"Text: Edge Detection Circuit
This circuit produces a brief pulse when the input changes state.

See chart for which Logic Gate to use.
[The NAND or NOR inverter] must be physically farther from the source of the input.

To detect this kind of edge, use this in the first logic gate:
rising edge, AND
falling edge, NOR
any edge, XNOR
anything but a rising edge, NAND
anything but a falling edge, OR
anything but an edge, XOR

"Rising" can also be called "leading" or "positive."
"Falling" can also be called "trailing" or "negative."
Edge detectors are a kind of monostable circuit."
