Rokem's 2D Figurine for RPGs, DND, and Pathfinder

Description
A custom 2D figurine optimized for 1x1 grids in Tabletop Simulator!

Are you tired of the bulky metal base used for the custom figurine model? Do you hate how shiny the base looks or how hard it is to knock over pieces due to its heft? Does it bother you how tiny your image looks when you shrink down the base to fit into a 1x1 grid space?

Well I don't know about you, but after fruitlessly combing through the workshop for an alternative solution, I set out and learned how to model the damn thing myself instead. Now you too can enjoy the fruits of my labor! The main benefit, besides the better-sized figurines for 1x1 grids, is you can set custom textures for the top, bottom, and side of the base. You can even opt to use no textures for the base at all if you simply want an invisible base.

Everything you need to make your own models is included here, so you technically don't need to subcribe, however I'd appreciate it if you drop a comment below. Enjoy!

Oh and feel free to use these in your own mods, just drop me a shout out if you do :D

CHANGELOG
3/7/2020 - Created new 2x1 wide-base figurine which can be used for landscape style images.
2/20/2020 - Tinting now only applies to figurine base. Minimized seam issues.
8/20/2018 - Updated the instructions within the mod to make them clearer to understand.
3/4/2018 - Updated the description with even better instructions.
4/2/2017 - New Two-Sided Version! It spawns in backwards, don't ask why.
3/31/2017 - Updated model to use new obj file link so it no longer spawns the piece in broken.
3/29/2017 - Now updated with better instructions, which are available below and in the mod itself.

INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1: Use one of the templates below to create your image. I recommend using GIMP or Photoshop to edit the template. When you are done, save the image as a PNG to preserve transparency. There are lots of tutorials online and on youtube if you are unfamiliar with how to use these programs.

MIRRORED TEMPLATE:

TWO-SIDED TEMPLATE:

WIDE-BASE TEMPLATE:

STEP 2: Once you have created your image, upload it to the internet. I recommend using the in-game upload feature.
STEP 3: Use method A or B to create the model in Tabletop Simulator.

METHOD A: CLONING AN EXISTING MODEL
STEP 1: Save the default models to your chest.
STEP 2: Whenever you want to create a new model, spawn it from your chest, right click on the model, and click "Custom".
STEP 3: Change the Diffuse Image link with a link to your newly minted image file instead.
STEP 4: Import your new model and bask in your new creation!
STEP 5: (OPTIONAL) Edit the name and description of your newly created model.
STEP 6: Don't forget to give this mod a thumbs up if you found this useful! :D

METHOD B: CREATING A NEW MODEL FROM SCRATCH
STEP 1: to create a new custom model in Tabletop Simulator, go to Objects > Components > Custom > Model.
STEP 2: For the MODEL/MESH and COLLIDER parameters, use the link below which matches the figurine type you want to create.

MIRRORED TEMPLATE:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Rokem/TTS_Custom_2D_Figurine/master/FigurineModel.obj
TWO-SIDED TEMPLATE:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Rokem/TTS_Custom_2D_Figurine/master/TwoSidedModel.obj
WIDE-BASE TEMPLATE:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Rokem/TTS_Custom_2D_Figurine/master/WideBaseModel.obj

STEP 3: For DIFFUSE IMAGE, add the link to your newly minted and uploaded image file.
STEP 4: Leave NORMAL/BUMP blank.
STEP 5: Leave Non-Convex unchecked.
STEP 6: Set the type to "Figurine".
STEP 7: Under the Material tab, choose "Cardboard".
STEP 8: Import your new model and bask in your new creation!
STEP 9: Don't forget to give a thumbs up if you found this useful! :D

Hey folks, I know I am very late to the party on this, but I wanted to ask:

Is there any way to allow tinting of the whole model and not just the base? I was using it to make miniatures for playing the Paranoia RPG >.>

Hey this add on is great! I wanted to get rid of those reflective metal bases and be able to color my bases and this mod works great for that.

The only thing its misting from the standard custom figurine, is being able to change the image scale vs base scale. This would make resizing large assets and keep scale a lot easier! Right now I'm on the fence between using your mod or using the standard version. Might just end up using both.

Something I figured out when making a 2d model for my EC mod, If you don't want the base set the Z scale to 0.01 obviously sense the art is 2d this doesn't effect it but it gets rid of the wide area around the model.

@Pizzamovies I meant to respond to you months ago. I actually made a smaller collider for you based on your feedback. Unfortunately, I locked myself out of my GitHub account and haven't been able to upload it. Good news is I think I finally found a way to get access again.

This is a fantastic tool, i wish there was a way to make the collider mesh smaller then the base, i dont mind the mess being a generic box, but when it overlaps outside the base it makes the placement of figurines frustrating, unless im missing something.

Rokem! I just tried your 2-sided model and It's great, thanks for these templates. I was hoping to use one of those customizable cards scripts to print dynamic text on the back of my figurines, but I guess I will make it work with the hover method for now. Thanks so much for sharing :)

No one that I know of, but I'm also the only person in my friend group that's using it as far as I know, I'll add you so I can send them over

It's possible. Anyone else having issues with this? Also can you send me some of the image templates your using to see if I can replicate it on my end?

I only have textures set up for the Mirrored Model so i can only speak for that one in particular, but this was the first one I had made with the mod and it was fine. When I was setting up the second one that's when the transparency started. I've tried changing the original photo used, resetting the saved pieces from scratch, cloning and changing the minor details of the clones in case duplicate values between them were somehow conflicting, re-saving the ones that were no longer affected, restarting the game,re-installing and trying the same steps again, you name it.

I can only assume it has something to do with the actual base itself seeing as it's the only part being affected by this. Maybe it has something to do with some recent update or change to the games code?
Rokem  [author] Jun 3, 2021 @ 8:23pm
I'm stumped as to what could be causing that. Is it happening to all your pieces or just specific ones?
