1.The Basics
Who is Kapkan? And what does he do?
Maxim Basuda A.K.A Kapkan, is one of two defense operators hailing from the Spetsnaz CTU. His gadget is the EDD MK II (Entry Denial Device MK II) This is a booby trap that screws into door frames and acts as a laser tripmine similar to a claymore. When the laser tripwire is disturbed it will explode sending shrapnel in the direction the charge is facing, either left or right. Yet it is always parallel to the door opening. The EDD MK II can also be placed on windows. Kapkan gets three EDD MK II devices by default.

Kapkan can take one SMG and one shotgun, with a choice of two handguns, they are as follows.

SMG's
9x19 VSN

Shotguns
SASG-12

Handguns
PMM 9
GSh-18

Kapkan is a 3 armor 1 speed operator, so do not expect to be racing around the map flinging traps left and right.
2.The Equipment
In this section we will be going over the weapons and loadouts Kapkan has access to

SMG's
9x19 VSN
Damage: 34
RoF: 750
Mobility: 50
Capacity: 30 (+1)

This is Kapkans only SMG while it is a hard hitting SMG, the recoil is a bit on the high side for an SMG, although manageable.

Personal Loadout:
Optic:Red Dot/Reflex
Muzzle:Compensator
Grip:Vertical Foregrip
Underbarrel:Cmon, you really think im gonna put a fookin laseh soight there?

Why i do what i do: Optics of course are preference, and the compensator with the VFG makes this weapon a smooth shooter

Some other things you can try: Play around with different optics or muzzle attachments to see what fits your playstyle the best. I believe that the 9x19 does support the Angled Foregrip so you can try that out as well if you're a snapshooter.

Where to aim: Center of mass with this SMG will destroy your opponent quickly, however if you want the recoil to get you a headshot the chest and up will work

Shotguns
SASG-12 (Better known as "The Sausage")
Damage: 47
RoF: ~260
Mobility: 50
Capacity: 10 (+1)

The Sausage is the shotgun that Kapkan can take, this thing is a beast in close range outshining all semi auto shotguns for CQC but past CQC this thing is as useful as a water gun, you can still get kills but you will succeed more by shooting from behind at mid range.

Personal Loadout
Optic:Reflex
Muzzle:Suppressor
Grip:VFG
Underbarrel:A big ol fookin laseh soight

Why i do what i do: this gun is the most ridiculous thing to be killed by Imho so the suppressor taking it down to 39 damage is still very viable and is just funny to light people up with.

Some other things you can try BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG

Handguns
PMM 9mm
Damage: 63
RoF: ~420
Mobility: 50
Capacity: 8 (+1)

The PMM is the hard hitter of the two handguns Kapkan can take, why a 9mm handgun does more damage than the other 9mm handgun Kapkan can take is beyond me, but we dont question that.

Personal Loadout:
Muzzle:Suppressor
Underbarrel:No.

Why i do what i do: i like suppressors tbh, they just fit me.

Some other things you can do: play around with other attachments or Laser Sights, you do you boo boo.

GSh-18 9mm
Damage: 33
RoF: ~360
Mobility: 50
Capacity: 18 (+1)

This is the second handgun Kapkan can take and trades firepower for capacity.

Personal Loadout:
Muzzle:none
Underbarrel:none

Why i do what i do: i do not like this handgun personally, the sights are weird to me, so i use PMM.

Some other things you can try: literally anything with this.

3.How to play Kapkan
Easy Version
1.Screw trap into really obscure spot
2.Run away
3.Profit and Slav Squat as shown in picture below cackling in IDI NAHUI

Advanced Version

There is a few ways you can play Kapkan, the most popular being the common sense answer, place your traps around the objective. This is an easy way to get them shot to be honest, especially if the other team knows you have a Kapkan. the best way ive found is sporadically place them throughout the map in just random odd locations. this more often than not nets you at least one kill.
mainly put them in entrances or doors to rooms that you think they will try to find cover in. its really hit and miss
4.Tips and tricks
In this section ill go over some easy tips for Kapkan

-You can place Kapkan traps at any elevation on doors, from around an operators ankle height, to their head height, its a bit limited on windows however and i dont normally place traps on windows, it usually is right in their face and they can see it while peeking without even looking for it

-If you are pairing with a frost, do not double up on doors, the kapkan trap will explode and destroy the frost trap and sometimes wont even kill the enemy operator. Better to divvy up your zoning to maximize your trap efficiency

-I've only ever pulled this off once, and it was mainly luck, but you can wait at a main door and listen, if you hear somebody rushing or you hear them coming, plant a charge, and run. The one time i got this to work was when an Ash rushed while i was placing a trap, she came in a second or two later and got blown to bits. I do not recommend this strategy due to its high risk nature.

-Sometimes you dont need to place your traps all around the same area, placing them all in different spots can be more beneficial if you ask me. Since they are not like Frost traps you do not need to gravitate near your traps at all times.

@Joshhhuaaa, His traps are quite easy to see. And if they are invisible it is not due to bad developers. it is due to exploits. the bug containing invisible kapkan wires has been fixed.

Kapkan is awesome, he gets kill because noobs can't see traps and dunno how to play games, We all love ubisoft.

@Backtoast the original models did. Modern models use 9x18mm Makarov, however they still can use .380 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makarov_pistol
thebakedtoast May 25, 2017 @ 11:45pm
The Makarov used 380. Auto, not 9mm

WHO CAN? KAPCAN!
SlashLion  [author] May 24, 2017 @ 1:04pm
@ReverendTed Thanks for the insight and extra tips! I will admit some of these things simply dont come to me when im writing my guides as i just write them when im waiting for ranked queues, so this will definitely be input at some point soon! im currently working on a Thermite guide so be on the lookout for that! Thanks again!

In MP, it might be useful to place the trap low on a door, barricade the doorway, and then knock a couple of panels out near the top. This way the enemy may get up close to melee the door open and not see the trap. I only just considered this and haven't had a chance to try out the tactic.

Finally, I know this is primarily a multiplayer guide, but in THunt it can be useful to knock down barricades on doorways you plan to trap, because the tangos will often use a breach charge, destroying the trap.
ReverendTed May 23, 2017 @ 11:12pm
I've seen Kapkan traps effective when placed behind portable barriers in doorways. Enemy has to vault over the barrier and trips the trap they couldn't see. (Very similar to Frost bear traps.)

Placing them around the objective can be useful if the round runs long - Attackers often decide to rush the objective if time has nearly run out and that's the most common time I've gotten EDD kills. :actime:=:crossbones:

Do you know if the trap does less damage at ankle height? I always place mine from crouch.

Also, I didn't see it mentioned that you can "pick" which side (left or right) of the door or window frame the EDD is placed on by looking in that direction when placing. That wasn't immediately obvious to me when I was first playing Kapkan, and it can make difference in where the enemy has to stand to shoot your trap.

@Беркут My apologies. Will be fixed
