Star Wars Conquest Free-Traders And Beginners Guide
Από Hairboy523
The galaxy is embroiled in civil war and worlds are being ravaged. However that doesn't mean there isn't credits to be made! Below you can learn some of the basic trade routes and dangers around the galaxy.

"Free-traders were independent, small-time merchants who often owned just one or two starships. Many free-traders, like Platt Okeefe, were also smugglers. "

[The Goods Of The Galaxy trade Section is in the active process of expansion and more guides or sections will come upon demand.]

Bo Shuda!

Bo shuda! Aaa now would cha look at you? Fresh bantha fodder? No? Well Dolpee kikyuna then! Choy? Don't speak Huttish?

"All Hutts can speak your language—we simply choose not to."
―Doctor Juvard Illip Oggurobb

Very well then I will speak galactic basic for you since we are on Mandalore after all. A world under the brutal reign of the emperor. But eh, he's not too bad if you keep under his nose, don't cause too much trouble and lastly don't be a hero! Otherwise feel free to join with the rebellion and good luck stormin the Death Star while you're at it.

I am Thawn II, if that had not crossed your hyperspace route yet then the resemblance is pretty unmistakeable. So yes I've spent my life out of his gaze and have been free trading ever since I jumped ship from the Imperial Academy. Then I flew off to make my fortune fast and maybe you will too if ya learn a little before you find yourself broke all over again.

Now lets begin!
Imperial, Hutt, Rebel or None?
Now for starters, the galaxy may be a big place but it is very hard to not get dragged into the massive conflicts... You see there are three major parts of space that intertwine with one another... Imperial, Rebel and Hutt Space.

At the very beginning you have to first decide your race:

Take note this seem may seem purely cosmetics but height does seem to be really affected. Also if you choose to be a Jawa you will be provided with their clothing. It seems other species are not given that same consideration, however there is armor and weapons for just about all the races out there. Humans have a varity of skins to choose from as well...

This decision is the most important as it affects:

  • Who you can join right off from the start
  • Your starting renown
  • Where you start out
  • Your starting gear
  • Your small group of starting troops
  • How your ship looks and how the crew looks. (For example if you choose Empire you would have stormtroopers standing guard on your ship.)

So choose wisely out of the four. The three major factions start you out with a few hundred renown, five troops from that faction and appropriate faction gear. Below is a summary analysis of each faction to help you decide which one...if any, suit your style and ambitions.

Oh and don't forget to invest in the trade stat early on...
The Empire

"Imperius Unitada ober Totallex"
―Atrisian Basic motto, literally translating to "Empire united over all"

First, there is The Empire lead by The Emperor. Their Imperial Navy is likely the largest in the galaxy and the Rebels fight a long resilient war against them. Some would say they hold the upper hand in the constant civil war. If you wish to serve the Emperor and become a Grand Moff then pledging to him may be in your best interest.

Benefits of joining The Empire:

  • The largest army with 46 Commanders spread across the galaxy
  • Large Territories, the most out of all three.
  • A Uniform Army you can recruit from their minor planets
  • Constant war with the Rebels who have many exposed minor planets
  • Historic Characters like Darth Vader, Grand Moff tarkin and Grand Admiral Thrawn leading Imperial forces.

Negatives of joining with The Empire:
  • The sheer amount of those serving the Emperor makes it harder to stand out.
  • They are in constant war with the Rebels and victory isn't certain with the Hutts nearby.
  • Joining them makes you unable to trade with Rebel worlds, making trade much harder.
  • Likely quite hard, if not impossible to rebel against late game.(Since Commanderes do NOT defect)

Overall, they are a formidable faction with a whole lot of power behind them. Perhaps one day if a Sith serving them grew strong enough they could revolt in time. And then declare a New Sith Empire...However, that would require a very strong individual to stand any chance in a open revolution against The Empire.
The Rebel Alliance
"We, the Rebel Alliance, do therefore in the name—and by the authority—of the free beings of the Galaxy, solemnly publish and declare our intentions:

To fight and oppose you and your forces, by any and all means at our disposal;
To refuse any Imperial law contrary to the rights of free beings;
To bring about your destruction and the destruction of the Galactic Empire;
To make forever free all beings in the galaxy.
To these ends, we pledge our property, our honor, and our lives.'"

―Declaration of Rebellion

Second, there is The Rebel Alliance lead by Mon Mothma. For any who wish to fight the enormous evil Empire right off the back should join up with them. Unless they wish to fight the Empire on their own terms and trade along the way. Outside of the Imperial Fleet there are many patrols of up to 50 who fly around their regions. The odds are against you but the reward is a free galaxy.

