Alien Isolation guide Nightmare difficulty
By Lettuce Lizard
Hi, just an introduction i LOVE this game is my favoite in the horror genre, outlast is the 2nd. I finished the game many times and decided to make a guide for Nightmare difficulty, hope anyone who reads it will find it helpfull.
Lets go right in :P

-No map, no life bar, no lifebar on flashlight, motion tracker faulty, scarce materials.

You don't really need a map the motion tracker a bit faulty still points the direction you need to go.
Life bar is irrelevant because on hard you die in 2-3 hits so on nightmare is even more pointless.
The crafting materials are severly scarce.. at least early on, don't dispair you can hold only 3 items of each so you are not exaclty throwing noisemakers or other crafted items left and right anyway.
Oh and no battery life for the flashlight.
Best way to avoid the alien without using a truck load of noisemakers or other usefull items is crouching around tables... >.>

-The Alien, and avoiding the alien..

The alien on nightmare spends most of his time stomping around patroling your close vicinity he's very aggresive, some times he goes in a vent and drops again two seconds later "im not exaggerating".
Crouching around the tables or any furniture will help a lot, he won't see you unelss he looks directly at you, then you know you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥, or in other words alien food. :D
Save as much as you can, some times go out of your way to an area where you know there is a phone to save, it helps.
Use the rewire box on the walls when ever you see them to create fog patches or distract your enemies, i bet you overlooked them every time.
Sometimes he will patrol an area where there is only one route you can use,and you will have no choise use flame thrower, or other distractions.

-Humans ,Andoids and facehuggers

They are also smarter so...
Be patient !!! watch out where they patrol to avoid them.
You can avoid most of the humans and androids, don't try to kill everything you come across because you will never have enough resources to do that.
Facehuggers can be killed with the maintenace jack, you just need to time it right, if you kill them with a gun or the flame thrower the alien will come and check who is killing his little brothers xD.
Heal more than you would on hard, only if you don't want to reload saves too much.

Last but not least some missinformation i read on the internet regarding nightmare difficulty.

-"The alien will not hiss when he sees you" this is not true he will still hiss at you when he detects you wich you have seconds to break contact.
"Flame thrower fuel goes down much faster" again this is false though you don't have the ammo counter on the game hud you can still see how much fuel you have in the radial menu.
I tested this myself and did short bursts on nightmare and hard each burst is not the same, sometimes it consumes less sometimes more its not consistent, both on hard and nightmare had same results so there is really no difference whatsoever.

If i remember any usefull information i will add it in the future.
Hope my tips will help you, i like this game on nightmare my personal opinion its the best difficulty for this game.

Update 06.07.2017
The maintenance Jack is quite a unique item that I forgot about :D.
It can be used to kill humans from behind even the guards with helmets (requires a few swings depending on the difficulty), however, it will alert any nearby inhabitants even the alien, so before you go in for the kill make sure you have a place to retreat.
You can smack the wall with it if you want to make a temporary path clear.
And if any of them chase you crawl in a tight place (preferably a vent), they will stop chasing you.

About the crafting, try and resist the urge to put in crafting materials in the blueprint, if you don't use it then and there,
because once you put it in you can't take it back out.
For example i crafted a noisemaker and i was desperate for a medkit.
Craft whatever you need in that moment not what you think will help you some were later in the game.
Later in game you will have enough stuff to waste items away, im talking about early into game here. :)

Placing down molotovs if the alien is follwing you helps, so you don't need to stop all the time and deal with him.

i only used the molotov to get the achievement when you make the alien retreat using the molotov but thanks for the tips, now i know what to do with them

Thanks for the tips, that I already know :)
About the part with throwing Molotovs at the ground - you just weren't lucky.I tried this and it worked for me.
But,what about fuel consumption on Nightmare!?Because I greatly remember, from what I managed to complete on this difficulty, that the Alien is definitely tougher and fuel consumption is higher.Or maybe the last argument is just an illusion created by the first one!?

When the Alien is not close enough to grab you, just aim at him don't fire, just aim at him he will stop for how long I don't know but he will stare at you because he knows you want to fry his ass :D giving you a few seconds to think what you want to use, beware once you stopped aiming at him he will kill you.
Also, use molotovs and throw it at him, not at the ground, if you throw it on the ground which I did once thinking it will work, he just runs through it.

"You'll always waste only 50/60 fuel..."
"there's always a risk to waste more than you wanted"
I fucked up with this one, sorry)
But,for real,it's like 50/60.you fucked up =depends on how hard you panicked.

I tried this tactic to compare it with the one I'm using right now,and I discovered that the fuel usage is simply the same (mostly because the amount of fuel you need to scare the Alien is 50/60.But,as I said, not on Nightmare). The only difference is that with "small bursts" you waste more time to scare the Alien and, imo,it's even risky on the hardest difficulties, because It can violently charge at you between the bursts, with "click for 50" for first you need to always watch your ammo when firing, then get used to this tactic, know, when to stop and NEVER panic. It's a little hard to master but if you do,then Congrats! You'll always waste only 50/60 fuel on the Alien and will scare him away immediately, but I must admit : there's always a risk to waste more fuel than you wanted.Especially when you didn't really mastered it and just mindlessly "full blasted" your enemy.Like, really!?You think I'm such an idiot that when I face the Alien I'll mindlessly blast all of my fuel out!?
Lettuce Lizard  [author] Jul 26, 2017 @ 11:31am
Just do small bursts, with the flame thrower, you only waste fuel on full blast.
It takes 3-4 bursts to make the alien run away, full blast say good bye to fuel.

About the flamethrover fuel consumption.Even if I'm playing on Nightmare for the first time right now,but I'm sure in my memory, and on Hard difficulty, when I was using a "one click for 50" (a retained click that used 50/60 fuel.Needs some skill to get it everytime) metod to scare the Alien,on Nightmare it's a total of 80/90 fuel.
"Or maybe that's just me and I don't know how to play"!!!
