Originally started as Hotline Miami fan art. It still is.

A top down gamemode that is pretty much based on how toxic and greedy gmod community is nowadays.

Featuring 5 gametypes (can be changed by pressing F3 in-game):

Story Mode (can be accessed by starting via singleplayer)
Dive into 20+ levels of what gmod really is about today. Youtubers, greedy people, obsessed server owners and other horrifying things. Also features 8 playable characters.

RDM gametype
Simple deathmatch with player/bots. 6 available characters.
Axecution gametype
1 vs all PVE/PVP gametype, where one player has to eliminate everyone on a DarkRP server. 3 available characters.
Serious Drama gametype
PVP only gametype with 2 teams (community), where one has to ddos/destroy another, just like in real gmod. 4 available characters.
Nemesis gametype
4 player only survival gametype, where you fight off a horde of greedy coders, who are hungry for your wallets and flesh. 4 available characters.

Yeah, I can see how annoying that would have been. Base maps are good only for the basics of testing like the camera angle and gun play, but that's really about it. Once custom maps started coming out, things could really be taken to the next level. (Speaking of maps, shout out to Danny Judas for a decent chunk of them)

It's not super hard to make a top down thing in gmod, but it was annoying to dealwith stock maps until I had to get some help with customs maps that were just one plain floor

That is true, so then the 10 year bit is nothing more than a 10 anniversary of the full release if you think about it. Though to say it was the "full release" made it seem like it was more accurate to a early access, since at launch there was only RDM, and I think Serious Drama (could be wrong about that), and then over time we got the rest i.e. story, new game modes etc.

I'm curious though, how difficult was it to develop the prototype in it's initial heydays?
I imagine not easy since Gmod isn't really designed for a game mode of this play style.

Technically, the first SoG prototype was made around November 2013th, judging from my early videos
