By EngiMen and 1 collaborators
This guide shows simply the best graphical settings in order to gain a PVP advantage. I will be covering each graphical/display setting and showing what it (exactly) does.

Please note that this guide is focused specifically on settings best for pvp. They will not make your game look the prettiest.

If this guide helped you, consider liking and favouriting, it really helps me out!

Before and After
Here is a quick before and after shot before we begin, as you can hopefully see it's much easier to identify the sniper.

AFTER

Hopefully you can see what difference this makes in PVP. The sniper is under a birch tree, top left.

If you don't have the time to read through this guide, just set the settings like THIS:

Please remember that the settings under "Options" are optional and they can be customized to your liking. This is just what I use.

Option Settings
  • Show FPS/Ping

Shows how much frames per second and ping you have. It's a nice addon that doesn't take up a lot of your screen, so I'd recommend enabling it.

  • Play Menu/Death music

Plays music when you are in the menu / when you die. As you can still hear game sounds when you die, I'd recommend keeping this off.

  • Arena Timer Warning
Shows a warning timer in the Arena. I'd recommend keeping it on, as it can remind you that you don't have much time left.

  • Show Blood Splatters
Shows blood. I'd recommend keeping this on, because it can give valuable information about firefights.

  • Censor Text Profanity
Censors all those naughty, naughty words your mum doesn't want you to hear. I don't think I need to explain this.

  • Show Inbound Text Chat
Shows text chat. I'd recommend to keep this on, you can gain valuable information (sometimes)

  • Enable Inbound Voice Chat
Enables you to listen to people talking. I'd recommend enabling it, it can also give you valuable information.

  • Enable Outbound Voice Chat
Enables you to talk to people. It can help you make teammates/friends, so I'd recommend keeping it on.

  • Show Hints
Shows basic hints on what to do. For beginners, this might be very useful, but however for experienced players, these just take up precious space on your screen. If you are experienced, I'd recommend disabling it.

  • Play Day/Night Ambience
Plays ambient music. I'd recommend disabling this feature, since it can distract you.

  • Streamer Mode
This feature is used by streamers to stop random people finding out what server they are in and stream sniping them. This feature changes all player names in the server you are on (only you can see it)

  • Field of View
Shows how much stuff you see on your screen. I'd recommend setting it to 100%.

  • Volume
Allows you to adjust your volume. I'd recommend setting it to 100% so you can hear all the little details.

  • Inbound Voice Gain
Allows you to adjust how loud you can hear that kid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ your mum. I'd recommend setting this to about 100% (don't drag the slider to the end, tho!) to prevent getting permanent ear damage.

  • NPC Text Animation
Allows you to adjust how NPC's talk. This really doesn't matter, but I'd recommend setting this to "instant talking" to speed everything up.

  • Measurement System
Allows attachments such as the Rangefinder to use both the imperial and metric system. Use whatever you prefer, I personally use metric.

  • Interface Skin
Allows you to make your game interface black or white, I'd recommend to set this to black, as it gives a nice contrast against the environment.

  • Hitmarker Locking
Allows you to make your hitmarkers (those little things that pop up when you shoot someone) move (dynamic) or stand in place (static). To reduce clutter, I'd recommend using static hitmarkers.

  • Crosshair Color
Allows you to customize your crosshair color. I'd recommend setting it to a vibrant, neon color such as bright purple. I'd recommend using 255/0/255.

  • Hitmarker Color
Allows you to customize your hitmarker colour. To make this different from the crosshair, I'd recommend using another vibrant color.

  • Critical Hitmarker Color
Allows you to customize your critical hitmarker color (when you shoot someone in the head). I'd recommend keeping this red (255/0/0)

  • Cursor Color, Interface Background Color, Interface Foreground Color and Font Color.
To make things simple, I'd recommend keeping all these white (229/229/229).
Display settings
  • Fullscreen

If your computer can handle it, I recommend you keep this setting on. It makes the game cover your entire screen, allowing you to see your enemies better.

  • VSync

Keep this setting off. VSync tries to make your computer generate a frame every time your monitor updates itself, but it often leads to some problems. I am not going to explain VSync in full detail here, but I'll leave a video which goes into a little more detail about what VSync does.

  • Resolution

This is the part that has no 100% clear answer. Resolution depends highly on your computer performance, but I recommend to keep it within a 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio and 60 or 144 Hz, since that leaves you with a smooth properly scaled display. The most common resolution you should use is probably 1920x1080 60hz. However, if you have a 2k or 4k monitor, you can make your resolution bigger in order to see more details. I'll leave a link below to a list of 16:9 resolutions, but use the ones that are marked green.

Graphics settings
Now, this is where the real fun begins. There are a lot of settings to go through, so buckle up and let's get started.

  • Nearby Draw Distance
Keep at 100% for optimal viewing experience.