Benefits of joining The Rebellion:

  • A large rebellious force spread across the galaxy. (36 Commanders)
  • Large Territories, second to the Empire.
  • A Uniform Army you can recruit from their minor planets.
  • Constant confict with the Empire which a privateer can profit from.
  • Historic Characters like Mon Mothma, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo ect. commanding rebel fleets.

Negatives of joining with The Rebellion:

  • The sheer amount of those in the faction makes it somewhat harder to stand out.
  • They are in constant war with the Empire and victory isn't certain with the Hutts lurking nearby.
  • Joining them makes you unable to trade with Imperial worlds, making trade much harder, if not impossible. So in that case sneaking onto worlds would a common risk.
  • Likely quite hard, if not impossible to rebel against late game.(Since lords don't defect)
  • They are spread even thinner than the Empire across the galaxy.

All in all, they are likely the hardest faction to fight or trade under. Maybe one day you could found a New Republic or The Resistance out of their ashes should they fail in their efforts.
The Hutt Cartel

"If not us, then someone else. So why not us?"
―Traditional Hutt saying

The Hutt Cartel is the third main faction that starts the game sitting on the sidelines. Though they are the smallest, they could allow one the most seclusion in the case of Rebellion. Furthermore, should they intervene against either side, the tides would likely change in the Civil War. Their roster of troops is irregular and differs from the Imperials and Rebels.

Benefits of joining Hutt Cartel:

  • They start out at peace with both The Empire and The Rebels, making free trade highly possible and profitable.
  • Due to their smaller force it is easier to stand out.
  • You can recruit Hutt Cartel Troops from their minor worlds and other outer rim species in the cantinas.
  • Their Territory is concentrated in the outer rim.
  • Possibly get bounty hunting missions personally from Jabba and others.
  • Historic Characters like Jabba The Hutt, Boba Fett and others lead the Cartel.

Negatives of joining Hutt Cartel:

  • Has the smallest army with twenty Commanders lead by Jabba The Hutt
  • They have possibly the smallest amount of territory among the three.
  • They start out at peace with both The Empire and The Rebels. For war driven characters this can be annoying.

Overall, they are the best faction for any who wish to join up with a faction and remain a Free Trader as well. If an individual is smart they could be turned into a useful tool for whatever ends are desired. Perhaps one day, you could even found a new Shadow Collective as Maul once attempted.
Independent Free Trader

"I think it's occasionally good for us to remember that being a smuggler doesn't necessarily require one to be a barbarian, too." ―Talon Karrde

If you decide that none of the factions are quite to your liking at the start or you wish to rise from nothing into legend. Or if you simply wish to reap the greatest profits for whatever purpose you wish. Then going independent is likely your best option for a time to build your fortune and recruit the large number of companions across the galaxy. ..

Benefits of being Independent:

  • You start out at peace with everyone and fight and make peace on your own terms.
  • You don't have to worry about being attacked by any faction patrols.
  • You can recruit any troops you like from any worlds and large amounts of mercs in the cantinas.
  • You can work for any and all faction members.
  • Search for the special armors said to be hidden on certain worlds maps.[Unconfirmed]
  • You can trade and travel freely...
  • You can sneak into hostile cities easier with less renown! Which is basically smuggling...

Negatives of being Independent:

  • You start with no renown
  • You will own no fiefs.
  • You will not be able to join into factional battles on either side as long as you are neutral with them all.
  • You are on your own...

It can either be a peaceful or stressful experiance depending on how you play your cards. You could trade or raid whoever you wish. Let me give some tips first before the trade tactics outlined in "Goods Of The Galaxy" .

May the force be with you!
Important Tips and Warnings For Starting Off
Here is a list of tips and warnings...

__VIDEO__

  • When it comes to the game running smoothly(pathfinding) some have recommended keeping your battle size at 100, and I personally do this myself. Remember battles in this mod are smaller in themselves. This also helps with the problem of your men clotting together.
  • Turn off the HDR autoreflect thing. For me it made the galaxy map and planets look odd. Maybe it's just me, be sure to test that out and do what works best for you.

__GAMEPLAY __
The Banking Clans

These are NOT apart of any faction. Upon each station is a:

  • A Bank which give loans and can store your money safely.
  • A multitude of merchants who you can buy from but whom all seem to have zero money.
  • A slave trader! (For any of you raider types.)
  • Can buy new ships. (I haven't tested if all of them work yet)

Outside of the station they also have mining ships in some belts and their own trade ships sometimes flying about. I myself am a purposefully peaceful Free-Trader for now, however you can play however you want. One can likely guess the results of attacking them would be as expected. Just remember, all of the stations are one sort of subfaction...however there seems to be no negative result...
It would be a intelligent move for an independent Free-Trader to take out a loan early on, to finance the first few runs.

