Top Ten Worst Spy Mistakes
By The Impractical Engineer
As a spy main (*a-hem*), I have found many, many despicable mistakes throughout the wonders of 2Fort (no pun intended). This rather informative guide will run you through all the mistakes. The mistakes are in no particular order, so #8 may be more common than #2. I hope you enjoy this guide fellow sphees.

EDIT: Apparently, some how, this guide has resurfaced from the grave; as such, I warn that some statements are outdated or obsolete.

#10 The Revolver Spy
The tenth mistake goes to those spys who haven't figured out they have a disguise kit, cloak or even their knife. They will run around shooting you, 99.99917% of the time equipping the Ambassador, usually they will fail. Here's the description

Scientific Name: Spyrevocranoplis

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Any Revolver, 99.99917%, the Ambassador.

Status: Sparse

As much as they are annoying, and they will also 86.68% taunt after every kill, they are easily countable, switch to pyro, or even, be a spy yourself, and whilst they are plopping lousy shots at your Gibus-Wearing-Sniper on 2Fort, back-stab them. And taunt.

There is no way I could survive this
#9 The Over-Cloaker
The ninth mistake goes to those spies, who have figured out they have something other than their revolver, which, is the cloak button. These spies will always cloak, no matter where they are, for feeling if they don't, it will be punishable by death. Here's the description:

Scientific Name: Ovcloktermanius Prestatitus

Hostile/Non-Hostile: Non-Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Usaully the Cloak & Dagger, but can be stock

Status: Common

Although they will eventually decloak, they seem to do it at the wrong time. Be aware, depending on your situation, it is more than likely there is a enemy behind you when you are waiting to backstab your victim. Don't overcloak, it's a bad habit. Spy is an aggressive class (in most situations), this habit promotes a passive and boring gameplay.

You're gonna run out eventually
#8 The Over-Stabber
So, what could be possibly wrong about getting those fulfilling chainstabs? Well, in many situations, over-stabbing is basically a trip to spawn; take payload for example, your on red, there's 6 players on the cart, and there is three coming from spawn, your in the middle. If you stab all of them on the cart, 99.729% of the time, those players coming from spawn will see you. Here's the description of this creature:

Scientific Name: Stabostabkillstreakasitis

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Any knife, Your Eternal Reward is probably best for doing so

Status: Sparse

Don't over-stab, only do what you can get away with. If you can get away with that large chainstab, do it. It's not worth waiting for the tedious timer to respawn; that's X amount of seconds your letting the enemy do the objective, that's X amount of seconds your doing nothing and that's X amount of seconds you could be getting kills!

You could probably get more kills by picking off enemies one by one, rather than go full out and die doing so. Your team will thank you for not doing a Kamikaze attack, and it will be beneficial for your team, whether they know it, or not.

One by one is the way to go
#7 Wrong Positioning
This one is probably one of the most common on this list, if not, the most. Wrong positioning is when a spy (or spies) stand in the wrong postion, move the wrong way or look out of the ordinary. Let's look at an engineer disguise, let's say your on BLU, and your on 2Fort. Your moving towards BLU Spawn, if a enemy sees you, they'll think, what is that engineer doing? Why isn't he at our intelligence, building a sentry? Here's the description:

Scientific Name: Crongoklitimopourum

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Any knife, watch or revolver

Status: Very Common

This one is tightly linked with the Wrong Disguise mistake, which is another very common one. Wrong positioning can be done almost instinctively, making it hard to notice your doing it. One counter, is when your disguised, and you want to move to an enemy spawn, and there's enemy coming from it, don't walk right towards them, that looks suspicious. Instead, walk backwards, as if you retreating from battle. Remember, your disguise has different health than a spy, so watch out.

Ticket to spawn
#6 Wrong Choosing of Victim
Is it more important to stab the heavy, or the medic? Well, that's for you do decide. The correct answer? The medic; medics can deploy Uber-charges, which can devastate a fleet of Engi-Turtles. You can instantly kill him, unlike other classes:

Scientific Name: Vicchobosidoius

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Any knife

Status: Sparse

This is one of the few exceptions where it is better to die. Think: When I died killing that medic, that's one less Uber-charge, which means the endangered Engi-Turtles can survive a bit longer! Killing the heavy, means the medic is still alive, ready to deploy an Uber on another player.

As a medic, you're a high value target

#5 The Egotistic Spy
The fifth mistake goes to those spies, who think they master trickstabs, they are undetectable, and invincible from any enemy fire. Your not. Take MrPaladin for example, he has hundreds and hundreds of hours on spy, and he is probably one of the best spy mains out there, yet, he still dies. He doesn't think, oh here comes a noob, I'll switch to my knife and try to facestab him to death. Never underestimate someone:

Scientific Name: Bascilaegotomoego

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Very Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Any

Status: Common

Rather than rage-quit from your mistakes, learn from it. Underestimation is lazy and ignorant. Nevertheless, don't underestimate yourself, remember, do what you can get away with, avoid what you can't. Dieing isn't worth it.

