1. Peripherals
Hardware isn´t everything, a good player with peripherals beneath his requirements is still a good player and will still perform well, however, having the right peripherals allows you to push your performance to its best. I originally didn´t want to include this section, since I know that money is a big limitation for many people, nevertheless I thought it would be worth losing some words to each hardware piece and providing some helpful weblinks for those willing to spend money. The recommendations are based on pro player choices, as well as personal experience.

  • Gaming Mouse
A proper gaming mouse is arguably the most essential peripheral (besides a PC that runs CSGO at a playable frame rate). Contrary to popular belief, having many buttons doesn´t make a mouse better than a mouse with just a few extra buttons. When buying a gaming mouse the number of extra buttons should not be the key buying point. Gaming mice with many extra buttons like this[images10.newegg.com] transformer usually dont fit the purpose of csgo. The most important factor for a gaming mouse, that is used for csgo, is the sensor. There are many different details on the sensor, but we won´t dig any deeper. The 3 most recommended gaming mice for shooters are the Zowie EC2-A[www.amazon.com], which renounces all the RGB gimmicks and arguable has the very best sensor on the current market, the Razer Deathadder[www.amazon.com], which is, regardless of people claiming that it is overpriced, a very solid mouse with a top notch sensor and many software features that is recommended by many pro players, and the Logitech G502 Proteus[www.amazon.com] which has a very similar sensor, great hardware features and weight adjustments.
  • A good mousepad
Having a good gaming mouse will do very little if you don´t place it on top of a proper surface. In contrast to gaming mice, a good gaming mousepad can be purchased for less than 10$, and makes an extremely big difference. Some people prefer using a hard plastic mousepad, however, most players recommend using a cloth/soft mousepad that should be relatively large. One of many great options is the Steelseries QCK Mouse Pad[www.amazon.com], but buying no name products won´t make a big difference, as long as it feels comfortable and smooth while moving your mouse.
  • Headset/Headphones
Some people may ask why I included headphones in the titlem the reason is very simple: Gaming Headsets is a name that is given to many products to justify a heavy price for relatively low quality in return. Sound is a big factor in csgo, therefore you want to make sure to be able to spot even the smallest footstep. If you decide buying headphones, keep in mind that they do not inlclude a microphone which is necessary to communicate with your team, however there are very cheap attachable microphones out there (for instance this one[www.amazon.com]). The most recommended gaming headset is the HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset[www.amazon.com] which comes with a very solid sound, microphone and build quality. As for headphones, Sennhaiser[www.amazon.com] is the most known brand, however, other headphones could serve their purpose as well.
  • Keyboard
Having a good keyboard is pure comfort, as long as it has self-evident features such as anti-ghostins, which almost every keyboard has nowadays. Nonetheless many people like the comfort, increased life span and slightly better actuation point a good keyboard brings with it. Since I dont want to go into any detail here I will just list 1, extremely underrated and great mechanical RGB keyboard. Unfotunately the Titanwolf Imperial[www.amazon.de] isn´t avaible in all countries, but it can definitely keep up with premium competitors
2. Mouse and Sensitivity Configuration
A good gaming mouse on its own wont make the huge difference if your settings aren´t on point. Please bear in mind that particulary sensivity settings are a very personal preference so please experiment with them to find the one that suits you the most. Nevertheless there are certain sensitivity values that should be a rough orientation for you to find your own. Why am I saying this? Everytime I see new player and ask for his sens he´ll tell me some astronauticly high number. Yes you´ll have to get used to it but please keep in mind that (although you can get global by playing with a high sens) CSGO is a game that is usually played with a low sens. Think about it for a second: You dont need to be able to do a 360 with one mouse swipe? In what situation would you need that big of a turn? The biggest turn you effectively need ingame is a 180, therefore there´s no need to turn up your sens that high. You´ll get useed to it eventually, dont worry, we all went through this, you just have to jump into the cold water once. Let´s jump into it, shall we?
  • Adjust Mouse Pointer Speed
Access the path Control Panel > Mouse Settings > Pointer Options and make sure you have selected the bar in the middle. It is recommended to have the slider somewhere in between, neither very fast nor very slow. The more centered, the better (image poorly displays this, just keep it in the middle).
  • Disable Mouse Acceleration
What exactly is mouse acceleration? Well...it´s actually pretty plain and simple: The faster you move your mouse, the more your cursor will move each inch. Meaning that if you move your mouse 1 inch very slowly, the cursor will move less than if the mouse travels the same distance, faster. Why do you want to turn that off ingame? It will be extremely contraproductive for your muscle memory. Just turn the it off in the csgo settings and your motions will always be 1:1
  • DPI (dots per inch)
DPI basicly determines how many dots your cursor moves for each inch your mouse travels. The majority of pro players use a DPI of 400 or 800, with some exceptions (for instance Elige). Technically the DPi doesn´t matter as much and you should just go with what you feel comfortable with using on your desktop, however, the aspect of muscle memory is quite important here as well, therefore I recommend not to use a high DPI.
  • Ingame Sensitivity
Ingame sensitivity...there´s no set value for everyone to use, its personal preference. Regardless, there´s a recommended value that is *roughly* the average of what pro players use (meaning that many pro players dont use this exact value). The product of your sensitivity and your DPI should be around 800, meaning: Sensitivity * DPI = 800, or to put it into other words: If you know your DPI just divide 800 by your DPI and you´ll have a rough orientation for your ingame sensitivity. Make sure to experiment with it to find the one that suits you the most.
  • Zoom Sensitivity
Zoom sensitivity? Just keep it at 1, what are you talking about Findus? Well...if you´re using a 16:9 resolution (which we´ll get into at a later point of this guide) just keep the zoom sens at 1, yes, but if you´re playing on a 4:3 resolution the value has to be different to perform a 1:1 action (in comparison to unscoped). Open your console and paste the following in: zoom_sensitivity_ratio_mouse "0.818933027098955175" got it? Great! If you want to know why exactly this is the case, feel free to do the math; Here´s a reddit post explaining this issue.
3. Viewmodel and Crosshair
  • Viewmodel:
The viewmodel should distract you as little as possible from what´s going on on the screen. Therefore you should adjust your viewmodel so it covers as little of the screen as possible (for example in the left hand corner). Now there´s only 1 question remaining: How to tell whether you need cl_righthand 1 or cl_righthand 0? To find that out, you have to find out which of your eyes is your so called "dominant eye". The trick to finding this out is pretty simple: Just jump into a custom bot game and focus on 1 object on the map. Make a circle with your index finger and your thumb and place the circle so that the object is in the middle. Now close one eye, open it again, and then close the other one. What can you see? In one of those cases the object moved out of the circle more than it did in the other one. For example (as displayed in this image): If you close your left eye and the object moves out of the circle, it means you´re left eye dominant. Obviously it also works the other way around.
So what does this mean for your viewmodel? Since the viewmodel has to be at least distracting as possible, the viewmodel has to be placed on whatever side your dominant eye is NOT since your dominant eye is supposed to focus on the game, not on the viewmodel. That being said, if youre left eye dominant open the console and type cl_righthand 1 if you´re right eye dominant however (which most people are) open your console and type in cl_righthand 0. For the rest of your viewmodel adjusting, make sure to use this awesome workshop map.

