GTA IV FIX - How to downgrade and make your mods work again
By MajinHaku
Alright, so, as many of you may have experienced, the new update killed the scripthook for GTA IV, and for many, the game will not launch, well, I've got a workaround for that, and it's very simple. Please bear with me, as this is my first guide and I've got no experience in text formatting.

1. Downgrading
The first thing you'll want to do, is download the official title update from the Rockstar website, remember, 1.0.7.0 is for the vanilla game, 1.1.2.0 is for EFLC.
You can download them here [support.rockstargames.com]
And here [support.rockstargames.com]

After downloading, run the UpdateTitle.exe in the folder, and let it do its thing.
You can check if the update installed correctly, if you go to GTAIV.exe, go to properties, then details, and the version reads 1.0.7.0 in the vanilla(as I did)
2. Removing Games For Windows Live
The other common issue that comes across is that annoying thing that no one asked for, GFWL, the simple workaround is downloading the XLiveLess(I don't know why Steam censors this) patch here [gtaforums.com]

If you wish to play without mods at this point of the guide, select to play offline. I have NOT tested the result of clicking the regular play button, better safe than sorry.
3. Installing Mods
Now that we've downgraded and removed GFWL, The only thing left to do is mod it with scripthook, this is a pretty open topic, but you can essentially now mod it as you were able to before the update, for reference, I will drop down this video, credits to davidbeckham556, whose video first came up when I looked this up.
FINAL NOTES
I followed all these instructions using ONLY the vanilla game, I do not own the Episodes From Liberty City DLCs, therefore, I do NOT know what the outcome will be if you attempt this with EFLC.

ALSO, THIS DELETES YOUR GAMESAVE, PLEASE KEEP A BACKUP OF YOUR SAVE FILE OR YOU WILL HAVE TO RESTART YOUR GAME IF YOU DO NOT CREATE A BACKUP, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

Update For EFLC downgrades 2021: Unfortunately there is a 3rd step that involves a setup.exe file which asks for a retail key code. sorry EFLC's :/

Save files work after downgrading. Tested by me and works.

will I be able to use my backed up save files after downgrade ?
or it wouldn't be compatible ?

Yes, it does.
Make sure you back it up by copying and pasting your save into another location.

It removes your save fiel right?

My bad, it does save. I just assumed it wouldn't because it says you have to sign to windows live or something in to be able to save

You shouldn't be able to connect online, therefore no social club. The game saves shouldn't be an issue, however. I have been saving my progress normally that way.

I got past step two, but now it tells me that I can't connect to social club, meaning that I'll have to make a new save game every time I launch the game?
