Introduction
A bit about myself.
Coming up to 2 years now i've been playing, 1000 hours have been spent playing solo on a 3x gather server and the remaining amount being played with a group of 25 members still on a 3x gather server, being the primary builder for the group and producing base after base evey week i've found ways to make building easy and effictive, or in other words how to get the most out of every seaction of a base and what requierments are needed in order to have a base defend itself as i like to call it.

Something something disclaimer
About the 3x gather, 25 man zerg and roof camping.
As its a 3x gather server we can online raid not to get loot, but to have fun which is one of our biggest goals to just simply have fun as a group, and with others on the server. As for roof camping we discourage that behaivour from our members, as being a 25 man zerg angers many players as it is, so we are inclined to kick members that have a habbit of roof camping.

On battlements
Somethings to look out for when building battlements is that it does not weaken your base or make it more vulnerable unless your trying to bait players, as some can be taken advantage of by raiders such as ladder hatches and doors with no code locks on them, what you should be aiming for is having many options for defending your base without it being compromising, in doing so you gain a higher advantage over online raiders and not helping offline raiders.

Key points to follow:
  • Cover that does not get you killed
Avoid using cover that gets you killed, as cover that does not help you live longer is not helping you in anyway, the goal here when defending is to stay alive.

  • A mixture of angles that provide a complete 360 view around the base
You must be able to see the ground around the base without getting shoot from a raid base. having this type of line of sight deals with the rocket bombardment at the source, stoping them allows you more time to deal with other suits of amour waiting to be shoot. you will also need lines of sight to deal with long distance but more for anything along the horizion.

  • Quick to move around
Moving to a different line of sight makes it harder for the raiders to get a beat on you, and snipers at the raid base will have a much harder time hitting you. doing so can turn things in you favour even when out numbered.

  • Nearby beds
Dieing sucks and should be best avoided (ofc) when on your own or just bad at pvp, having nearby beds reduces the time between shooting some fools and not.

  • Multiple floors
When against raiders of any number it can be very useful having a sniper tower of some kind, not just for killing others, but for providing ESP i mean information to your fellow hackers i mean role players.

  • Don't help the raider, he wants the loot from your big booty boxs
I dont care if a youtuber is using a roof or ladder hatch as a battlement it will only help the raider and does not provide you with much in return, feel free to break this guide line when you have mastered building and play around with them.

Use these key points to develop your own and future battlements as of when rust recieves an update, If you follow even some of these you will have improved just how much you can do to defend your base even when outnumbered.
Low wall barricade

The above battlement is very simple to make and has a low amount of angles but does cover your body while leaving your head exposed with the option to duck to provide full cover, best used lower to the ground, 3-4 floors are best as anything lower can make the base weaker anything higher and you wont be able to shoot targets that are close to the base.

Simpy place a low wall down and place a concreate barricade on top, with ever a small box or a big booty box against it.
Door barricade

The door barricade serves the same kind of purpose as the low wall barricade but with the added doors to lock down the base, whiles providing more angles to shoot down onto nearby players. Ducking behind the barricade should give you cover from most lines of sight but not all so you may have to ever step back behind the box and duck or just close the doors.

Place a double door frame then a concrete barricade inbetween the two sides of the frame the order matters as doing it in a different order will stop you from having an easy time placing it, once you have done that smack a double door on it and place a big booty box against it and your done, i would also like to point out that if you use an amoured door you can have the doors closed and hatches open (great cover).
The door on door

This is something I'm unsure of but does have some interesting advantages, One of which keeping the door open stops other players from using it as an entrance to some part of the base, another is that it provides a very wide viewing angle horizontally and vertically, sadly however not much cover so could be best used rarely and high up the base making it more worth while.
Multi level multi angle

I find myself building this all the time on very large base designs as it provides lots of cover and angles but more importantly it has the typs of angles i need in order to protect against an online raid or passers by. Due to its size it will most likly be best for large bases and not so much small ones you may be able to use it on medium sized bases.
Double door box barricade

This can be alittle hard to add to most designs but if you can find a way to add it and still be able to move around quite easly then youll gain a very compact battlement that has good cover and great angles. In my experience i've mostly used it on bridges and high up birds nest.
The Pill Box

Place a square 3x3 with straight stairs leading up from it with a placeholder, (square or triangle to be removed later) replace the steps with a square foundation and loop more around the 3x3 at the same level as the newly raised foundation height.

Place windows along the outer edges of the 3x3 before upgrading, as when the raised foundations are upgraded it may not let you place the windows, now to choose which metal embrasures to use the horzontial or the veritcal.

To finish off roof it off, add some kind of enterence in this case a ladder hatch but you can also remove one of the raised foundtaions and windows, and place a doorway instead. the steps added to the outside are there mostly because it looks good, but does help to get up into the pill box.

Once you identify a base with roofcampers, you stay away from it till you are ready to raid it. You get pissed with roof campers, but the reality is the only goal of this game is to survive. Door campers are 10x the cancer of roof campers. I get called a roof camper constantly for peeking my doors before I go out of them, and killing asshats in bushes, behind rocks, waiting for me to exit my base. I get their shit, they get to respawn, and whine in chat. Everyone who matters is happy.

I don't get why everyone has a problem with this quide. Roof campers might be annoying but it is very effective.

If it makes you feel better we do not roof camp and anyone that does we kick quite quickly, as nobody likes roof campers, we take into account that we are a large group of players that only nice solo players seem to like and get along with, anyone else has a massive problem with.