Playing Pazaak

In this mod the classic game of Pazaak is a functioning version of Blackjack(21). As an avid player myself I can teach you the basics to be able to win up to 100 credits per game. The overall goal is to either get 21 or as close as you can to 21 without going over it. This game is a perfect way for early players to earn a little extra...now onto the basics there are three moves.

  • HIT ~ You take on a card. 11 and below are 100% safe. 12-14 are moderately dangerous. 15-16 are highly dangerous and any above are considered very likely to bust.(go over).
  • STAY ~ You do not take a card. Either because your hand is high enough to feel safe(17-21) or because you'd rather not take the chance of busting and hope the other player does that for ya.
  • DOUBLE ~This doubles the bet. It's a good idea if you feel quite confident or willing to take a risk because this means you can only "hit" ONCE afterwards. Take into account that you can also go double and then stay. Which you should do if you start with a very high hand.

Now you can play this anywhere, at anytime, with just about anyone. On your own ship you can play with your crewmates, the bartenders on worlds, and your own companions. Speaking of your own ship, there is something on it that you simply must know about...

Sneaking into cities

This is actually far more possible to do than in other mods. Take into account you will have a basic blaster and blade. Though you'd be up against at least around half a dozen men if you are caught. The reward of course is being able to buy and sell ect inside the hostile city. Plus nothing feels more like smuggling then shooting down authorities trying to arrest you.

~~ Bacta Tanks ~~

In the medical bay of your ship is a chamber in which you can heal from your wounds in. All you must do is stand inside of it and wait until your health is full.

~~ASK FOUR TIMES~~
When asking for quests be sure to ask three or four times in a row. Then go out and ask them again. Sometimes on the third or 4th try you get something good. So in short a commander may say they have nothing to give you but if you badger them enough they could give you something.

~ Pirates and Marauders ~

When it comes to trading and all around travel. These wandering marauder bands are always hard to catch and harder to get away from.

  • Pirates, deserters, Tuskens and all sorts of raiders can threaten you even as an Independent.
  • Their troops are not usually weak and expect men to go down if you choose to engage them.
  • Be warned: they fly fast on the map and show no mercy.

~~Cantina Brawls~~
If you get into a blaster fight and come out on top. Expect to have relations with that faction to go down a few points. However, you can gain a bit of experiance and money from this or just act out your violent urges if it so pleases you. Then afterwards you could even approach a commander before you leave the planet and give a quick bribe to smooth ruffled feathers.

In Imperial and Rebel Space this seems to drop relations by three. However last time someone started a fight with me in Hutt space and I won, my relation increased by one. Odd.

Otherwise if a faction is hostile toward you patrols may come after you in groups of around 50.

~~Search Every Spaceport~~

There are a lot of companions, some of which are free. Always be sure to drop by any world to look for them. I've found 16 so far!

~~ON SHIPS~~

From a reader "I, personally, have tested the whole ship-buying mechanic. So far, it works, and upgrades do make your ship perform much, MUCH better, especially for those who wish to lead grand armies." ~ continued in the next guide.

~~Perhaps set up a few different groups of men for the line up~~

You can select what groups you want to be each. This can help divide your troops since your men will not be able to fit in a single line even at 100 size. So what I did is make one group short range with pistols and another being long range. It seems the second group goes in front and the first group behind according to my tests. Experment for yourself...I made one short range and another long range. Look at my second guide for notes on doing this.

Now onto trade!
Goods Of The Galaxy
Overall, the basic premise of free market trade is you buy low and sell high. Logic dicates that the rich worlds have the most stuff and therefore are the best to buy from.. While the poor impoverished worlds sell things for high pirces worlds similar to how third world countries sell to first world countries on a intergalactic level. Take into account that I did all this with a trade skill of 4...

So you buy from rich worlds and sell to poor major ones. Supply and Demand...However sometimes one can get very cheap things from average worlds as well. The tides of war changes prices and wealth therefore these notes are simply to help you get into the hang of the routes to be able to chart your own as things slowly change with scarcity. The key is to know a good price when you see one. Sometimes a better price can be found on a moon of a major planet than the planet itself.

Therefore is best to simply keep yours eyes open as you travel...

