I don't know if there are any modder groups which are working on a set of features to renew the game, but in any case I would suggest you to build a detailed list of wanted features and posting it somewhere publicly available so that anyone could take a look.
The game seriously needs so many things! Fluid dynamics! Procedural map generation. More flora/fauna. Better NPCs. I could go on....
If you have any ideas on how to improve the game, by introducing new features which can enrichen the medieval experience of the game, let me know. I will say in advance that I can't guarantee anything but I'll definitely try and see if it is doable and worth it.
