Patch v1.8 - Fine-tuning

This small patch aims to reign in the outliers in La Reina's kit in terms of hitbox size and KO power, as well as allowing opponents to better limit her recovery options by knocking her chair into the blastzone.

Chair
- La Reina can now only create one new chair per air time. Catching the chair with NSpecial or landing on non-fan-platform ground restores this resource.

Quality of life
= Uair accelerates downward faster now, resulting in less frustrating unactionable time for the opponent. Damage scaling over time adjusted to account for this.
+ Added a new colour.

Knockback
- Fair knockback scaling decreased: 1.05 -> 1.0
- Minimum USpecial knockback scaling decreased: 1.15 -> 1.0

Hitboxes
- Utilt hitboxes narrowed very slightly to reduce backward disjoint.
- Fstrong grab box narrowed to extend less inwards into La Reina's body.

Patch v1.6 - Post-Genesis

Quick Overview
• Several hitboxes adjusted to better fit the animations
• Tweaks to her power budget; small nerfs to frustrating moves and small buffs to underused moves
• Polish, bugfixes and quality-of-life changes

This patch has lots of tiny changes, but it should feel very similar when playing.

Normals
• Hitboxes of Jab, Dair, Ftilt, Fstrong and Ustrong adjusted to better fit the animations.
- Fstrong has reduced maximum backwards drift during the suplex variant.
• Dattack’s hurtbox updated to match the animation.

Specials

NSpecial
- Projectile hitstun multiplier 0.9 → 0.8
Still gives La Reina plenty of time to combo off of chair pulls, while making the move less annoying overall.

+ Melee knockback scaling for the main hit increased from 0.87 → 0.93
+ Melee knockback scaling for the back hit increased from 0.7 → 0.8
La Reina’s big chair swing has deliberately low base knockback to avoid stealing the spotlight from her grappling kit. However, it’s a slow move that isn’t accessible during most of her gameplan, so we’re slightly improving its scaling to diversify her edgeguard and KO options.

+ La Reina can now properly catch the chair when directly next to a wall.

FSpecial
- FSpecial-Down spike base knockback / scaling reduced from 6.5 / 0.8 → 6 / 0.75
+ FSpecial’s endlag on whiff can now be edgecanceled for cool movement. :)
• Increased vertical speed during FSpecial-Forward/Back. Increased horizontal drift to compensate.
The final change reduces the move’s total execution time, decreasing frustrating inactionable time for opponents. This also makes La Reina less vulnerable when grabbing her own chair.

USpecial
• Knockback scaling formula adjusted from 1.2 (min) / 1.77 (max) → 1.15 (min) / 1.88 (max)
Knockback vs grounded opponents using a grounded USpecial remains identical (1.2)
However, it should now feel less frustrating for opponents who miss their edge guards against La Reina, and better for La Reina players who manage to land that perfect maximum height piledriver.

DSpecial
- Executing the first window of the roll will now put DSpecial on a short cooldown while in the air.
This change is very specific and should be completely unnoticeable during normal gameplay: it just removes an extremely-difficult-but-technically-possible infinite recovery strategy.

Bugfixes and global changes
+ Dair’s upper grab box now correctly grabs the chair.
+ Grab hitboxes are no longer techable.
+ Addressed a rare bug where landing on stage during a grab could cause pratfall.
+ Fixed a bug where certain specific moves (such as Olympia NSpecial explosion) hitting the chair would remove hitpause from the next move to hit the chair.
+ In games with 3 or 4 players, La Reina has soft_armor = 13.8 while grabbing an opposing player.
This change should make La Reina’s grab-based playstyle more functional in multiplayer games.
For reference, Kragg’s forward air breaks 13.8 soft armor at 70% damage (before the hit).

Cosmetic
+ Added two new alts
+ Added charselect.ogg

Patch v1.5

- Hotfix for a rare issue that could cause La Reina to become frozen in an invincible state when airdodging after interacting with another La Reina's chair.

Update: Feb 4, 2024 @ 5:10pm

Patch v1.4 | Ready for Genesis X!

Balance:
- Fixed fspec-down's base knockback and scaling. 6.5 / 0.8 -> 6 / 0.7
(This was an intended nerf that didn't actually make it into the previous patch)
- Standardized Utilt whifflag, which increased from 17 to 21.

Minor:
= Dstrong's window structure slightly modified to fix a sound timing issue. Dstrong now starts charging 3 frames earlier, but releases 3 frames later for essentially identical frame data.

Cosmetic:
= Added different fan signs for the Genesis X alt
= Fixed a handful of stray pixels on the main ring sprite
= Adjusted dattack's hit vfx offsets to better fit the move, particularly the spike hitbox

Update: Jan 27, 2024 @ 5:12pm

Small bugfix patch.

• Added a small Tip and Techniques section to La Reina's Steam page with animated examples.
• Fixed an issue with priority 0 hitboxes affecting the chair.
• Addressed an issue that caused the chair to teleport to La Reina's hands during Neutral Special chair pull.
• Restored missing hit sfx on Fair sourspot.
• Added a preliminary Genesis alt.

PATCH NOTES | v1.2

Greetings, loyal fans! La Reina’s contest-ready build is just over a week old, and we’ve been positively floored by the love you all have shown her. Thank you!