  • Crosshair
Crosshair is entirely personal preference, there´s no clear trend that pro players use, The only things that seem to be common are that the crosshair type is static in the majority of the cases, and that many people prefer using a green crosshair since green is the most visible / vibrant colour to the human eye. Both things mentioned are not necessary, crosshairs are completely personal preference, just make sure you feel comfortable on long, as awell as short range with it. Make sure to use the workshop map linked below, it is constantly being updated with the most recent pro player crosshairs, so make sure to take a look at them to see what your favourite pro player uses, and maybe find a nice preset you can use!

4. Graphic settings
Graphic settings depend on your Hardware and personal preference. Some people prefer having better graphics, whereas others prefer having the maximum amount of FPS. I personally count to the latter, just like almost any pro player. Therefore turn down some of your graphic settings and keep up what you personally need for your esthetical standards. I personally have shaders set to high so my skins look a bit more shiny, but if you want to maximize your fps make sure to turn that down as well. So what about your resolution? The resolution you chose drasticly affects your gameplay, a 16:9 resolution allows you to have a wider vision, whereas the 4:3 stretched resolution (the one I use is also stretched) streches your opponents and their heads and therefore many people find it easier to hit some nutty shots. Another resolution many pro´s use is the 4:3 resolution with black bars, which...frankly speaking...is something you really have to get used to, nonetheless many pro´s prefer it because they achieve a higher level of concentration with it. But once again it all comes down to your personal preference, just make sure to adjust your zoom sensitivity accordingly.
5. Warmup and Practice Routine
How to practice and warmup...Before searching for a matchmaking game, make sure to practice some spray patterns (and the compensation). The following map, called recoil master, makes it very accessable to everyone.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=419404847&searchtext=recoil
Furthermore it is always good to warm up and practice your aim, flicks and taps a bit by using using a map (made by the same awesome creator) called aim botz. Try to get atleast 200 kills before starting your daily matchmaking games. The more you practice and play, the better you´ll get eventually. Noone´s perfect, dont let anyone reach you. Just keep going, analyze your mistakes and concentrate on them. And then...keep practicing, over and over again.

Furthermore it is always very good to join deathmatch games...No not the standard valve deathmatches, I am talking about so called FFA Deathmatch games (FFA stands for "Free For All"). You can shoot everyone, and everyone will shoot back. Dont worry if it doesn´t work out as well the first times, it might be a bit upsetting getting killed instantly by some 14 y/o norwegian scream, however, I can confidently promise you that it´ll get A LOT better and it´s a great way to train and step up your csgo game. To join a FFA DM, just go to the community server list, type in "FFA" and refresh. In addition to that, watching pro games can be very helpful to passively learn how to be a better player while actively enjoying some great entertainment. Furthermore you will have to learn all the tips and tricks on each map, as well as useful popflashes and smokes. I cannot stress enough how important the latter is, make sure to learn that as fast as somehow possible, these kind of things will essentially win you games if used properly. For instance, here are 2 great guide on tips and tricks on commonly played active duty maps:

I don't think discerning which one of your eyes is dominant will actually do anything. cl_righthand is more preference than anything else.
