DirectX 8.1 Fix for Windows 10

This guide will walk you through the steps for getting Conflict: Desert Storm to run on the Windows 10 operating system.

Introduction

You've just installed Conflict: Desert Storm on your Windows 10 machine, but when you try to launch it, you get this error:



Many older games depend on DirectPlay, a former component of Microsoft's DirectX API, to run.

By default, DirectPlay is disabled in Windows 10. This is what causes the error.

Here's how to enable it!

Enabling DirectPlay in Windows 10

Right-click the Windows start menu icon and click "Search".



Type "turn windows features on or off" and click "Turn Windows features on or off" below "Best match".



Scroll down to "Legacy Components".



Click the "+" to the left of "Legacy Components".



Put a tick in the box next to "DirectPlay".



Click "OK" and the following window will appear.







Click "Close" and try launching the game from your Steam library.

You should now see the Conflict: Desert Storm launcher.



If you see the launcher, you should be good to go!

i have windows 11 and game works, but barely, i keep getting stuck on hidden walls, my guy floats and get stuck trying to go down slopes like streets on the second mission and or hills with paths. its worse with my AI team mates too, i cant get the game to function right at all, and its unplayable. its a shame too because my brother and i use to play this game all the time back on ps2 with zero problems. ugh

Hey, can you help me out with remapping my keys for conflict desert storm 1 and conflict vietnam? The option for restoring to default is there, but I can't change the keys. Thats just weird, right?

So now that I have booted the game up... Do you have a walkthrough on how to stop the floating issue whenever I need to walk downhill laying around somewhere? Maybe another one to help fix the mouse sensitivity?

I'm trying to run a vastly different game. My DirectPlay component has found ticked and it's unnecessary to refresh anything. The game also wants DirectX 8.1 and japanese. I'm using Locale Emulator and Japanese language set on Windows 10. The installation does not progress and requests the disk 1 to mount even if it's already mounted and it says the partition has probably be moved or deleted whilst I didn't do such a thing at all.

I have a rather annoying issue with the game, where I constantly walk forward. I can disconnect my keyboard and mouse, and still walk forward