Today’s patch aims to address some of the more common issues that La Reina players have pointed out since her release: We’re giving her some tune-ups on the SFX side of things so that her sound timings better match her animations, buffing her frame data very slightly on select moves to aid her in close-quarters brawls, and making DI against her easier for opponents by standardizing a few of her more bizarre launch angles and nerfing outlier kill moves.

This patch is mostly aimed at tweaking numbers and fixing bugs: patches with further quality-of-life changes are in the works.

Aerials

Neutral Air
+ Startup reduced from 7 to 6. Now hits on frame 7.
Nair is already great, but this change should help La Reina win in scraps more often after getting in against characters trying to zone her out.

Forward Air
+ Startup reduced from 12 to 11. Now hits on frame 12.
+ Hitbox lifetimes increased from 1 to 2.
= Added a swipe sound effect and retimed the clap sound effect to better match the animation.
= The sweetspot sound effect now fades to a lower volume more quickly.

Back Air
- Grab hitbox lifetime decreased from 4 to 3.
Bair is a very rewarding move, so we’re reducing the lingering effect of the grab hitbox just a bit to encourage more precision.

Up Air
+ Grab startup decreased from 14 to 13.
= Back breaker damage now scales with distance dropped. Whereas previously the move dealt a flat 10%, it now deals 8% at minimum height, up to a maximum of 14%.
Uair is an awesome combo tool; now it should be ever so slightly easier to route into and more rewarding to do so nearer the top blastzone or off stage.

Down Air
+ Increased the lifetime of the upper grab hitbox from 1 to 2.
- Decreased the lifetime of the lower grab hitbox from 3 to 2.
= Throw launch angle changed from 80 to 90.
= Retimed the first swipe sound to better match the animation.
= Added swipe sound effect to the up throw motion.
Opponents should now have more realistic and easier DI mixups against Dair, and follow-ups at low and middling percentages will be easier for La Reina if she correctly reads her opponent’s DI.

Ground normals

Forward Tilt
+ Retimed animation so that the hitbox appears with the smear, while frame data remains the same.
= Retimed swoosh sound effect
Ftilt was already a stellar move; now it should feel even better to press and will trade in situations where it previously would have been stuffed on startup.

Up Tilt
= Retimed swoosh sound effect to better match the animation.
= Removed stray transparent pixels.
+ Updated hurtbox to match the animation.

Down Tilt
+ Reduced startup from 4 to 3. Now hits on frame 4.
= Retimed swoosh sound effect to better match the animation.
La Reina lacked a 4-frame button to help her win close quarters speed contests. Up close is where the Queen of KOs should shine, so we’re giving Dtilt a tiny speed boost.

Up Strong
- Strong hit angle changed from 80 to 50.
- Knockback scaling lowered from 1.25 to 1.2.
These changes should make La Reina’s Ustrong much easier to DI, while keeping its kill power roughly the same.

Down Strong
= Retimed swoosh sound effect to match the animation.

Specials

Steel Chair
+ The chair now takes reduced knockback from projectiles.
+ Uair, Uspecial and FSpecial-forward/backward now have reduced hitpause when performed against the chair.
The first change should increase the chair’s utility as a tool against projectile zoners. The second will make La Reina less vulnerable when grabbing the chair with her particularly slow throws.

Neutral Special (Chair Swing)
= Added missing swoosh sound effect.

Down Special (Chair Slam)
+ Reduced startup from 18 to 15. Now hits on frame 16.
= The last window after placing the chair was being skipped, but now plays. This adds 3 frames of recovery to the end of the move, so the total duration remains the same.
= Added missing swoosh sound effect.
A little frame data buff on the chair slam should help La Reina get her trusty tag-team partner out at ground level in matchups for which she needs it to approach. As an added bonus, it will be easier to combo into as well!

Forward Special
- Grab hitbox no longer breaks projectiles.
= Reduced horizontal speed when parried.
= Fspecial-forward/back Base Hitpause reduced from 18 to 17
- Fspecial-down Base Knockback: 6.5 -> 6
- Fspecial-down Knockback Scaling: 0.8 -> 0.7
These changes should address Fspecial’s strange interactions and reduce the spike option’s outlandish killpower.

Up Special
= Angle changed from 80 to 90
- Knockback Scaling formula decreased from 1.3 (min) - 2.6 (max) to 1.2 (min) - 1.8 (max)
+ Base Knockback increased from 7 to 8
Polarity Piledriver is still a strong finishing move, but its angle will now be easier to DI. Its knockback formula has also been adjusted to KO at more reasonable percentages when dropping from mid/high heights.

Colours
+ Added two new alts!
+ La Reina’s green palette now comes with a stylish pink chair.

Bug Fixes

* The chair now accounts for angle 361 and interacts properly with Down Strong.
Down Strong was a useful chair-positioning tool in previous patches and was inadvertently nerfed. This functionality has been restored.

* Fixed an issue with certain grabs not ending if another La Reina dies and the grab was performed against that La Reina's chair.

* Fixed an issue where La Reina could cancel Nair into itself if done immediately after spawning the steel chair with Down Special.
