How to make good hulls (Updated... Technically)
By Hawkins656
In case you can't tell this is very out of date and unfinished, please see Ironfudge's guide if you would like something to read and if you would like something more advanced check out my 3 part hull tutorial on youtube. Note that both of these were made before transitions, that doesn't matter however, transitions are still slope staggering, they just transition to make it smoother. If your confused I suggest you go through this material first then I think you will see how to apply transition blocks.

basic shape
The key to any good looking hull starts with an outline of what that shape should look like. This will consist of an outline of the top deck, water line, side view of center line, and a cross section in the aproxamate middle of the ship. The image on the right says most of what I am talking about, exept the bow below the water line and the fact that the stern isn't entirely outlined. Hopefully you'll be able to fully understand in the future sections if you do not already.
bows above water line
Start in the front by the very front of the bow which you have outlined, then begin building up from the water line to the the deck outline vertically. If you were to look at this process head on, you'd build up starting with the innermost blocks and then move out another and repeat the process. Bows come in many diffrent shapes and sizes, so you will have to figure out what the shapes of these pillars are youself. Finally, once all the pillars are finished, smoothen out the hull with 4 by 1 slopes pointed longways.

You can see the pilliars I am refering to in the right side of the first photo.
Bows below water line
This is the easiest section, just bring down the angled bolocks at the water line to a little above the bottom of the ship (1-3 meters depending on how big your ship is). then just used 1/6th and 5/6th blocks to make it meet. for all the parts that arent angled, fill with half blocks or regular blocks in the apropriate places.

Thanks! very useful. I don't have many own ships, just replicas. This will help me built my hulls more confidentally.

you guys realize this is outdated right, you can find the significantly more complete hull slope staggering tutorial on the United Builders youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wSYDW4d3-k&t=2s (part three is posted earlier in case your wondering) last I checked they are politically correct so as to not offend any meta brick builders
