I have no doubt that air transportation would generate profit, it just seems like (at least within sandbox mode) that you can get to the point of a perpetual self-sustaining company before you can invest in air travel, which makes it irrelevant for the goal of trying to get to the point of perpetual self-sustaining company.
Never the less, I would be very curious to hear about your insights on both water and air transporation, as you seem to have become better at both than I ever was.
If you would like, we could discuss this in greater detail and I could add your findings (with credit of course) to this document.
I would assume that your passengers aren't getting on because they either don't want to go where the coach is going, or because the coach is full when it drives by and there's no room for them.
If you zoom in you can actually get down to the person level and click on them and I think (if I remember correctly) you can see their desired destination.
