How to find a Competitive Match in CSGO!

I know a lot of people have trouble with this, so I will attempt to make this guide as simple as possible.

Opening CSGO

Suprisingly, many people forget this simple, yet most important step.


Find the desktop icon titled Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.


Next, double LEFT click (if you right click your computer will explode) the CSGO icon. If you are unsure of what the CSGO icon looks like, consult the image above.

As an alternative to double left clicking, you could also Right click (Make Sure you DO NOT right click TWICE) then press open. If this is too confusing for you, please, view the image below.

Waiting through the loading screen :/

Now for the most boring, long and drawn out part, waiting thru the loading screen.

If you've made it up to this point congrats! Not many people make it this far. That being said, you are in for the biggest challenge of your life.

While most people think a loading screen is exactly what it sounds like ( a screen shown while the game is loading) - it is not. Rather, it is a test of your patience, patience that will be vital once you get into that game of competitive matchmaking.

Understanding the very confusing UI.

As we all know, CSGO is not known for its simple UI, am I right guys LOL. But seriously, this can be a lot to take in all at once, so here i will do a simple breakdown of the UI for you!





As you can see, it truly is simple.

Select Play

I cannot makie it simpler than this. Press Play. If you are stuck on this step, check the image below, as it should resolve any confusions you have.

Now what?

Now that you have pressed play, 5 new options have appeared! Oh, NO!


Don't worry, you aren't being hacked.


If you are looking at this confused as heck, I don't blame you. At one point in my CSGO career I was stuck with understanding these 5 options for myself. Thankfully for you, my guide is here to help.

Once these 5 options appear, you will want to hit "find a game".

Selecting Competitive

Since we are trying to play a game of "Competitive" Counterstrike, we will select "competitive" from the choices above. Use this image for reference if you are having trouble.

Which Map Should I Pick?

Which Maps should I put into my queue is a very common question among all of those who play CSGO.

There is only one answer, and anyone who tries to tell you different, no matter what rank they are, is wrong.

The ONLY map you should have selected is Dust 2.

Dust 2 is the 8th Map if you read the map names left to right. If this is confusing to you, just look at the image below for a more in depth idea of where Dust 2 actually is.

Pressing "GO"

Before we finally get into a competitive game of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, I would like to congratulate you on reaching this point. This is a very rough journey for all players, so to get here is a milestone in itself. That's why many people find themselves very emotional when clicking "GO" for the first time.

Before you attempt to select "GO", just know that I had a wonderful time instructing you on how to become a master at find a match of CSGO competitive. I will never forget you, and I hope you will never forget me.