"You don't have to stop and throw stones at every dog that barks" -Winston Churchill

#4 Sap-Before-Stab Spy
The fourth mistake goes to those spies who sap an engineers buildings first rather than kill the engineer first, then sap. It is more advantageous to kill then sap. Why? Well I'll explain after I give the description of this mistake:

Scientific Name: Sapstabortron

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Sapper or Red-Tape Recorder and any knife

Status: Sparse

The reason this is bad is because think about it; if I sap first, the engineer will clearly notice that his building are being sapped, and their health is being drained. He will also know there is a spy, so 80% of the time, when he goes to his buildings, he will see you, and as the old saying goes, "kill the spy, then protect your buildings" and off to spawn you go.

Instead, kill first, therefore the engineer is dead, and by the time he gets out of spawn, his buildings will be dead/near dead, and you'll be long gone. Even if he gets out of spawn in time, his building will die in the few seconds remaining.

Stab, then sap
#3 Wrong Loadout
Now, I understand if you prefer certain knifes or stuff, but you have to have some leniency; certain spy knifes are for certain situations. For example, say there's many pyros on the enemy team, equip the Spy-Cicle or Dead-Ringer. Many explosive classes (demoman or soldier), equip the Connivers Kunai. Here's the description:

Scientific Name: Lodpaskenios

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Depends

Weapon/s of choice: Any spy weapon

Status: Common

A wrong loadout might be when there's too many pyros, but you equip a Cloak & Dagger. As you may be standing around a lot with it, random pyros may check corners or areas, lighting you, before killing you shortly after.

The Spy-Cicle let me survive a little longer
#2 Poor Escapes
You've been spotted, a random scout is chasing you with his bat, what should, you do? Don't be predictable of course! This is the reason many spies are killed, they are too predictable. But, this can be countered easily:

Scientific Name: Escayudoclo

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Non-Hostile (when escaping)

Weapon/s of choice: Any spy weapon

Status: Sparse

This is countered by moving one way, cloak whilst moving in that direction, and while cloaked, move the other, therefore, enemies will think you went right/left instead of left/right. This is useful to know when doing Matador Stabs and Corner Stabs.

"Catch ya in five minutes" -sniper upon dominating someone
#1 Wrong Disguise
Prepare your anus, this is a big one. There's so many reasons/examples of wrong disguise, it may be hard to condense this to one section, here we go. Missed an example? Tell me in the comments. Here's the description:

Scientific Name: Digfoafaitutwo

Hostile/Non-Hostile?: Hostile

Weapon/s of choice: Disguise Kit

Status: Common

1) The class/player your disguised as is dead, therefore smart players will pick up on that and kill you without hesitance.

2) The class your disguised as, is not in the game. Example, you disguise as a scout but there are no scouts on the enemy team.

3) The class/player your disguised as sees you, killing you. This can also happen if they are in front of you, your in the middle, and there's a enemy behind you, the enemy will likely check you first, then move onwards.

4) You're taking out a large sentry nest, with 3 or more engineers, and your disguised as scout. No big surprise who the spy will be. Tip: Disguise as an engineer so you'll be harder to track.

5) You're on the cart as RED, disguised as a medic, but there's also a heavy there too. At the bottom where you see the carts position to the checkpoints, it'll say there is one person on the cart, not two. See you in spawn, bud.

6) You're disguised as any class, your with enemy players, who are firing at your team, one will notice your suspiciously not firing, they will then kill you so forth.

7) You're disguised as medic, and there's an injured enemy who calls for "MEDIC", yet your not healing him. You'll be dead soon mate.

8) You're disguised as any class/player and you bump into a enemy. Your asking for a trip to spawn.

9) You're disguised as sniper, for example, an enemy pyro sees you, then he sees that your in the line of enemy (friendly) fire, he wonders why your not scoped in. He'll check you, next thing you know, your dead.

That's all I could think of, there's probably more, but you guys probably want this list to be over, so it is, I mean, read the conclusion if you want to. But yeah. Umm. Okay...

Notice how the medic is dead, yet I'm disguised as one

Conclusion
We're at the end. Any mistakes I missed? Tell me in the comments. Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on these mistakes, again, tell me below. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THIS. Also, some people ask me question over what I'm using in the screenshots, so I'll put as much as information as I can here, rather than spam the comments:

1} What revolver were you using?: I was using the L'Etranger

2} What spy-watch were you using?: I was using the Qüackenbirdt

3} What knifes did you use?: I used the Spy-Cicle and a reskin knife

4} Are you a spy main?: Yes and no

I know this was longer than usual, but anyway, thank
you so much for reading this entire list (if you did),
I'm in the process of making another guide,
goodbye!