~~Common Trade Goods~~

These goods can be bought in bulk from major planets and sold across the galaxy at other major worlds for greatest profit. Usually if not always across faction lines. Therefore the profits for these either drop greatly or disappear entirely if you join the Rebels or the Empire.

~~~
Hydrospanners ~ One the most profitable goods to buy in bulk.(Requires long trips)
Buy for: 45-120
(Rare note: I found a stash of them on small Bogden as well. 12 of them for 45 up.)
Best Regular Buy Price: 50-100 from various major places.(Such as Taris)
Best Sell Price
: 570-200 (more toward the lower end is most common)
Naboo(282)
]Mannan(328)
Bespin! (516 is how high I got most recently, and then 570 on a regular basis)
Ewok Furs ~ Seem to be mainly in Rebel held areas. Possibly can even be sold between Rebel Worlds.
Buy Cheap: Dac(70) and buy up to 150 = Over 200 to 100 profit per item.
Buy moderate or cheap on: Raxus Prime (Hutt)
Sell at:
Geonosis(253)
Ryloth(249
Dantooine(238)
Bespin
Yavin 4
Hoth(Reportedly high profits there)
Durasteel ~ Commonly sold cheap at Hoth and even its moon! Or sometimes Raxus Prime. (In my current playthrough Raxus Prime is a great place to buy both)
Can be sold for a moderate profit after long trips across the galaxy such as into Hutt Space. Buy below 100 and sell above 200. Sometimes they can be sold for extremely high prices many hundreds higher.
Genosian Pottery
~ Quick slim profit, can be gotten on Kamino and sold at Gamorr for instance. So buy 10-30 then double your money. However in rare cases they can fetch a staggering 110! This happened when I sold them on the Rebel world DAC once.
Kamino ~ 13-27
Gamorr ~ 60-40
~~Nerf Wool~~
Got some cheap(14 lowest) on Hypori. Seems uncommon though to buy.
~~RARE Goods~~
Example: These are all cheap goods on a minor world I came across.
These goods are found moreso outside of cities and can be very helpful when one is a Rebel Smuggler or Free-Trader. However they are usually not sold in bulk amounts.
~~~

Mandalorian Wine ~ Possibly one of the best Rebel smuggler buys on minor worlds. However sometimes it can be gotten in bulk from major worlds. Know cheap wine when you see it!

Buy for as low as 16 from Yag'Dhu and Fondor!

Sell - Mannan, Dantooine ect. for 137! Or Bothawui.

Another Rebel Route ~ Bespin to Ryloth

(Moderate Profit) Bassel Sea Salt ~ A rather rare good to find but quite profitable.

Regular Buy Price: 142-170
Rare low price from Ror and Ryloth Mooni: 42

Ryloth (Hutt)

Sell Price: As high as a few hundred

Manaan (225)
Felucia (Imperial)

The Minor world of Rori is in Outer Rim Hutt Space, it can sometimes be bought for as low as 42! Which equals big profits for you my friend.

Christophsis Cheese (Slim profits/ediable)

Buy as low as 18 at Rakata Prime, sell for 45 at nearby Mannan. Or 75 at Dantooine

Cheap Wheat and Flour ~ Both have simliar prices. (Take into account both are very poor on my playthrough, this may not be the case on yours)

Lowest Buy Price 7-14 for ten of them. From the minor rebel worlds of Sernpidal and Dubrillion.

Sell low - For 32 at nearby Dantooine for minor profits or look elsewhere.
Sell high - Flour(72) and Wheat(63) at Mannan for example.

~ Oil ~

Low Price 62-139 if you buy 15 that is. I recently picked up that amount from the small world Khomm. I'm quite sure I will fetch quite a profit.

Minor Exploit - When you buy from Trade Ship merchants, selling to them to get your money back can be quite easy since they seem to charge sometimes high flat rates. Though beware, they don't keep their money long before they are at zero again, for example I once paid 12k for a battledroid suit and then sold Ewok furs for 253 each and the price didn't go down.

That is all for now. Might add more details in the future.
Thank you for reading
Additional content may be added or corrected upon request. I've considered doing a Youtube Let's Plays of my various campaigns as well if there is ever demand for that. Please be sure to favorite, share, rate etc. Below are a few favorite moments of mine:

The moment after I shot him repeatly in the chest from close range as he drew his vibroblade.

Had two different groups lined up and successfully gunned down the whole charge.

Yeah it requires a lot of knowledge like my other favorite old mods. However I recommend getting GOG version of the original Mount and Blade to play the newest version of the Return Of The Sith mod smoothly. https://www.moddb.com/downloads/return-of-the-sith-release-2

I find it worth playing, as long as you do so on the correct settings as I've recommended. The main key is to have low battle size unless you are on a wide open world like the Sand planets. Cities however its more so like squads fighting squads. Kinda like Empire At War. There's a ton of little cool features though and lots of items and weapons and the map is awesome.