  • Landmarks
Replaces all buildings/trees/big details with low-quality models at long distance. I recommend to keep this setting off, because you don't need to see trees and buildings from afar.

  • Landmark Draw Distance
There is no need to explain this, because we have it turned off.

  • Bloom
Makes everything glow and (in my opinion) harder to see enemies near glowing objects. I'd recommend disabling it.

  • Chromatic Abberation
Makes everything go blurry in the corners and sides of your screen. I recommend disabling it in order to get a clean viewing experience.

  • Film Grain
Adds extra grain to the image, which may make it harder to see enemies/objects, especially at distance. I'd recommend disabling it.

  • Clouds
Well, adds clouds to the map. I'd recommend disabling it for better performance.

  • Terrain Transition
Again, this can be set to your preference but I'd recommend setting it off, since it can help you identify camoed snipers when they are between two terrains (for example, a camoed sniper is close to the beach, but still in the forest)

  • Height Fog
Isn't very noticeable, but for optimal viewing and sniping experience I'd recommend turning it off.

  • Grass Displacement
Doesn't matter, since we will be disabling grass later but I'd recommend turning it off for now.

  • Scope Focus Foliage
Doesn't matter just like Grass Displacement, so I'd recommend turning it off.

  • Ragdolls
Enabling It can give you a huge advantage in PVP to see who has died (especially if a server doesn't have kill feeds).

  • Debris
This is really important in base raiding situations. this setting removes destroyed trees falling over and most importantly salvaged or blown up base walls from staying there for about 10 seconds and sometimes blocking your view from enemies.

  • Blast Marks
Shows where an explosion has taken place. May make a little hard to see enemies, but I'd recommend keeping it on in order to identify the location of an explosion.

  • Rain Puddles
Makes unnecessary reflections and distracts you from viewing your enemies. I'd recommend turning it off.

  • Snow Glitter
Does same thing as rain puddles, only with snow. I'd recommend keeping it off.

  • Triplanar Mapping
I'd recommend keeping it on, it makes the texture look more bland and therefore makes it easier to see enemies.

  • Skybox Reflection
Makes things like puddles and water reflect the sun and clouds. In my opinion, it doesn't really affect your PVP performance but for optimal performance, I'd recommend keeping it off.

  • Anti-Aliasing
Makes edges of buildings look sharper from a longer distance. Would recommend keeping it on TAA since that works the best for me.

  • Anisotropic Filtering
Makes texture quality look a bit better, however if you have a bad computer you can turn it off, but if you have a good PC that can run it then I'd recommend setting it to Forced On.

  • Effect Duration
Makes effects last longer, therefore allowing you to identify traces of combat. If your PC can handle it, I'd recommend setting it to Ultra. *however, you can scale it down if your PC can't handle it.*

  • Grass Density
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!!! Always, ALWAYS keep this setting OFF in PVP situations! It allows you to disable grass entirely, making spotting snipers 1000000000 times easier! KEEP IT OFF!

  • Sun Shafts Quality
Makes the sun bloom a little. I'd recommend keeping it off, since it may make a little easier to identify skybases.

  • Lightning Quality
Makes shadows more detailed. For optimal spotting of enemies, I'd recommend keeping it off.

  • Ambient Occlusion Quality
I haven't found this setting make much of a difference in PVP, but I'd still recommend turning it off.

  • Reflection Quality
Doesn't make much of a difference, just shows better reflections. I'd recommend keeping it off to get a nice matt surface behind your enemies.

  • Water Quality
If you can, I'd recommend keeping this on ultra to make spotting enemies in water a lot easier. If ultra uses up too many resources, high is okay too, but in my opinion medium and low have very little difference.

  • Scope Quality
Very important for snipers. I'd recommend keeping it on ultra, it REALLY helps to identify and shoot enemies.
  • Outline Quality
Makes outlines of things look nicer. I'd recommend keeping it on ultra for best results, but it doesn't matter a lot.

  • Animation Quality
This setting doesn't really matter, so keep it on whatever you like.

  • Terrain Quality
Makes terrains look blander. To spot enemies more easily, I'd recommend keeping it on low.

  • Wind Quality
Makes leaves move. To reduce distractions, I'd recommend turning this off.

  • Tree Quality
This is another VERY IMPORTANT option. It can make or break your fight. KEEP THIS SETTING ON Old Trees (Legacy). It makes the tree hitboxes much, much smaller and helps you to see your enemies more easily.

  • old trees

  • new trees

  • Render Mode
Doesn't make too much of a difference. The new render mode sometimes adds clutter where it isn't needed, so I'd recommend keeping it on the Old (Legacy) version.
Conclusion
Well, this has been my first guide. I was inspired to make this since this can really give an advantage in PVP and make you the king of the server. I hope you found it interesting, comment for feedback and give ideas for more guides I should do.

Also special thanks to my friend Haputis, who gave me the idea and some of the settings for this guide.
