Introduction to the M1 Garand.
  • "The standard weapon of the US Army. A hard-hitting effective semi-automatic rifle, that uses an 8 round ‘en-bloc’ clip." - Heroes And Generals official description of the M1 Garand.

The M1 Garand was made in the 30's by John Garand. It is a gas-operated rotating bolt that feeds on .30 caliber rounds. This weapon replaced the American's standard infantry rifle, the Springfield M1903. This weapon proved to be a flexible, easy to use and highly effective weapon. This rifle was "the greatest battle implement ever devised", in the words of General George S. Patton. This rifle was so effective and incredibly well-made, it was used in World War II, all the way to the early stages of the Vietnam War, being replaced with the M14, which even it's design is based off the M1 Garand. Now that's a great rifle!

But enough of the history about this incredible killing tool, let's talk Heroes & Generals M1 Garand.
It has a damage base of ~49hp. It's most effective at mid-range, around 50 meters. It is a two-hit-kill from very close range.
You can modify the M1 Garand to be a two-hit-kill from a medium range to long ranges.
It is the most powerful "vanilla weapon", but has the least amount of ammunition.

The Big Question: Is it BAD?!
However, despite the fact the Garand is the more hard-hitting than the SVT (??) and Gewher, and has the fastest reload speed, it's arguably the worst rifle in Heroes And Generals.
Well, is it?

We all know that the US Branch is the most welcoming branch for newbies, making the US Branch known to have the "worst players", so obviously, a big portion of the US Branch has no idea how to operate the M1 Garand effectivley.
However, the US is also known to have the "worst weapons", too. So obviously, if EVERYBODY says that, is it true?
Take this for example. I pour out myself a glass of orange juice, and I drink it in front of a large group of colourblind people, not telling them what I'm drinking, and they all think it's water they're seeing. Therefore, they all start saying to everybody that I drank water. But we all know I drank orange juice, yet there's word going around that I actually drank orange juice. Do you know what that is called? Rumours.
And that is exactly what has happened to the United States in Heroes and Generals. Since a large portion of players in the US are new to the game, they're learning how to use a rifle correctly. And since they couldn't use the M1 Garand correctly, it's been downgraded by rumours.

I see people rush to an objective with a fully modded M1 Garand in their hands, with a Death or Glory reskin on their rifle, and getting killed before he even has the chance to land a shot.
"Germany bias", or "Nerf Germany" is all what's seen in chat by those people who have just charged into an objective. With a rifle in their hands.
A rifle.

Do you know what a rifle is, people?
A rifle is a weapon with a long barrel.
A long barrel means it's a long gun.
A long gun means it fires bullets at a long distance.
A long distance rifle obviously isn't going to be good at close range if it's made for long ranges.
Ding ding ding!
There's your answer!! The M1 Garand is classified as a rifle, meaning that it's made for firing medium to long ranges.
That's why the M14 was replaced with the M16 in the Vietnam War, because the Vietcong used Gurrilea Warfare, and they couldn't have a rifle that was made just for long ranges!

The M1 Garand in Heroes and Generals is not a bad weapon. A lot of people just don't know how to use the damn thing.
Conclusion (and how to use the M1 Garand).
So, there you go. Quit your bawling about how "bad" the M1 Garand is. It's a balanced weapon, unlike almost every other weapon in Heroes and Generals *cough cough wheeze*

Here's a video for you people to help you get started on the M1 Garand.
Happy hunting.
