PU stands for power units, it is based on the ingame sphere surrounding the tank which is used to set the power and angle of shots, it can be used in a similar way to a ruler. (dont tell sarah)

How to measure PU

The measurement "PU" stands for power units and is a simple yet effective method of finding the size of an explosion.

PU is measured as the diameter of a crater, not the radius and can be accurately measured when the tank is sat pressed up against the crater just before going into the edge of a crater.

In order to measure this value correctly, the terrain must be deep enough to absorb the full explosion and be flat. Lowlands, plateau and flatlands all work very well.

* PU can be converted to "blast radius" by dividing by 2
* "blast radius" will also convert to PU by multiply by 2

This measurement here is incorrect because it is a diameter, not radius. for values above 100, measure the radius then double it. (meganuke is 150PU)


The classic grenade example, it is 40PU across and since this is less than 100 it is possible to measure the whole crater

History of PU

The first reference of PU was in ss1, the measurement was sparked by a small group of players taking note of the fact some explosions seemed identical in size, after much debate, one player decided they should blow up areas on the lowlands map, this resulted in the discovery that the power meter can be used to measure the sizes of craters accuretly, with the first measurement being 41PU (this was later discovered to be 40), being the grenade


Knowledge of PU is particularly useful for the shank and its upgrades with sword being 63PU long or other weapons like sonic pulse which have single shot ranges.
