is that the game frequently takes controls away from the player for the sake of dialogue, but I can't really hold that against the creator since I can't think of any other way to have done it.
GOGO Jun 29, 2014 @ 8:40am
very very very good adventur
sGreml1n Jun 24, 2014 @ 3:59pm
loved it. particularly the flow of gaining party members as the game progressed
Mahric  [author] Jun 21, 2014 @ 12:46am
@Brian
Thanks, great you liked it. If you want ,also try my other mod, The Awakening of Taarnab.
Brian Jun 20, 2014 @ 7:01pm
Great work Decoy. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Kslo42 May 16, 2014 @ 11:55am
Excellent adventure. Loved the storyline and npc interaction. Puzzles were well thought out and required a little thinking, but didn't reach the point of frustration. Only needed help with 1 puzzle, the mystic doorway :) I recommend this mod to anyone who plays Legend of Grimrock. Kudos to Decoy!
Ningauble Feb 27, 2014 @ 9:09am
Superb. An original story and a unique take on the dungeon. I think even Pavlov would have recommended this mod.
Mahric  [author] Dec 27, 2013 @ 2:50am
@Machallan
Thank ou for enjoying this mod. Reactions like these are exactly why I wanted to make them. If you liked this mod, you might also check out "the awakening of taarnab", the second mod I made.

* raises his glass of wine * cheers!
Crackling Cosmogone Dec 26, 2013 @ 11:53am
Good evening mister Decoy, I just finished your dungeon, and, I found it... Awesome! You've done a very very good work, on the the soundtrack and the narration, wich makes me think that this mod is perhaps even better than the original game. The only default (in my opinion), is the history maybe a bit too Portal Like.
Thank you very much, I hope you're going to get a glass of wine to celebrate!
Mahric  [author] Dec 11, 2013 @ 7:21am
@NightShade Thanks for trying my mod and I'm glad you like it.

I made another mod, called "the awakening of taarnab". I'd advise you to give that a whirl if you didn't already do so. It contains lot's of puzzles and another nice story.
